Serie A Week 18, Matchday 18

Here are the declarations from AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri during the press conference on Saturday December 10, 2011 on the eve of the Serie A Week 15 match, Bologna v AC Milan.  The match to be played on Sunday December 11 at the Renato Dall'Ara Stadium.

"Tomorrow will be a completely different game to last season’s match against Bologna. We know it’ll be a tough game because they’re going through a good period. They played well on Thursday even though they were knocked out of the cup after 120 minutes of football in Turin. Last Sunday, they beat Siena. It’ll be anything but easy for us. So we’ll have to play a careful game and be patient, play a technical good game and get the three points, which is what counts.”

“The mistakes we made on Tuesday can’t be made again. The game was finished, we had a lot of chances to make it three or even four and then with three minutes to go, we opened up the game and ended up drawing. Tomorrow we’ll have to try and not complicate our lives like we did. I was angry with everyone including myself, because I’m a part of this team as well and maybe I was unable to transmit to the players what was needed. What happened in Prague was unthinkable. We were 2-0 up and we should have closed the game and held on to possession. We made a few too many mistakes in the last 5 minutes and it0s something that needs improving.”

“I’m calm because the team is in good shape and I’m convinces they’ll play a good game. We’ll need to be mentally prepared more than anything. The bare minimum won’t get us through this game. We have 10 days to go before the Christmas break. That’s three important games, a mini tournament and we have to get all points possible to get to the top of the table. We have to look for the win. Then, if the others keep on winning as well, we’ll stay behind them, if they don’t we’ll catch up. “

The line-up: Amelia, Abate, Thiago Silva, Yepes, Antonini (even if he a sore back), Van Bommel, Aquilani, Seedorf, Boateng, Pato and Ibrahimovic.

"Juventus will fight to the very end. What I’m hoping is that we’ll be able to leapfrog them and then stay there until the end of the season. But it won’t be easy because besides Juventus, there’s Udinese, Lazio and Napoli will get back into the title race as well. We’ll have to ready to play to the very end of the league. Last year, we won with three games left but this year I’ll be happy if we win it with only one game left.

Milan have two market experts in Galliani and Braida, they know how things work and what to do. The club has very clear ideas about what needs to be done. I’ll evaluate with the club who’ll be coming in January if anyone because for the moment, we’re fine as we are. If Tevez comes, he’ll be another piece of an already world class attack. His arrival would probably give us the best the best forward line in the world. The players are all professionals as well and of course at Milan, it’s easier to manage these ‘hot heads’ as you call them. Personally, I think everyone has their own personality and character and how you have to manage them is based on that.”

“Pato has to grow. He hasn’t played much in the last year and a half due to injuries and he’s getting back in shape. He has extraordinary qualities and of course he needs to keep improving like all the young players at Milan”

I’m not worried even though the two matches you play in the last 16 are very different to the group stage games. The important thing is be ready physically, to be in good shape with not too many injuries when you get to that stage. This team has grown a lot in terms of self confidence since last year.”

“Real Madrid and Barcelona are the favorites. They’re one, or even two steps above the rest. Bayern has a solid team with excellent players and a lot of the teams in the last 16 have all the right cards to get further in the tournament. “

“In Italy we’re always trying to knock ourselves down. Three Italian teams are through to the next round in the Champions League proving that Italian football isn’t as bad as some might say.”

“We have to win the next three games and then we’ll go to Dubai. We’ll have a week of training there and then back to work in the league knowing that January and February are important months for the end result.”
