Serie A Week 35 - 2009 - 2010 ITALY SERIE A PREVIEW Thirty Fifth Round on Saturday, April 24 and Sunday, April 25, 2010 "Post your predictions now"

By Anna Italia

Hello guys, Countdown for the end of the  200 - 2010 Italian Serie A Season... 3 more games after this one.   AS Roma is the sole leader with 71  points, followed by Inter Milan with 70 points and then by AC Milan with 64 points. Mathematically speaking, Milan can still "dream" with the Scudetto, but hello, after getting more than 3 chances to be in the first place, at this point with 7 points difference with Roma it is almost "an impossible dream."  Bottom line, right now it seems a 2 race for the Scudetto between AS Roma and Inter.

The contestants right now for the 4th position for a spot in the Champions League next year are  Sampdoria, Palermo, Napoli, and Juventus.

Fighting for salvation are Udinese, Lazio, Atalanta, Siena, and Livorno. Oops.. Livorno almost at the entrance of the train to make their travel back to the Serie B.

Imagine the "party mood" that Friday's training  will be OPEN TRAINING SESSION open tot he fans. Yep!  Inter fans can go the Centro Sportivo Angelo Moratti to watch the last training ahead of the match against ATALANTA.   Fans will enter 15 minutes before the 10:30 .a.m. training.

Atalanta's last training on Friday will be closed doors.  Hum?  Any secret strategy to defeat Goliath?

Bad news for Inter is defender Maicon undergoing surgery after the clash with Barcelona forward Lionel Messi during the match.  Another sour news is the ongoing stormy relation of forward Mario Balotelli with his club and he might be sidelined by Mourinho for the rest of the season.

Atalanta midfielder Simone Padoin would play his 100th Serie A match and all with Atalanta.  Padoin's first game  was on August 26, 200 in the match Reggina 1 - 1 Atalanta.

Palermo vs AC Milan     (beforethe match)
Renzo Barbera  Stadium
Italy Serie A Standing:  Palermo 5th  position, 55 points
AC Milan 3rd position, 64 points

This is the match not to miss.  Palermo  just 2 points away from Sampdoria with 57 points to grab again the 4th position and keep the dream to be in the Champions League next season alive.    Yet, Milan with almost a non  existent to grab the Scudetto this season will give it a final shot  to grab these 3 important golden points.  Milan is 7 points away from AS Roma holding the 1st position with 71 points.  For Milan's purpose, Sampdoria will have to defeat Roma and Atalanta defeat Inter. However, how many more chances can Milan get and wasting them all after?

Palermo with a draw or a victory can keep the 5th position and be in the Europa League area.  The main contenders of Palermo are Sampdoria and Napoli.  If Palermo lose against Milan and Napoli defeat Cagliari, wow, then, Palermo risk big time because Napoli would reach 55 points too.

Palermo testing the waters had a friendly practice game on Wednesday at the Renzo Barbaera with open doors.  Around 4,000 Palermo fans  watching the training match where Palermo won 9 -1against Parmonval.  Scoring for Palermo: Edison Cavani, Bertolo, a hat trick from Abel Hernandez, a brace from Morganella, and Igor Budan.

Milan traveling to Palermo with a big loss because forward Marco Borriello is suspended and Pato still injured.

Palermo and Milan have played 22 times in the Renzo Barbera Stadium.  Stats are slightly in favor of Milan.

Napoli  not giving up the dream for a spot in the  Champions League next season. Mathematically speaking, Napoli can still make it to reach the 4 position being only 5 points away from Sampdoria having 57 points.  However, realistically speaking, Napoli at least can secure a spot in the Europa League without depending on the results of other teams.  Spots in the 5th and 6th position  guarantees  the Europa League.

Cagliari  this season a disappointment plus the unexpected sacking of coach Massimliano Allegri.  It seems motivation are no longer in Cagliari after having reached the "41 points" which make them saved to remain in the Serie A next season.

Napoli and Cagliari have played 31 times at the San Paolo Stadium with stats in favor of Napoli.  Only match  not played in the San Paolo was for the 2001 - 2002 season played in Cava de Tirenni.  Games include 24 in Serie A, 4 in Serie B, and 3 in Coppa Italia.

18 victories Napoli
9 draws
4 victories Cagliari
44 gols  Napoli
19 gols  Cagliari

Last victory from Napoli against Cagliari in San Paolo on March 27, 2004. Napoli 1 - 0 Cagliari, gol by Dionigi in the 71st minute.

Last draw on November 23, 2008. Napoli 2 - 2 Cagliari. Gols by Marek Hamsik, Lopez, Lavezzi and Daniele Conti.

Last victory from Cagliari on August 26, 2007.  Napoli 0 - 2 Cagliari. Gols by Alessandro Matri and Foggia.

I agree with Napoli captain Paolo Cannavaro that right now Napoli must focused in running the sprint to be in Europe, in the big show be it the Europa League or the Champions League.

Here is the disciplinary situation.   One suspended player for NAPOLI: Fabio Quagliarella.  Four players carrying one yellow card: Zuniga, Grava, Pazienza and Ezequiel Lavezzi.

No suspended players for CAGLIARI.  Three players carrying one yellow card: Andrea Cossu, Agostini, and Jeda.

Hereis the probable formation for NAPOLI (3-4-2-1): MorganDeSanctis, Santacroce, Paolo Cannavaro,  Grava, Hugo Campagnaro,Pazienza,WalterGargano, Zuniga,  Marek Hamsik, German Denis, and Ezequiel  Lavezzi.

Luigi Ferraris  Stadium
Italy Serie A Standing:  Genoa  8th position, 48 points
                                         Lazio 16th position, 37points

What's going on with Lazio all the way down to the 16th position???   We are used to see Lazio at least among the top 10 teams. Lazio need a total make over, a rebuilt...  Losing the Derby della Capitale against city rival AS ROMA was a major slap to the morale of the team.  Here is now the chance for Lazio to wake up and grab 3 away points.  Can they do it?

Here is the probable formation  for LAZIO (3-5-2):FernandoMuslera, Dias, Radu,  Stephan Lichtsteiner, Cristian Brocchi,  Baronio, Kolarov, Del Nero,  Rocchi, Mauri, and Sergio Floccari.

Anna Italia Prediction:  GENOA

Renato Dall'Ara  Stadium
Italy Serie A Standing:  Bologna 17th  position, 36 points
                                          Parma 10th position, 46 points

The match for salvation for Bologna.  A defeat will put Bologna in  the relegation area if Atalanta defeat Inter.  Atalanta having 34 points.

Here is the probable formation from BOLOGNA (4-3-1-2): Viviano,Raggi, Portanova, Moras,Lanna, Antonio Busce', Mudingayi, Modesto, Adailton Martins, Zalayeta,  and Marco Di Vaio

Here is the probable formation for PARMA (4-4-2): Mirante,Christian Zaccardo, Paci, Dellafiore, Castellini,  Valiani,Jimenez, Antonelli, Galloppak,  Valeri Bojinov, and Jonathan Biabiany.

Talking about keeping the race for the Scudetto alive!   AS Roma are unbeaten in 24 games and the super boost to their morale was defeating Inter... now the big hurdle will be to defeat Sampdoria with ex Roma forward Antonio Cassano.   A draw will put in danger Roma's leadership and Inter might take the leadership if defeating Atalanta.  This is why Roma is obliged to win this match.    Roma and Inter will meet again for the Coppa Italia TIM Final on May 5, 2010.

Sampdoria heading to the Olimpico for a victory to keep the 4th position and not giving away their spot to be in the Champions League.  A defeat can bring them down to the 5th position if Palermo defeat AC Milan.

Top scorer for AS Roma this season is forward Mirko Vucinic with 13 goals while for Sampdoria it is forward Giampaolo Pazzini with 15 gols.

Here is the disciplinary situation.  No suspended players for ROMA.  Three players carrying one yellow card: John Arne Riise, Mirko Vucinic and Cassetti.

No suspended players for SAMPDORIA.  Five  players carrying one yellow card: Tissone, Antonio Cassano, Rossi, Giampaolo Pazzini, and Lucchini.

Guys, I really don't know WHO CAN REVIVE JUVENTUS!!!!!!!!!  Juventus in the 7th position and risking being out not only of the Champions League next season, but also from the Europa League if keeping losing games....   Veramente un tormentone!!!   Now, the latest transfer markets adding pressure to the existing tense moment of "the OLD LADY... a very old lady."

Rumors from goalkeeper Gigi Buffon and forward David Trezeguet maybe leaving at the end of the season.. plus rumors of Alessandro Del Piero  joining an MLS team ... oh welll...  what matters right now is for Juventus to save some face and at least win the remaining 4 games...  OUCH.. it won't be easy because the last match of the season is against AC MILAN... another inconsistent team this season.... both will want  a victory..

Simply put, Juventus must win against BARI, period.  Really?  yep!  Ok, but don't expect AS BARI to just go with a defeated mentality to the Olimpico.  Bari will battle for an important victory... a historical victory to defeat the "once almighty" Juve....

Here is the disciplinary situation.  Two suspended players for JUVENTUS: Felipe Melo and Mohamed Sissoko.  Five players carrying one yellow card:  Giorgio Chiellini, Marchisio, Diego, Salihamidzic, and Alessandro Del Piero.

Two suspended players for AS BARI: A. Masiello, and Gazzi.   Four players carrrying one yellow card:  Belmonte, Bonucci, Donati, and Koman.

Here is the probable formationfor JUVENTUS (4-3-1-2):  Gianluigi Buffon, Zebina,  Nicola Legrottaglie, Giorgio Chiellini, Paolo De Ceglie, Camoranesi,  Christian Poulsen, Marchisio, Diego,Amauri, and Alessandro Del Piero.

Here is the probableformation for AS BARI (4-4-2): Gillet, Belmonte,  Stellini,  Bonucci,  Parisi, Alvarez,  Donati, Almiron, Koman, Paulo Barreto, and Castillo.

It's time for Juventus to avenge the defeat in Bari on Week 16 when Bari humiliated Juventus with a result Bari 3 - 1 Juventus. goals by Riccardo Meggiorini, Paulo Barreto and Sergio Almiron with the only gol for Juve by David Trezeguet.
