Livorno playing for their honor was not enough and had to succumbed to the determination from Sampdoria.   Livorno already in the relegation area while Sampdoria were battling to  get the victory to keep the 4th position and be in the Champions League next season.  Sampdoria in close compettion with Palermo and Juventus also looking for the 4th position. 

Bottom line, the sacking of Livorno coach Serse Cosmi  to replace him with coach Gennaro Ruotolo did not  prove the magic formula for salvation.

Sampdoria  with  this victory adds a boost to their morale and make the trip to  Sicily next Sunday for the direct encounter with Palermo.  A battle for win or win.    Palermo also winning today against AC Siena.   Sampdoria having 63 points and Palermo 61 points, just 2 pints difference.

In the 84th minute, Reto Ziegler scoring his 3rd goal of the season and securing the victory for Sampdoria.   A free kick conceded by Livorno Romano Perticone for a foul on Giampaolo Pazzini.   Here comes the final punch when Ziegler delivers his left footed shot blasting Livorno goalkeeper in the bottom left corner.  Now, Sampdoria will travel to Sicily to play against Palermo on Sunday for either keep the 4th position or losing it.
