Good morning my friends.  Strike is over and after Week 1 was postponed we are starting the 2011 - 2012 Serie A season with Week 2.   Defending champion is AC Milan winner of the 2010 -2011 Scudetto.  This season we are starting with 12 new coaches and a mixed salad of transferred players, new players...  So, we are in for an interesting ride with debuts.  We are starting the games early on Friday  with one game AC Milan - Lazio because UEFA Champions League engagements participating AC Milan, Napoli, and Inter.

 I will post the PREVIEW every Thursday and you can post your predictions.  At the end of the season there could be only "ONE winner." with a $100 (100 dollars prize).  In case of more than one with same amount of predictions, winner will be selected based on  frequency of winning, weeks participating, and we will determine together the additional regulations to have just ONE WINNER like in Serie A where only 1 team win the Scudetto.

The only team starting with negative numbers is Atalanta having -6 points after the Scomesse scandal and Captain  Cristiano Doni suspended for 3 years and 6 months.   The other 19 teams start with equal "0" point.

Milan and Lazio will play the first game of the 2011 - 2012 season on Friday.  It's the turn for  AC Milan winners of the 2010 - 2011 Scudetto to defend their championship. On paper, Milan are the favorites and the team to beat this season.  Milan engaged in Champions League against FC Barcelona on Tuesday September 13 and Lazio with Europa League against FC Vaslui on September 15.  It's a challenge for Milan and Lazio to start the season with a victory.  Milan are the defending champions but facing  injured players with Mathieu Flamini and Philippe Mexes out

Here is the thing. We have two top shots forwards looking to make an impact.  For AC Milan the hope is the talisman "Mr. Scudetto" Zlatan Ibrahimovic.  For Lazio, it is new forward Miroslav Klose to lead i biancolesti.   Challenge is for coaches to keep a competitive team after this game to face.



Ibrahimovic started last season with his first goal against Lazio at the Olimpico.  Will he  start  this season with a goal too?   Will it be Miroslav Klose to silence San Siro.  Lazio  without goalkeeper Fernando Muslera after his transfer to Galatasaray. Here is the thing that  first goalkeeper Federico Marchetti replacing Muslera will not play because he has a one match suspension.  So, taking his place is goalkeeper Bizzarri.  Instead in Milan, goalkeeper Christian Abbiati is fit as a fiddle.

Reja will also be without Romanian defender Stefan Radu, who has a swollen right knee, and also goalkeeper Marchetti, who still has a one match suspension to see out. Bizzarri will take his place.

Palermo and Inter are starting with new coaches.  Palermo coach Mangia making his debut after the sacking before the start of the season from Stefano Pioli.  Inter coach Gian Piero Gasperini replacing Leonardo.  The big question is whether these coaches survived the entire season.    Inter  will play next week on Wednesday September 14 the Champions League game against Trabzonspor. definitely for the neriazzurri a victory is a must... Though, the match at the Renzo Barbara with Palermo is not easy.  On paper, Inter are favorites to win it.. Will Palermo stand up?

For the moment a blow for Inter with midfielder Thiago Motta out for injury.  Motta pulling a hamstring in his left thigh during the UEFA Euro 2012 qualification game Italy - Slovenia. 

I might say expectation is  high to see how "inter  attack" will work after the transfer from Samuel Eto'o.  Filling the empty space is ex Atletico Madrid forward Diego Forlan and latest "in extremis" transfer from ex Lazio forward Mauro Zarate.  "An all Argentinian leading attack" considering Diego Milito too.




As for Palermo. Here is not much about the team, but on President Maurizio Zaamparini.     Palermo who made it to the Europa League playoffs are eliminated.  Making matters worst, the top jewels are now gone. I might highlight the transfer from midfielder Javier Pastore to PSG as the main handicapped.  Pastore was the key man last season.  Ooopps.. let's not forget goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu also gone.... yep.. Sirigu transferred to PSG.  The challenge will be for new Palermo goalkeeper Tzorvas to immediately show his potential. 

In the attack, Palermo will rely on the usual savior Fabrizzio Miccoli.   Palermo lost also midfielder Antonio Nocerino transferring to AC Milan.. and the list goes on and on..  Bottom line, Palermo again rebuilding with younger players. It's like taking steps back and now the challenge to see if they will repeat positive results from last season.  Will Palermo qualify for Europa League again?

Not a good start for Atalanta.  A bad scenario after the verdict from the Italian football federation disciplinary committee gave a six-point penalty for its role in the latest Italian match-fixing scandal.  Making matters worst Atalanta captain Cristiano Doni banned for three years and a half.  

Good news is for Genoa keeping forward Rodrigo Palacio after all the "rumors' for his transfer to Inter.
