Good morning.  I was ready to  report on the headlines from the Italian newspapers and found out there is a strike today Friday, July 9, 2010.  Media  protesting against the bill curbing the use of wiretaps and their publication proposed by the government of Silvio Berlusconi.  It is a protest against a measure from interception and not free way  to inform on the procedure of some judiciary cases which is the right to inform to every citizen.  The strike initiative for one day is taken by the Italian National Federation of Media (Federazione Nazionale Stampa Italiana) .  The  strike for  online web newspapers and news services is scheduled from Friday, July 9 at 06:00 until Saturday, July 10 at 06:00.

It's the day of silence from Italian media. "contro le norme del “ddl intercettazioni” che limitano pesantemente il diritto dei cittadini a sapere come procedono le inchieste giudiziarie, infliggendo gravi interruzioni al libero circuito delle notizie"

The Italian Senate approved the bill in June and now must be passed by the lower house Chamber of Deputies to get the signature of Italy President Giorgio Napolitano before becoming law.  The bill also calls for fines of up to €464 700 for journalists or editors   publishing  transcripts of wiretaps in the media.

News agency, website, television and radio journalists will not work on Friday July 9, imposing for the day a news blackout across media in Italy.
