Italy Serie A Week 38 - 2009 - 2010 ITALY SERIE A PREVIEW Thirty Eighth Round on Saturday, May 15 and Sunday, May 16, 2010 "Post your predictions now"

By Anna Italia

Hello guys, countdown is over!!!!!!

It's the end   of the  2009 - 2010 Italian Serie A Season... and we will start the 2010 World Cup fever where my blog Italian Soccer Serie A will support 100% the Italian National football team and give coverage to our Italian Serie A players with their respective national teams in the World Cup.

Final battle for the Scudetto is between Inter and AS Roma.  A total  wake up from the Roman gladiators who were once 14 points behind Inter and making a super comeback until the end of the season reducing the distance to just 2 points.  Inter will be the winner of the Scudetto if they defeat AC Siena.  Inter having 79 points while AS Roma 77 points.  Inter already  won the Coppa Italia and the Scudetto  might be the second trophy  if they defeat Siena, while Inter might collect a third one  if defeating Bayern Munich in the Champions League Final to be played on May 22, 2010 at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.

Second and final battle to grab a spot for the Champions League play offs is between Sampdoria and Palermo. Sampdoria taking the lead right now with 64 points while Palermo have 62 points.

Sampdoria playing against Napoli at the Luigi Ferraris  Stadium.  A victory  will declare Sampdoria the 4th team and ready for  the Champions League play offs next year.

Palermo  playing an way game against Atalanta at the Atleti Azzurri D'Italia.   Atalanta already relegated to he Serie B have nothing to lose the pressure will be for  Palermo. It's all or nothing, but neither  they  can rely on their  victory alone, but on Napoli defeating Sampdoria.

Here is the scenario for winning the  Scudetto

1. Inter defeating AC Siena will result with Inter having 82  points = INTER WINNER of the SCUDETTO

2. Roma defeating Chievo Verona and  Siena defeating Inter will result Roma  having 80 points and  Inter 79, = ROMA winner of the Scudetto

3.  If Inter draw with Siena  and AS Roma defeat Chievo Verona, both  will have 80 points.  The winner  of the Scudetto will be AS ROMA because the  direct encounter in favor of Roma.

First round  Inter 1 - 1 AS Roma (goals by Samuel Eto'o and MIrko Vucinic), November 8, 2009

AC Siena - Inter (before the match)
Artemio Franchi  Stadium
Italy Serie A Standing:  Inter 1st position, 79  points
AC Siena 19th position, 31  points

Siena without pressure and already relegated to the Serie B.  Inter with the pressure of winning or else. Yep.  Inter  will need a victory to secure the scudetto despite the result from AS Roma.   Inter can collect the second trophy of the season after claiming the Coppa Italia.   Winning the scudetto will be a like the super energy shot needed to face the final of the Champions League match against Bayern Munich at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium on May 22, 2010.

Technically, the favorite is Inter.  Superiority in each department totally clear.  Just  compare  the numbers.  Inter with 48 points ahead of Siena.  That's not all, let's compare goals made...  uffa a headache for Siena.....   Siena scoring only 40 goals and conceding 66 goals. OUCH.. it means a total negative goal difference of -26.  A total opposite "dominium" with Inter passing the test with flying colors.  Check it out.... Inter scoring 74 goals, conceding 34 having a total positive goal difference of 40. Yep.    Plus, Inter have the second top scorer of the Serie A with forward Diego Milito having 21 goals.

Photo Reuters.
Will it be another  shout of joy from Inter coach  Jose Mourinho celebrating  a victory against Siena as he did on January 9, 2010 at the Giuseppe Meazza.?

Will it be a victory for Roma??????

This is a match not lose.  However, everything depends on what happens in the match  C Sine a vs Inter. Yep!   Roma might win this game but if Inter also win  against Siena, then, the race is over and Inter will be celebrating  winning the Scudetto at the Artemio Franchi Stadium.

You bet it will be 90 minutes of agony were the Roman gladiators will battle    with all their strength while Roma fans pry for  Siena to draw or defeat Inter.   Chievo  won't  be that  "Mr nice team."  Hello, Roma will have to  sweat  if they want to win the 3 points....  and the Scudetto., oh my gosh,  I  can't wait to see the final outcome....

San Siro   Stadium
Italy Serie A Standing:  AC Milan 3rd position, 67  points
                                          Juventus 7th position, 55 points

A match without  significance for the  Serie  A table as Milan already secured their 3r position and direct qualification to the Champions League while for  Juventus no chance for the Champions but only to the Europa League.  Juventus urging  for an immediate pause to readjust their squad and forget such a disappointing  year.

25 victories AC Milan

This season stats totally in favor for AC Milan.  Milan scoring 57 goals and conceding 39 having a total positive goal difference of +18.  Juventus scoring only 55 goals and conceding 55, wow, yep... imagine just a positive of +2  goal difference.  Ironically,  Juventus are the based of the Italian National Football team with coach Marcello Lippi calling up 8 players.

It will be the time for Juventus maybe to avenge their  humiliating defeat on Week 19  when AC Milan beat them  in the Olimpico di Torino, Juventus 0 - 3 AC Milan on January 10, 2010 .

Last match  in San Siro ended with a 1 -1 draw on May 10, 2009.

Sampdoria will try to  consolidate their historical momentum by defeating Napoli in front of their fans at the Luigi Ferraris stadium for a giant party.  The victory  will see Sampdoria in the Champions League playoffs.   Sampdoria with Giampaolo Pazzini's successful season after his transfer from Fiorentina  to Sampdoria plus being called up along midfielder Angelo Palombo by Italy Head coach Marcello Lippi for the preliminary list  of the 2010 World Cup.  Sadly, despite all the public support Sampdria forward Antonio Cassano did not make it  for the called up list.

Napoli also  securing their   presence in Europe by  qualifying to the Europa League next season.  A well deserved season for Napoli and now   celebrating also their strong   presence  in the big show with 7 Napoli players called up by their respective national teams for the 2010 World Cup: Ezequiel Lavezzi Argentina), Fabio Quagliarella (Italy), Morgan De Sanctis (Italy), Cristian Maggio (Italy), Marek Hamsik (Slovakia), Walter Gargano (Uruguay), .

Sant'Elia  Stadium
Italy Serie A Standing:  Cagliari 14th  position, 43  points
                                           Bologna 17th position,41 points

Here is a peaceful match where the result won't affect their respective standings.  Cagliari  and Bologna already saved.   Ideally, a victory for Cagliari in front of their fans at the Sant'Elia Stadium.  Marchetti and Cossu called up by Italy head coach Marcello Lippi in the provisional  list for the World Cup.

A happy  face is for Bologna Stephan Appiah returning to play and even called up  by Ghana National football team for the World cup.  Appiah played last Sunday when substituting  Zalayeta and  receiving teh  good wishes from his  connazionali via SMS from Muntari, Essien, and Adebayor.

Cagliari have scored 55 goals and conceded 57 having a negative goal difference of -2.  Bologna scoring only 41 goals and conceding 54 goals having a cowabunga negative goal difference of -13. Ouch.
