We have some interesting quotes this week from the world of Italian calcio. Riccardo Garrone discusses the latest "Cassanate," and Antonio Cassano and Beppe Marrota dispel the notion that it was staged to ease a transfer away from Sampdoria. Former Napoli legend, Diego Maradona, discusses his 50th birthday and coaching Leo Messi. Gigi Del Neri and Alex Del Piero discuss the win over Milan, and Alex drops a surprising hint. Riccardo Garrone, patron of Sampdoria, on the latest "Cassanate" by Antonio Cassano. Apparently, Antonio refused to make an appearance at a local awards ceremony which prompted his latest outburst. Both were quoted by La Gazzetta dello Sport.

"Che ad alta voce mi gridava "fanculo", affermazione percepita anche da una ventina di tifosi... Dei sonori 'vaffanculo', 'vecchio di merda', e 'bocchini' vari", davanti ad alcuni giocatori, "fra i quali Pazzini, Lucchini, Marilungo, Pozzi e Dessena."

"He raised his voice and shouted 'f*ck,' which about 20 supporters also heard... Also heard were 'go screw yourself,' 'old piece of sh*t', and various 'sons of b*tches' in front of some players, among them Pazzini, Lucchini, Marilungo, Pozzi and Dessena."

Antonio Cassano was contrite, affirmed his desire to stay but alluded to a marital situation:

"Sono dispiaciuto per quanto accaduto e peraltro ho già chiesto scusa al dottor Garrone, al quale voglio molto bene, in presenza dei compagni di squadra. Ai miei compagni faccio un grande 'in bocca al lupo' per la partita di Cesena. Ho letto che tutta la vicenda sarebbe collegata a speculazioni di mercato ma ribadisco che, sempre che ce ne sia la possibilità, è mia ferma intenzione rimanere alla Sampdoria. Quanto accaduto non tiene conto del particolare momento che sto vivendo insieme a mia moglie - ha dichiarato all'Ansa -. Se voglio starle vicino il più possibile, compatibilmente con i miei tantissimi impegni agonistici, un motivo ci sarà ma non voglio rendere pubblica la mia privacy".

"I am sorry for what happened and due to this have apologized to Doctor Garrone, who is very dear to me, in front of my teammates. To my teammates, I send a big 'good luck' for the match against Cesena. I read that the whole incident was planned due to transfer market speculations. But I repeat that for as long as there has been the possibility, it is my firm intention to remain with Sampdoria.

What happened doesn't take into account a certain matter that I'm experiencing together with my wife. If I want to be as close to her as possible, compatible with my great number of playing and training appearances, there will be a reason, but I don't want to compromise my privacy."

«Posso dire che la Juventus non è assolutamente dietro questa operazione: non abbiamo intenzione di commettere alcun atto sleale nei confronti della Sampdoria, ma soprattutto nel nostro progetto in questo momento Cassano non c'è: quindi le voci che circolano sono prive di credibilità».

"I can say that Juventus is absolutely not behind this situation. We don't have the intent to commit some sly act in dealing with Samp, but above all, in our current project, Cassano isn't involved. Therefore, the voices moving around don't have credibility."

Gigi Del Neri of Juventus was quoted by Corriere dello Sport:

«Questa Juve ha sette vite, abbiamo riconquistato un posto importante, ma non dobbiamo cullarci. Dobbiamo andare avanti lottando su ogni pallone tutti con spirito di sacrificio».

Silvio Berlusconi was quoted by La Gazzetta dello Sport:
