Italy Going Down to the 11th Position in the FIFA World Ranking After the 2010 World Cup. How do you evaluate the performance of Italy in the World Cup?

By Anna Italia

The nightmare of the Italian National Team continues after the 2010 World Cup elimination in the first round.  Yep.  I am extremely upset to see Italy going from the 5th position down to the 11th position according to the last FIFA / Coca Cola World  Ranking updated on July 14, 2010.  Before the World Cup, Italy had 1,184 points, and after the World Cup Italy have 982 points.  Simply put, Italy went down 6 positions losing -202 points.  Italy have until August 11 to improve their ranking.

BEFORE WORLD CUP - FIFA World Ranking: Italy 5th place with 1,184 points

AFTER WORLD CUP     - FIFA World Ranking: Italy 11th place with 982 points

It's the challenge from new Italy Head Coach Cesare Prandelli to rebuild Italy's status and football quality.  First measure will be to "rebuild" the first team keeping few experienced players, but opening the door to top young footballers like Sampdoria forward Giampaolo Pazzini (25), Juventus defender Leandro Bonucci (23), Villareal forward Giuseppe Rossi (23), Inter forward Mario Balotelli (19), Genoa forward Robert Acquafresca (22).   I agree on calling up  some of the experienced players if they are fit to play the 90 minutes and not depend on only few minutes hoping for a miracle, as it happened during the 2010 World Cup.

The main challenge is to find the replacement of goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon who will be out for months after his back injury.  Lippi opted for Cagliari goalkeeper Federico Marchetti as second goalkeeper, but not having a brilliant performance in the game against Slovakia.  Next candidates will be Palermo goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu, Napoli goalkeeper Morgan De Sanctis, Juventus goalkeeper Marco Storari,  and we might consider AC Milan Marco Amelia who "once was the second goalkeeper."

This is the FINAL 2010 FIFA World Cup Group F Teams Standing Italy ending in the bottom last place... OUCH.
