I agree with Italy head coach Cesare Prandelli that  although almost everybody take for granted that Italy will defeat Faroe Islands, this game should  not be taken lightly, period.  On the contrary, Italy must play with Faroe islands  with the same mentality as if playing a bigger team to display quality Italian football.

It is true that Italy are almost qualified  to the next round leading Group C with 16 points compared to Faroe with 4 points and 11 from Slovenia. Point is that we still have not seen a consistent "Italy."  Prandelli  keep testing and by now we should have a better idea on who is the first team and what  module to play.

Here are some of the comments made by Italy Head Coach Cesare Prandelli  during the press conference on Monday August 29,  2011

On the Serie A Strike with the cancellation of first matchday
.

"The strike has been an own goal from everybody.  I hoped until the last moment that we could play since there were still days to discuss due to the national team games.  Personally, I remained on 8th December when there was the agreement announcement, then, I don't know what has changed in these months.  Maybe more good will was needed from the players to play anyway despite not having the agreement.  It would have been a gesture much needed today.  twenty days ago, before the match with Spain, precisely here in Coverciano  we had talked about common sense.  There are moments when you can negotiate and moments when you must respect.  Logic would be that of playing and than keep negotiations."

About a possible strike extension in the second matchday, Prandelli rather want to avid  it and call everybody for a sense of responsibility.  "It won't be easy.  According to me, as Abete and Petruucci said, there are presidents who  have the will and capacity to resolve this situation.   I hope an agreement can be reached, to extend this situation is not good for anybody."

Italy head Coach Cesare Prandelli

On the 2 EURO 2-12 Qualification Games

"It's better to think in the next two games of the  national team because they worth a season, and even to give a different image to this football.  I thought to find players  with more training, with one official game.  However, this is not a problem because we know the importance of these games.  As a coach, I don't feel as the savior of the country, my though is only that of qualifying as soon as possible and have a competitive team.  The idea is to give continuity to the module used in the last games with four midfielders and two forwards.  However, in these days we will also prepare something different.   this is why i have recalled Gilardino  and  why we will work  on  having modification during the game.

"Historically, September is a difficult month for Italian football, we have to improve the physical condition.  I have the feeling that one become more fans of the Azzurri only during the European competition or international and that during the season each one think on their own interests.

On the match with  Faroe Islands:

"Everybody takes for granted the victory , but in reality the result  will depend on how we play the match.  I repeat, that the lack of football playing worries me.  It is  right to admit that  if we had to play with team like France or other big we would  would have been even more worried.   The fact to be closer to the qualification must serve as an ulterior  stimulus.  It would be foolish  to arrive unprepared to the game."

On Fiorentina shareholder Diego Della Valle

Regarding the comments made by Fiorentina shareholder Diego Della Valle  on Friday, alluding to  Prandelli,  that  he had one person who disappointed him profoundly.  Prandelli commented, "Lately, Doctor Della Valle is giving interesting  proposals including the peace table.  Perhaps he could even invite me to that table, so we can  hug and end this story."
