BACKGROUND
The Supercoppa Itaiana established in 1988. The Supercoppa Italiana is played in the Summer before the official start of the Serie A. Game is played between the Winner of the Scudetto and the Coppa Italia. Here is the thing, an exception. In case of one team winning both the Scudetto and the Coppa Italia as in the case of Inter last in 201, then, the Supercoppa Italiana is played between Winner of the Scudetto and the runner up of the Coppa Italia.
AC Milan and Inter are the teams with most Supercoppa Italiana trophies. AC Milan and Inter have won it 5 times each. This is why this 2011 Supercoppa Italiana has a special meaning not only to break the draw, but also it's a Milan Derby between the two Milan teams. Curiously, the Milan Derby this time is played in Beijing, China which is a feast for Chinese fans.
First Supercoppa Italiana won by AC Milan in 1988 against Sampdoria in 1988 at San Siro Stadium. Result AC Milan 3 - 1 Sampdoria. Scoring for AC Milan Frank Rijkaard, Marco van Basten, and Grazziano Mannari. Scoring for Sampdoria Gianluca Vialli
Last season winner in 2010 were Inter Milan defeating AS Roma. with a score 3-1. Scoring for Inter Goran Pandev and a brace by Samuel Eto'o while scoring for AS Roma was John Arne Riise.
COACHES:
AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri playing his first Italian Super cup, as well as Inter coach Gian Piero Gasperini.
AC Milan coach in his second season with AC Milan ratified by the management.

Italian Super Cup PREVIEW in Beijing with both teams having 3 representative players ... . over dinner... read about it....
Wednesday August 3, 2011 - The first official contact between Inter and AC Milan in Beijing was made on Wednesday, when UVS - organisers of the 2011 Italian Super Cup in China - brought representatives of the two sides together for the evening.
Three players from each team faced off: Inter's three-man formation of Ivan Cordoba, Andrea Ranocchia, And Javier Zanetti versus AC Milan players Clarence Seedorf, Thiago Silva, and Gennaro Gattuso. In the respective "dugouts" were chief executives Paolillo and Adirano Galliani.
Beddy Moratti commented, "The location was stunning," explained Bedy the day after, "very Chinese with little lakes, running water, small bridges and lanterns. Red ones, of course – that's the tradition here," she smiled. "But they would have been just as beautiful in blue."
What she described as "the first half of the derby, played over dinner behind closed doors" featured the usual rituals of such occasions. "These meetings before a match are always pleasant, because the rivalry is only on the pitch, but they normally happen abroad before European games. This time it was also abroad but for the derby," Bedy Moratti continued. "It's exciting to be representing Milan and its football here. When the players arrived they greeted each other with sincere affection – it was a wonderful picture of true sportsmanship. This pre-season derby in China is very important for us, and seeing the fans so happy is marvellous and touching. I hope the Nerazzurri fans will be just as happy and excited after Saturday."
Gifts were exchanged between the Lega Calcio and Chinese organisers UVS, with handshakes all round up on stage. The Rossoneri turned up in their playing kit – they were clearly taking this "first half" very seriously – while the Nerazzurri were dressed in elegant Versace attire: "spectacularly beautiful" in Bedy Moratti's words.| Current Serie A Clubs in winning the Supercoppa Italiana AC MILAN: 5 Winners (1988, 1992, 1993, 1994, 2004) and 3 Runners-up (1996, 1999, 2003) FC INTERNAZIONALE: 5 Winners (1989, 2005, 2008, 2010) and 3 Runners-up (2000, 2007, 2009) |
