Translated Quotes of the Italian Serie A Week 9 from Antonio Cassano, Alessandro Del Piero, Silvio Berlusconi, Riccardo Garrone, Luigi Del Neri, Beppe Marotta and Diego Maradona
By Steve AmoiaContributing Writer
We have some interesting quotes this week from the world of Italian calcio. Riccardo Garrone discusses the latest "Cassanate," and Antonio Cassano and Beppe Marrota dispel the notion that it was staged to ease a transfer away from Sampdoria. Former Napoli legend, Diego Maradona, discusses his 50th birthday and coaching Leo Messi. Gigi Del Neri and Alex Del Piero discuss the win over Milan, and Alex drops a surprising hint. Marrota has an ambiguous quote about Del Piero's future. AC Milan patron, Silvio Berlusconi, gives a surprisingly candid assessment of what went wrong at the San Siro on Saturday night.

Riccardo Garrone, patron of Sampdoria, on the latest "Cassanate" by Antonio Cassano. Apparently, Antonio refused to make an appearance at a local awards ceremony which prompted his latest outburst. Both were quoted by La Gazzetta dello Sport.
"He raised his voice and shouted 'f*ck,' which about 20 supporters also heard... Also heard were 'go screw yourself,' 'old piece of sh*t', and various 'sons of b*tches' in front of some players, among them Pazzini, Lucchini, Marilungo, Pozzi and Dessena."
Antonio Cassano was contrite, affirmed his desire to stay but alluded to a marital situation:
"I am sorry for what happened and due to this have apologized to Doctor Garrone, who is very dear to me, in front of my teammates. To my teammates, I send a big 'good luck' for the match against Cesena. I read that the whole incident was planned due to transfer market speculations. But I repeat that for as long as there has been the possibility, it is my firm intention to remain with Sampdoria.
What happened doesn't take into account a certain matter that I'm experiencing together with my wife. If I want to be as close to her as possible, compatible with my great number of playing and training appearances, there will be a reason, but I don't want to compromise my privacy."

Sampdoria forward Antonio Cassano
Director General Beppe Marotta of Juventus, formerly with Sampdoria, quoted by Tuttosport on Cassano:
"I can say that Juventus is absolutely not behind this situation. We don't have the intent to commit some sly act in dealing with Samp, but above all, in our current project, Cassano isn't involved. Therefore, the voices moving around don't have credibility."
Napoli and Argentine legend, Diego Maradona, quoted by La Gazzetta dello Sport.
"It's the saddest birthday of my life." (On his recent 50th.)
"It was a great honor to be able to manage Leo Messi. With me, he was happy, with hardly any doubts, and nobody can really understand that as I can. We spoke at length about football and life, but his tears in the dressing room after the defeat against Germany is greater than 1000 words."
Director General Beppe Marotta of Juventus quoted by Tuttosport on Alessandro Del Piero's future at Juve:
"The contract renewal for Del Piero? We'll evaluate things in the future since he represents the history of Juventus and deserves respect."
Alessandro Del Piero of Juventus quoted by La Gazzetta dello Sport."Questa partita sarebbe la mia ultima partita al San Siro."
"This could be my last game at the San Siro." (His Twitter page also said the same thing in English.)
"These games are like all the others in the sense that they are worth three points, but for me, they have a special flavor. It's been a long time since we won at the San Siro."
Gigi Del Neri of Juventus was quoted by Corriere dello Sport:
"This Juve side has seven lives. We have found our way back to an important position (in the table), but we can't fall asleep. We have to go forward with everyone fighting for each ball with the spirit of sacrifice."

AC Milan Coach Massimiliano Allegri and AC Milan Owner Silvio Berlusconi
Silvio Berlusconi was quoted by La Gazzetta dello Sport:
"When you win, you talk. When you lose, you shut up...
It was a game in which the energies on the pitch were equal, and Juventus scored one more goal and this is football. We had many goal-scoring chances. Milan didn't play badly and didn't deserve this. But one of the laws of football says that when you have so many chances and don't convert them, the other team scores and takes advantage. And that is what happened."
