A historical moment because it will be the first time either for Paraguay or Spain to pass to a World Cup Semifinal.  Paraguay  already making history by qualifying to the  Quarterfinal.  Now, everything can happen after   the elimination of giant powers Argentina and Brazil.   Spain, the actual European Champions, also with their turn to become World Cup Champions passing to the Semifinals.   A battle won again by Spain lucky charm forward David Villa.  There are no Italian Serie A players in Spain National team, there is 1 Italy Serie B player in Paraguay National team.

1 Italy Serie B player with PARAGUAY National Football team Paraguay

Here is the disciplinary situation.  If getting  a yellow card in this game, Paraguay players Enrique Vera, Cristian Riveros and Roque Santa Cruz will miss the next game.  For Spain,   Xabi Alonso.  By the way, Alonso is the first Spanish players to be booked in the finals during the match against Portugal.

A spectacle to watch the entrance of players from Paraguay and Spain to the pitch and you bet they are making their individual prayers to win this game.  It's show time guys.

National anthem now and closeup from players.

hey, hey, look who made it to the lineup in Spain.. the "NINO TORRES".. many saying he is not being decisive, but too slow .. well.. Del Bosque considers him a key player.

Guys, a curious detail, the captain in both teams are the goalkeepers. Yep.  Paraguay captain Justo Villar and Spain goalkeeper Iker Casillas.

Spain National Football Gear

Curious detail in this game is about Spain forward David Villa having scored in each of the last 3 games of Spain in World Cup equaling the record  from Telmo Zarra  made it in 1950 and from Fernando Hierro (World Cup 1998-2002).

Oops,in the 1st minute, first shot on goal is for Paraguay with an assist by Oscar Cardozo to  Santana  taking advantage of Spain leaving the door open but his low ball shot goes directly to the arm of goalkeeper Iker Casillas.

In the 8th minute, Spain goalkeeper Iker Casillas taking way too long  to clear and in that  "slow motion response," Paraguay speeding up to snatch the ball away from Casillas with Valdes making a baseball type slide.... Casillas was lucky this did not end with a goal.

Paraguay  showing determination again, and in the 35th minute superman? batman?  spiderman?  wowwww awesome when Valdez run forward to make a pass for Morel ... though it ends up sending a cross  in the far post when you see Santana flying in action  and missing the target...

Spain feeling  the pressure and a knock, knock in the 41st minute with Cardozo!  Yep, there is a LiveFootballwhole rocking roll action with a ball towards Cardozo... oops he missed it while Valdez making a super individual show a chested touch and slammmmmmmm  goooaallll.. though hold your horses because the linesman  lift the flag before for offside.....  what? hum? yea.... though  replay not showing Valdez offside but Cardozo..  Check the photo Valdez clearly defeating Casillas while Piquet  and Ramos could only  observe....

First half ends 41% ball possession Paraguay and 59% ball possession Spain.

Paraguay goalkeeper Justo Villar punches away the ball from Spain' forward  Fernando Torres, Paraguay's Paulo Da Silva with number 14 also in the action to block Torres.

Hey, hey, PENALTYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY   in the 57th minute Gerard Piquet holding with both hands Cardozo until bringing him down inside the penalty box... and there you it is a super crystal water penalty here, in Japon, China, South Africa and everywhereeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee  Referee giving also the yellow card to Piquet.

Taking the penalty shot is Paraguay forward Oscar Cardozo  concentrated.. closeup showing sweat drop.....      and there he goes with a  left  footed shot and MMAMMMAMIAAAA   Cardozo failing to converttttttt Spain goalkeeper Iker Casillas saves in the bottom right corner!!!!!  Cardozzo cannot believe it and hold his face with both hands while Casillas with a loud roaring to encourage his teammates.....

Photo Reuters...

Here is the moment when Spain goalkeeper  Iker Casillas saves the penalty shot from Cardozo......

Ohwhat?  You won't believe it guys... not even 3 minutes and we have another penalty this time for SPAIN!!!!!!  Yep, in the  59th minute Antolin Alcaraz commits a foul on David Villa bringing him down while hewas on his way to score inside the penalty area and without hesitation Referee Batres  grants the penalty and giving a yellow card to  Alcaraz.   Now,we are talking.. you wanted emotions?   jump in therollercoasterrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Taking the penalty shot is Xabi Alonso and every Spain fan praying while close up from Madrid....  there you go goooallllllllllllllllllllllll oh my gosh, mamma miaaaa oh oh spaghetti ohhhh guys, you wont' believe it but the goal is ruled out because there was another Spain  player moving  inside so no celebration and he has to shoot again....   oh goshhhhhh
Yep, Xabi Alonso taking the spot... Alonso with a right footed shot and guess what? whatttttt  well, light up the candle if you root for Paraguay because goalkeeper Villar saves in the bottom right corner and now it is a total mess inside the area  in the middle of the whole give and take replay sowing  there was another penalty not conceded to Spain... so here is an action for technology....

Finally, Spain in a cowabunga rocambolesca action originated by Andres Iniesta to Pedro... there you see the man of the match....  David Villa with a right footed shot blasting an empty net on a rebound after Pedro attempted first  and it hit the posts, then Villa on the rebound taking the shot and it goes towards the bottom left corner like pool shot....
Paraguay 0 - 1 Spain

Paraguay still having their shot in the 89th minute when Roque Santacruz delivered a low shot and goalkeeper Casillas saving.

Referee  Batres whistles the end of the game ending with 40% ball possession Paraguay an 60% ball possession Spain.

Sad faces for Paraguay and the unstopping cry from Paraguay forward Oscar Cardozo at the end of the match.  Cardozo failing to convert one penalty feeling with a low morale and his teammates cannot console him.

Just love the idea of these two Paraguay fans with the big flag, banner rooting for Paraguay "Go Paraguay"
