It's Monday March 21 the first day training of the Italian National Team  for the EURO 2012 qualifying match Slovenia vs Italy to be played on Friday March 25.  In the press conference, Italy Head Coach Cesare Prandelli responding to  questions about the called up players, plan for the Italian team, and the Italian icons not called up.  Prandelli in party celebration mood for the 150 years of the Unity of Italy.

I am glad to  see that Prandelli recognizes the current good goal average from Udinese forward Antonio Di Natale --- who happens to be the Top Scorer of the Serie A with 25 goals, plus the revival condition from the legendary icons AS Roma forward Francesco Totti and Juventus forward  Alessandro Del Piero.

When Prandelli was asked about his technical decisions including  called up players and the absence from  forward Mario Balotelli, AS Roma midfielder  Daniele De Rossi, and AS Roma forward Marco Borriello, Prandelli commented:

On AS Roma forward Marco  Borriello,  "It was a technical decision.  I talked to Balotelli and he is the first one to be disappointed for what he has done.  He has asked me for help.  He is aware that  he made a stupidity and asked me on what  to do  so he won't ruined everything.  We have Balotelli in consideration."

On AS Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi: "I have not talked to him. I read his last declarations and  I am pleased."   Prandelli said that their exclusion is valid only for 1 game,  and that  evaluation will be made for the friendly game against Ukraine." Prandelli referring to the suspension from  De Rossi and  Borriello with their clubs and this is why he sends the message that   the ethic code must be considered, "otherwise we won't be credible. "
On AC Milan forward Antonio Cassano, Prandelli said: "He made a good second half with Bari.  He is ok physically, I am not worried  he is on the bench with Milan.  Everybody arrives here  with a different spirit."

About the match with Slovenia:  "Slovenia is a compacted team with optimum playing organization.  I fear their enthusiasm.  Its important, although it is not  the key game."

Prandelli also highlighting that int he last 3 Champions League  game there were only 5 players from the Italian national team."  This is why Prandelli  believes  in   observing the legendary players who  still have the will  to play with the Azzurri and that for the younger players  it should be a stimulus. I agree with Prandelli that to form the new Italy, thinking on the future, age should be considered too.

Here is the thing guys.  Problem is that  many of the younger players are not showing  consistent potential while the legends are showing consistency despite their  age ... in case many over 30.

- Alessandro Del Piero, 36 years old born on November 9, 1974
- Francesco Totti, 34 years old, born on September 27, 1974.

Bottom line, it's up to the younger players to work out and develop their potential to become the new icons.   Dont' you think guys?   We need to see Giovinco, Matri, Paloschi, Rossi, Balotelli,   and on.
