How far can a fan go?  Mario Ferri, the Italian fan, carrying the message "Antonio in Nazionale"  made another  invasion this time in South Africa during the World Cup game Semifinal Germany vs Spain  on July 7, 2010.   Ferri wearing his Superman t-shirt with the message "Cassano in Nazionale, Lippi te l'avevo detto" in English "Cassano in the National team, Lippi I told you so."  This is the third invasion from Mario Ferri interrupting a soccer game. Ferri giving the option to pay a fine of  R3000 or three months in jail by a World Cup Court on Thursday, police said.

Here is the  thing guys.  Let's face it. Italy played super bad in this World Cup and eliminated during the first round ending in the very rock bottom place.  Question is whether Antonio Cassano could have saved the team.  Well, I don't think so.  It involved the whole team philosophy and Lippi's lack of  motivating the team as he admitted "seeing the fear in the eyes of players."  Sure, with Cassano maybe the team could have done a bit better.

I wonder what is Antonio Cassano feeling about his super avid fan?  Ferri has invaded 3 games already and punishment seems not worrying him a bit.  Imagine  going all the way to South Africa with the intention to invade a game to show his T-shirt message for Cassano?   You bet Ferri was detained and also getting a fine.  What's the point being banned 8 years from attending the match?  Although, the 8 years later reduced.

Here is the thing, what about if new Italy head coach Cesare Prandelli call up Antonio Cassano?  Ferri will not go to the stadium to watch him play either because he is banned.  So......  was it worthy?  Anyway, if Cassano or any other player are called up for the National team will be on their own football merits whether fans agree or disagree.

First Invasion - November 14, 2009
