"When we won the 2006 World Cup we became Knights of the Republic, now they will make us Knights of Shame, and it is right. Italian football must make a deep evaluation. We have touched rocked bottom this afternoon. We all should take responsibility. I hope for the Italian National team that the new coach construct a good group and prepare a competitive team. It was my last game with the Azzurri and the worst than this game I could have not even imagined. Now we must go on. What do I say to the Italians? I understand the frustration. If I were on their place, I would be disappointed too. We must accept everything.".

ITALY AND JUVENTUS GOALKEEPER GIANLUIGI BUFFON
"If in three games, two of them with New Zealand and Slovakia, one does not reach to win at least one, the it is right to return home and try to understand what has happened. The match with Paraguay maybe the best game, especially in intensity levels and drive to look for the game. The match with New Zealand was worst, and now, besides the last minutes, we have not demonstrate to be competitive with teams of higher level. From the physical point of view, I have not seen big problems. I think we missed having more ideas, especially after the injury of Pirlo.
When asked if someone who was not called up could have provided the ideas, Buffon, said no. I believe this is the panorama of Italian football. It is not an optimum moment for our football. We already suspected this. Lippi was more motivated than 4 years ago because he knew it was his last experience. I don't think the difference from the 2006 team was the drive from the coach, but of some players like Totti and Del Piero who were not here this time. The goal of the 3-1 was clamorous. Bottom line is that we conceded 3 goals from Slovakia."
ITALY AND AC MILAN DEFENDER GIANLUCA ZAMBROTTA
"Let's recite the Mea Culpa. The analysis is only one. There's a lot of sadness for this elimination, but if you obtain justtwo points in three games, it's fair like that. In the first two games we have played good games. Today, we failed in the first half In the second half we improved, and we could have passed. All players must make the "Mea Culpa." I think there was the right mix in this team with experienced and young, but the fault is for everybody, not just the coach. Now we must cancel thisbad episode and re-start with a new cycle."
ITALY AND AC MILAN MIDFIELDER ANDREA PIRLO
"We failed to win a match in an accessible group, sign that there was something which was not going well right from the start. We take all our responsibilities,unfortunately it went like this. We arrived with many new players, a lot of pressure, maybe we were not a strong group like the one of 2006. We had to do much more. I did everything I could to return as soon as possible, but it did not help."
