Italy head coach Cesare Prandelli facing last minute injuries with the players as confirmed by the doctor of the Italian National team Doctor Enrico Castellacci:

-  Inter Milan striker Giampaolo Pazzini, who came off the bench to score the winner against Slovenia in last month's qualifier, is ruled out for the match against Serbia with a foot problem.  He might be ready for the match against Northern Ireland in Pescara

-  As for defense,  Zenit St. Petersburg defender Domenico Criscito and Palermo defender Federico Balzaretti are both ruled out of the trip to Belgrade through back injuries.

During the press conference on Tuesday October 4 at the technical Center of Coverciano, Buffon said, "It's true that in terms of the standings, this game might mean little or nothing for us, but we want to keep our growing process.  We want to keep our unbeaten run. Against Serbia we have to show the same character and determination that we have showed in our previous matches."

Here is the thing, is not that the game is not important for Italy, but the ones who should be worrying are Serbia.  For Serbia a victory will secure their qualification.  For Italy, a victory will reaffirm the good process from Prandelli towards the new Italy and upcoming World Cup too.

Manchester City forward Mario Balotelli could be handed a start against Serbia.

"In the last game that we played against Slovenia, Mario showed a great willingness to emerge and show his potential," Buffon said.

This is a good sign. In any case we also have other strikers like Giuseppe Rossi, Antonio Cassano, that have done well and can also make a difference."

Buffon also talked about his teammates in Juventus and also playing with the Azzurri Giorgio Chiellini and Andrea Barzagli.   "I feel secured with them and italy's defense  has improved.  the only goal conceded in the last game is the best tetimony.  In total Prandelli called up six Juventus players.

Gigi Buffon also commenting on the latest victory in Serie A against AC Milan on Sunday October 3.  Juventus 2 - 0 AC Milan

“I’m happy with how things are going.  We played brilliantly against the Rossoneri, I particularly liked the spirit shown to clinch the victory and how much we wanted it. But we only took three points on Sunday night. If we don’t face every game in the same manner we’ll go back to being a ‘normal’ side, without managing to make the step up in quality. We must show the same drive as we did against Milan for the whole year.”

Buffon  commented on Marchisio: “The aftermath of the games against Bologna and Catania confirmed to me that people have extremely short memories and that Italians change their ideas in the space of just a few hours without assessing anything. Because he is such a team player, Giorgio takes on the most difficult and arduous tasks. Sometimes just one negative moment is enough to cloud a good performance over 90 minutes. They always look for Giorgio’s faults and don’t credit the others. Claudio didn’t just play well against Milan, he’s been playing to a high standard from the start of the season.”

And finally, the supporters who inspired the Bianconeri to victory. The new Juventus Stadium has allowed the players to feel the encouragement from the stands at close proximity: “Playing at home changes things,” concluded Buffon. “The public’s support can be truly felt. The fans gave us renewed energy when we were tired. Their enthusiasm is currently a real boost for us.”
