Hello my friends, many surprises this week.   Here is the 2011 - 2012  Italy Serie A Roundup Week 8 valid for Matchday 8  on  Saturday October 22 and Sunday October 23,  2011. The task this week is to deliver as many goals as possible considering last week 5 games ended with a 0-0 result.  It's a good week for our Serie A teams Inter, AC Milan and Napoli having good results in the Champions League.  Now, it's the challenge for Napoli and Inter  to recover lost points in the Serie A.  AC Milan won their game last week against Palermo.    Inter went down to the 17th position with only 4 points and risk going to relegation zone if losing this week against Chievo which  hello, hello, hello, will be a major blow.  Better note with AC Milan defeating Palermo with a 3-0 in San Siro and helping them jump from the 15th position to the 11th position  The leadership this week is for Juventus and Udinese having both 12 points each. Here is the thing. Six teams can jump to the leadership considering the short gap:  Cagliari (11), Lazio (11, Napoli (10), and Palermo (10).  On the other hand, Lazio and Udinse playing the Europa League Group Stage on Thursday.

Challenge for survival this week is for Cesena having only 2 points and a negative goal difference of -5.  We might see a sacking this week depending on results from the "shaky standings."

Top scorers remain Parma forward Sebastian Giovinco and Genoa forward Rodrigo Palacio with 5 goals each.

It's the rollercoaster game for Fiorentina coach Sinisa Mihajlovic facing his ex team.  Mihajlovic coaching Catania from December 8 2009 while renouncing on May 24 2010 to later join Fiorentina as coach.  Another ex is midfielder Juan Manuel Vargas  making 69 appearances and scoring 5 goals  for Catania from August 2006 to July 5 2008 when he signed for Fiorentina.

Mihajlovic having to call the attention of Vargas lately for lack of discipline.  However, Fiorentina losing big time without main forward Alberto Giladino still ruled out for injury maybe for another month.  So, it's up to forward Stevan Jovetic to rock the boat.

Fiorentina are now in the 10th position with 8 points and a positive goal difference of +2 while Catania are in the 8th position with 9 points and a negative goal difference of -1.

Stats in favor of Fiorentina as Catania have not been able to win in Florence yet.  Really/?  Yep!  Out of the 14 games in Serie A, no victories. Last time Catania grabbed a ad draw was in 1971.  Will Catania finally win in Florence:? Juventus are current leaders with 12 points having a positive goal difference of +6 while Genoa are in the 11th position with 8 points and a goal difference of +1.

It's the week for Juventus to keep flying  in the top.   So many things going on in casa Juve, guys.  Bad news for Juventus as goalkeeper Gigi Buffon injuring on Thursday during training with a contusion, a left shoulder injury confirmed by Juventus official website. Though, good news with the recovery from Vidal starting training too.   Buffon might miss the match with Genoa.

You bet Juventus would want to win this game and hopefully see beloved Juventus captain Alessandro Del Piero and scoring.  Juventus fans upset with the comment -- arguably in a bad way - from president Agnelli saying that this was the last year from Del Piero while Del Piero keeping silence during next day declarations...

Advantage for Genoa having top scorer forward Rodrigo Palacio  with 5 goals looking to increase his record while for Juventus top scorer is midfielder Claudio Marchisio with 3 goals.

It's a game for survival for both teams in different aspects. Lecce in the rocking relegation area while AC Milan the defending champions 4 points away the current leaders Juventus and Udinese.  Lecce are in the 19th position with 4 points and a negative goal difference of -6 while AC Milan are in the 13th position with 8 points and an even goal difference "0".

Milan with the added boost recovering lost points as last week defeating Palermo with 3-0 in San Siro and on Wednesday defeating FC Bate Borisov in the Champions League Group Stage game in San Siro with goals by Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Kevin Prince Boateng. 

It will be a special moment for Ibrahimovic too as he was presented as new rossonero player during a game against Lecce on August 29 ,2010,though, in San Siro.

Top scorer for Lecce is, well, hello, Lecce scoring only 3 goals while conceding 9!  Top scorer for AC Milan is forward Antonio Cassano with 2.  Milan scoring 8 goals while conceding 8.

On Paper, AC Milan might be the favorites.  However, Milan usually struggles in away games against "so called small teams."  Will the hunger for survival be enough to defeat the hunger of AC Milan?

Problems for Milan still with an injured midfield without Gennaro Gattuso, Massimo Ambrosini, Mathieu Flamini.  Yet, responding well so far are midfielder Kevin Prince Boateng, Alberto Aquilani, and Antonio Nocerino.  As for the attack, Allegri still waiting for forward Alexandre Pato.

Disadvantage for Lecce not having forward David Di Michele considering Lecce have scored so far only 3 goals.

Here is a tricky game.  Roma hurt in their pride after losing the Derby della Capitale in the 93rd minute by a "dramatic goal from Miroslav Klose."  Palermo also suffered a defeat in San Siro against AC Milan.  So, simply put, we are here for a "boost moment" from both teams to revamp their points.  Palermo might repeat the miracle again.  Last season not only Palermo defeated Roma at the Barbera, Palermo 3 - 1 AS Roma. but also on April 16, 2011 for Week 33 Palermo defeating AS Roma at the Olimpico, Roma 2 - 3 Palermo.  Scoring for Roma Francesco Totti and Mirko Vucinic and they won't play in this game.  Totti injured and Vucinic transferred to Juventus. However, for Palermo scoring were Mauricio Pinilla and two goals by Abel Hernandez. 

Here is the thing, up to Week 7,  Palermo are in better shape.  Palermo in the 6th position with 10 points and an even goal difference "0"  AS Roma are in the 12th position with 8 points and a positive goal difference of +1.  The gap not big considering Juventus and Udinese have 12 points leading the table.  A victory for Palermo might mean reaching among the top 3 teams.

Sentence is given by Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini as he told coach Devis Mangia that "he wants to see the true Palermo against Roma."  BAM!  Question is which Palermo is he talking about???  the shadow remaining after he sold the best players he had that took Palermo to qualify for Europa League?  Which true Palermo?  The one barely rebuilding whenever Miccoli is fit to push the bandwagon?  Is it the problem of the coach for not seeing "a true Palermo,"?  Oh well... let's move on....

It's Cagliari time to rock the boat.  Yep.  Cagliari are in the third position with 11 points and a positive goal difference of +3.  Cagliari are just 1 point behind Juventus and Udinese leading the table with 12 points.  Napoli  who "once were leading the table," now are in the 5th position with 10 points and a positive goal difference of _+5 goals.  Here is the thing.  Cagliari can take the first position if there is a draw with Juventus - Genoa and Udinese - Novara.   It might happen as Juventus are having problems with goalkeeper Buffon injured.  However, let's not ruled out a victory from Napoli.  A victory can put Napoli in the lead again too....

Now, here is the thing.  Will Udinese be ready to keep flying high or will Novara put a brake to their race?  Novara are in the 16th position with 5 points and a negative goal difference of -2.  For Novara a victory is a must.  On paper, favorites are Udinese to win the game. 

Top scorer for Udinese is forward Antonio Di Natale with 4 goals while for Novara is Rigoni with 3 goals.

Help me say it... oh my gosh.. really?  What: was going?  An upside down table?  Tough to accept but Inter having their worst season up to Week 7 being in the 17th position with only 4 points and a negative goal difference of  - 4 while Chievo Verona are in the 9th position with 9 points and a positive goal difference of +1.  In case you think I am kidding. Nope.  These are the plain numbers.  It's either a wake up call for Inter to win this game or fall in relegation zone. 

Inter lost last week against Catania sending them in despair.  However, a boost this week with Inter winning their UEFA Champions League Group Stage game against Lillie in France. Yep, a total opposite result and you bet Inter would like to continue with the winning road again.  For Inter it will be a good way to celebrate coach Claudio Ranieri's birthday with a victory.

Cesena in deep trouble being in the last position of the Serie A with only 2 points and a negative  goal difference of -5 while  AC Siena are in the 14th position with 6 points.  Bad news for Cesena is the absence from Adira Mutu from suspension.   Cesena have scored only 2 goals this season while conceding 7.

Bologna in deep trouble.  A victory is a must at home or risk going down again in the last position.  Bologna are in the 18th position with only 4 points and a negative goal difference of -6.  Get this one, Bologna scoring only 4 goals so far while conceding 10.  OUCH.   Lazio on the other hand, are partially satisfied after the away 1-1 draw in Europa League in Switzerland against FC Zurich.  Lazio are in the 4th position with 11 points and a positive goal difference of +2. 

For Bologna, forward  Robert Acquafresca optimistic and feeling ready to give his best against Lazio.   Lazio coach Edy Reja will rely on the duo Cisee-Klose to smack this away victory and hope for Juventus, Udinese and Cagliari to lose or draw their games and take the lead.
