What's going with the Italian National team on Saturday, June 19, 2010

-  Italy National team training session morning

-  17:30 Charter flight landing  from Johannesburg to Nelspruit.  An hour after the arrivaland the transfer to the 'Mbombela Stadium' just for a visit to the pitchwhich will host the match against the New Zealanders.

- 19:00  Going to Mbombela Stadium

-  19.45 there  will be the press conference of coach Marcello Lippi and players.

This is it guys.  Last training of the Italian National team before the second World Cup game against New Zealand on Sunday, June 20, 2010.    The Azzurri training at Southdowns College in Centurion.

-   Absent in the training AC Milan midfielder Andrea Pirlo continuing his calf  recovery .  Also absent from training is goalkeeper  Gianluigi Buffon who is not traveling with the team.

-  Training today closed door and only the first 15 minutes open to the press.  What is expected is the switch from the 4-3-3 formation to the 4-4-2 formation based on this week training.

-  Sunday, June 20 is the match and the Italian National team returning to Centurion after the match and press conference.  Monday there will be the morning training session at 11:30 am.

-  Objective:  To increase the goal average. In the last 6 games, Italy have scored only 4 goals. Target is to see forwards Alberto Gilardino, Antonio Di Natale, and Vincenzo Iaquinta scoring more than 1 goal as a group.  Lippi favoring  Di Natale to start along Alberto Gilardino with the 4-4-2 formation.

Here is the thing guys.  the "4 lonesome goals" have been scored by defender Bonucci against Mexico, forward Fabio Quagliarella against  Switzerland, and midfielder Daniele De Rossi against Paraguay.  Hello, it means "only 1 forward scoring" what about the others?  Alberto Gilardino not scoring yet, Iaquinta neither and neither Pazzini. It's about time to shoot and blast the net....
Definitely, I will give a shot to Di Natale and Pazzini usually starting as substitutes.

Imagine ... defenders playing the role of "forwards" hum? what? really?  Yep. defender Giorgio Chiellini scoring against Sweden.  Totaling 2 goals from 2 central defenders, 1 from a midfielder and just 1 from a striker.

-  Last match with New Zealand in 2009 in South Africa just before the Confederations Cup.  Italy defeating New Zealand 4-3.  Two goals scored by Gilardino and 2 from Iaquinta.  Can they repeat the same this time too?  I HOPE SO.
