Italy Serie A Week 37 - 2009 - 2010 ITALY SERIE A PREVIEW Thirty Seventh Round on Sunday, May 9, 2010 "Post your predictions now"

By Anna Italia

Hello guys, countdown for the end   of the  2009 - 2010 Italian Serie A Season...  1  more game after this one.   It's a give and take on the  race for the Scudetto with Inter  taking back the first position with 76 points while AS Roma back to the second position with 74 points.  Inter and Roma played yesterday "May 5" the final of the Coppa Italia and Inter winning the trophy... the first of the 3 awaited trophies which include also the Scudetto and the Champions League.

Champions League Final tickets

BAYERN MUNICH vs INTER MILAN tickets,

Get this one guys.... what?  Well, Inter might be declared winner of the Scudetto this Sunday?  hum? what? really? Yep, yep, yep... with only 1 more game after this one, a victory against Chievo Verona  with the combination from Roma vs Cagliari.   Simply... if Roma draw or lose against Cagliari and Inter defeat Chievo ....  that will be all "mathematically speaking" Inter will be the winner.......

Here is the scenario....

Inter  ... 76 points
Roma ...74 points

Inter defeating Chievo Verona will result with Inter having 79 points
Roma draw with Cagliari will result with Roma having 75  points
Roma losing with Cagliari will result with Roma having 74 points

AC Milan now out of the race for the Scudetto with 67points.  However, apart from the  race for the Scudetto, the focus is on Palermo and Sampdoria both fighting until the last game to get the 4th position for the Champions League Play Off.

Sampdoria right now have the lead holding the 4th position with  63 points while Palermo have 61 points.  The direct encounter at the Renzo Barbera Stadium this Sunday promises to be a SUPER CLASH .. it's all or nothing... win or lose....  a draw helps only Sampdoria who will still be in the leadership.  If Palermo want to take back the 4th position, they will have to defeat Sampdoria, simple as 1+ 1 = 2.
.

Fighting for salvation are  Lazio, Bologna,  Atalanta, Siena, and Livorno.  Livorno already with their one way ticket  for relegation  to the Serie B.  Lazio and Bologna need to win their respective game to be saved.... a defeat and victory from Atalanta might put Lazio down to their knees to pray for salvation.  Why?  Hum? Well, is it comes to same points between Lazio and Atalanta, Lazio will be relegated because Atalanta have the best part in direct encounter with Lazio.

Inter  - Chievo Verona  (before the match)
Giuseppe Meazza  Stadium
Italy Serie A Standing:  Inter 1st position, 76  points
Chievo Verona 14th position, 44 points

Inter super motivated conquering the first trophy of the Season by winning the 2009  - 2010 Coppa Italia on Wednesday, May 5, 2010 after defeating AS Roma with a goal by forward Diego Milito.   Chievo Verona already saved  traveling to the Giuseppe Meazza  without pressure.

hey, if you are wondering who is the player leading the orchestra.... that's defender Cristian Chivu!!!

Technically speaking, Inter is superior  in every field compared to Chievo Verona.  It is almost unthinkable that Inter could lose this game.  However, nothing makes sense in soccer and Chievo might cause a final surprise by defeating Inter... which is almost an impossible dream....

A problem for Inter might be the absence  for injury from midfielder Wesley Sneijder who had to be substituted  in the 4th minute  during the Coppa Italia final having problems with his right leg after Roma defender Nicolas Burdisso committed a foul on him.  Inter coach Jose Mourinho giving today "Thursday, May 6" the day off to the team and will resume training for Chievo on Friday.

Here is the disciplinary situation.  No suspended players for Inter. Wow, nine players carrying one yellow card: Esteban Cambiasso, Sneijder,  Balotelli, Muntari, Thiago Motta, Walter Samuel, Arnautovic, Materazzi, and Cordoba.

Two suspended players for Chievo Verona:  Morero and Pinzi.  Four players carrying one yellow card: Iori, Marcolini, Sorrentino, and Bianchi.

Here is the probable formation from FC INTER (4-2-3-1): JulioCesar,Maicon,Cordoba,  Walter Samuel, Javier Zanetti, Dejan Stankovic,  Esteban Cambiasso,   Samuel Eto'o, Muntari, Mario Balotelli and Diego Milito

Here is the probable formation for CHIEVO VERONA(4-3-1-2):   Sorrentino; N. Frey, Yepes,  Mantovani; Jokic, Sardo, Rigoni, Marcolini,  Bentivoglio, DePaula, and Sergio Pellissier.

Anna Italia Prediction:  INTER

Palermo - Sampdoria    (before the match)
Renzo Barbera  Stadium
Italy Serie A Standing:   Palermo 5th  position,  61points
                                            Sampdoria 4th position, 63 points

Just 2  points separate Palermo from Sampdoria.....

Sampdoria dreaming with the Champions League
Palermo also dreaming with the Champions League...
Only one can get the 4th position to be in the Champions League playoff.....

Palermo will have the support from an entire  city who have jumped in Palermo bandwagon with the "fever to support the team"  It's a historic moment  not only for Palermo, but also for Sampdoria who have done a great season leaving behind traditional teams occupying  the top 5 positions: Juventus, Fiorentina, Lazio....

Here is the thing guys.  Whether Palermo or Sampdoria lose this game, the teams deserved a standing ovation from their respective fans.

Pressure will be for Sampdoria  to resist the constant  roar at the Renzo Barbera Stadium.

It is a battle, a bloody battle... no gimmicks here, but a tough match to play and win.  A draw won't help Palermo.

It's also a challenge between Sampdoria forward Giampaolo Pazzini called up by Italy Head Coach during the Pre Retreat in Roma along Palermo goalkeeper Salvatore...  Also, the non called up by Lippi and acclaimed buy many: Sampdoria goalkeeper Marco Storari, Palermo forward Fabrizio Miccoli and Sampdoria forward Antonio Cassano.

Palermo  and Sampdoria both played a "preparatory friendly matc with local teams on Thursday  to test their strategies and players.

Sampdoria playing  under the rain against "Fidentina" winning 4-0.  Scoring Antonio Cassano, Guberti and two goals y Testardi.

Top scorer for Palermo is forward  Fabrizio Miccoli with 18 goals while for Sampdoria is Giampaolo Pazzini with 17 goals.

Referee Roberto Rosetti has been assigned to direct the game assisted by Calcago and Di Liberatore with four Official Emidio Morganti.

Here is the disciplinary situation.  Two suspended players for PALERMO: Cesare Bovo and Carrozzieri.  Five players carrying one yellow card: Migliacio, Fabrizio Miccoli, Blasi, Bresciano, and Cavani.

No suspended players for SAMPDORIA. Wow, six players carrying one yellow card: Zauri, Antonio Cassano, Tissone, Rossi, Pazzini, and Lucchini.  Sampdoria players must avoid  red cards or  getting unnecessary yellow cards because coach Gigi Del Neri will need all his best men for the last game of the season against Napoli at the Ferraris Stadium.

Here is the probable formation for PALERMO (4-3-1-2): SalvatoreSirigu, Cassani, Simon Kjaer, Goian,  Balzaretti, Migliaccio,  Liverani,Antonio Nocerino, Javier Pastore, Fabrizio Micoli, and Edison Cavani.

Here is the probable formation for SAMPDORIA (4-4-2):Marco Storari,Zauri, Gastadello, Lucchini,  Reto Ziegler, Semioli, Angelo Palombo, Poli, Mannini, Giampaolo Pazzini and Antonio Cassano

Anna Italia Prediction:  DRAW

Napoli -  Atalanta   (before the match)
San Paolo Stadium
Italy Serie AStanding:   Napoli 6th position,  56 points
                                           Atalanta 18th position, 35points

Oh my gosh!!!!!!  wow, wow, wow. Here is a match where  each player will be tested and giving their best performance knowing the about the importance for winning.  Say who?  Well, let me tell you... Napoli already out of the race for the Champions League play off because the battle for the 4th  position is just between Sampdoria and Palermo.  However, Napoli cannot lose this game and neither next one when they will face Sampdoria at the Luigi Ferraris.

If you are still wondering what's the big deal about this game?  ONE single point separating  Napoli's dream to be in the Europa League because Juventus have 55 points.  It means if Napoli draw or lose against Atalanta wile Juventus defeat Parma.. then, say it loudly HEY HEY HEY... Napoli will live an agonizing last game because Juventus would take away the 6th position leaving out Napoli from the Europa League.

Though, wait, there is more..... Atalanta who are "technically" still fighting for salvation will need a victory and hope for Lazio to lose the last 2 games.  Hum?  Yep!  Atalanta can save themselves only if Lazio lose their last 2 games and Atalanta winning their last 2.  Chances for Atalanta to defeat Napoli in the San Paolo not that high. But hold on... don't  run so fast... in agonizing, desperation moments either Atalanta become the "GREEN HULK" and demolish Napoli and hope to defeat at home Palermo next week.... wow, wow, wow... what a scenarioooooo just like a  thriller!!!!!!

Anyway, out of the 46 games  between Napoli - Atalanta played in Napoli  for the Serie A, Serie B and Coppa Italia (one except played in neutral terrain in Livorno 1959/1960).  Stats are totally in favor of Napoli.

31 victories Napoli
11 draw
4 victories Atalanta
74 goals  Napoli
24 goals  Atalanta

Last victory from Napoli in the San Paolo  with Atalanta on April 13, 2008. Napoli 2 -0 Atalanta, goals by Marek Hamsik in the 62nd minute and Ezequiel Lavezzi in the 64th minute.

Last draw: April 11, 2009.  Napoli 0 - 0 Atalanta.

Last victory from Atalanta against Napoli on September 24, 1997. Napoli 0-1 Atalanta goal by Caccia in the 50th minute.

Here is the disciplinary situation.  Two suspended players for NAPOLI:  Grava and Zuniga.  Three  players carrying one yellow card:  Campagnaro, Lavezzi, and Pazienza.

Florence, Rome, Venice and Naples Booking ServiceOne suspended player for ATALANTA:  Pellegrino.  Five players carrying one yellow card: Amoruso, Gyorgy Garics, Jaime Valdes, Talamonti, and Chevanton.

Here is the probable formation forNAPOLI (3-4-2-1): Morgan De Sanctis, Campagnaro, Paolo Cannavaro,  Rinaudo,Cristian Maggio,  Pazienza,  Walter Gargano,  Aronica,   Marek Hamsik, Ezequiel Lavezzi and Fabio Quagliarella.

Here is the probableformationfor ATALANTA (4-4-2): Consigli, Bellini, Capelli,Bianco, Manfredini,  Ferreira Pinto, Simone Padoin, Guarente, JaimeValdes,  Tiribocchi, and Amoruso.

Genoa- AC Milan    (before the match)
Luigi Ferraris  Stadium
Italy Serie A Standing:  Genoa 8th  position,48 points
                                           AC Milan 3rd position, 67points

Genoa without pressure for a spot in the Champions  or the Europa League. The pressure and "big time" is for AC Milan. Yep. Although Milan is alone in the 3rd position, a combination of results from Sampdoria and Palermo in these last 2 games might see Milan falling from grace....

Two games totaling 6 points.... and bear with me... here is the "danger for Milan."  Samdoria with 63 points are only 4 points away from Milan. If Milan lose against Genoa and Sampdoria defeat Palermo, guess what?  What! You guessed it right,  it will be a chaotic nervous breakdown for Milan because the distance will be just 1 point.

Ok, wait, wait, wait..  With one more game, Milan would have to defeat Juventus in San Siro next week, which won't be a soft chewy brownie to chew..... Juventus would want to close the season on a high note qualifying "at least to the Europa League," which a victory is a must for them.

You see why Milan must defeat Genoa?  Having said that...  Genoa President Preziosi declaring though their official website, "It's been adifficult season due to the injuries. Despite everything we are eighth,in the left side of the table and in line with our objectives. Now wewant to finish the season well even if we're without many players.Beating Milan? It won't be easy, we'll try. Mistakes? We made some inour plans. We are thinking of how to improve, our effort goes in thatdirection."

Good and bad news for Milan... Pato returning from injury and also defender Alessandro Nesta.  Yet, last minute test showing Nesta is not ready ...

MILAN-GENOA: RONALDINHO

Here is the disciplinary situation. No suspended players for Genoa, but coach Gian Piero Gasperini is suspended for this game.  Five players carrying one yellow card: Robert Acquafresca, Bocchetti, Scarpi, Suazo and Alberto Zapater.

One suspended player for AC MILAN:  Massimo Ambrosini.   Three players carrying one yellow card: Thiago Silva, Clarence Seedorf, and Giuseppe Favalli.

Here is the probable formation for GENOA (4-4-3_:  Scarpi, Tomovic, Papasthatopoulos, Bocchetti, Mesto , Omar Milanetto, Juric, Criscito, Sculli, Robert Acquafresca, and Rodrigo Palacio.

Here is the probable formation for AC MILAN (4-2-1-3): Dida, Ignazio Abate, Thiago Silva, Daniele Bonera, Luca Antonini, Andrea Pirlo, Mathieu Flamini, Clarence Seedorf, Huntelaar, Marco Borriello and Ronaldinho.

Anna Italia Prediction:  AC MILAN

Italy Serie A Standing:  AS Roma 2nd position, 74 points
                                           Cagliari  13th position,  43 points

Talking about the morale of the team...  imagine the sad faces, frustration... Yeah.. Roma losing the Coppa Italia final on Wednesday, May 5 in the Olimpico by a goal from Inter forward Diego Milito.   Making matters worst, Roma icon Francesco Totti sent off in the very last minutes for a  bad foul on forward Mario Balotelli.

Point is that Roma had the chance to stop Inter's fast race and get the  first title. However, the magician Special One had a better plan and  Roma ending up "too nervous."   Now, the  pressure for Roma to win and hope for Inter to draw or lose against Chievo Verona.   If Roma and Inter win their respective games, the final decision will be in the last game.

Cagliari have nothing to lose.   They will just go to the Olimpico and try to get the 3 points.  You bet Inter fans will be rooting for Cagliari.

Here is the disciplinary situation.  One suspended player for ROMA:  Marco Cassetti.  Two players carrying one yellow card: John Arne Riise, and Mirko Vucinic.

One suspended player for CAGLIARI:  Andrea Cossu.  Five players carrying one yellow card: Nene, Agostini, Astori, Jeda, and Cossu.

Here is the probable formation from AS ROMA (4-2-3-1): Julio Sergio,  Burdisso,  Philippe Mexes, Juan, JohnArne Riise, David Pizarro, Daniele De Rossi, Jeremy Menez, Simone Perrotta, FrancescoTotti, Vucinic.
