5 AC Milan players in Italy National team against Malta, 26 March 2013

It's a special day for AC Milan seeing Italy Head Coach Cesare Prandelli selecting 5 Milan players for the game against Malta on Tuesday 26 March  in Malta.   Prandelli choosing Juventus with 6 players and AC Milan with 5 players as the main block in this 2014 World Cup qualifying game. The history of other Rossoneri contingents for Italy and the other occasions when two teams made up the entire Starting XI.

The 5 AC Milan players will start for Italy against Malta in the World Cup qualifier are : Ignazio Abate, Mattia De Sciglio, Riccardo Montolivo, Stephan El Shaarawy and Mario Balotelli. Five AC Milan players for the Azzurri are definitely a lot and you bet the fans are rejoicing to see their rossoneri rocking big time as pillars of the Italian National team.

Here are other records having AC Milan players in the Italian National team lineup:

1962 – World Cup – 7 (Radice, C.Maldini, Trapattoni, Altafini, Rivera, Salvadore, David)

1968 – European Championships – 5 (Anquilletti, Rivera, Prati, Llodetti, Rosato)

1994 – World Cup – 7 (Tassotti, Costacurta, Baresi, Maldini, Albertini, Donadoni, Massaro)

2006 – World Cup – 5 (Nesta, Pirlo, Gattuso, Inzaghi, Gilardino)

This evening the other six players for Italy hail from Juventus. The only other match when the line-up for the Azzurri was provided by just two teams was January 26th, 1977. In the second half between Italy and Belgium there were six Torino players (Castellini, Mozzini, Zaccarelli, Pecci, Claudio Sala and Graziani) and five from Juventus (Cuccureddu, Scirea, Tardelli, Benetti e Causio).
