Serie A Standing: Fiorentina 10th position, 34 points
AC Milan 3rd position, 48 points
Here are the declarations made by AC Milan coach Leonardo in a press conference at the Centro Sportivo Milanello ahead of the RECOVERED Week 17 Fiorentina-Milan on Wednesday, February 24, 2010.
ON THE MATCH AT BARI
"During the season Milan
played a number of good matches. At Bari Milan played a different kind
of football, there was more concreteness in not giving anything away, we
struck at the right moments thanks to the knowledge of our strengths
and Bari's. Making a balance of the season, until today, Milan have
played some very good games."
ON RONALDINHO
"I think it's normal for a
player to have ups and downs during his career. As for Ronaldinho, it
was never an objective to see the Ronaldinho of Barcelona, but to see
Ronaldinho at his best for what he can do now. I think he's doing very
well and with his great talent he is helping us a lot."
ON THE MATCH AGAINST FIORENTINA
"I think it's
better for Milan to be facing Fiorentina tomorrow instead of in
December, because before Christmas there were strange conditions like
the snow and the Christmas break coming up. The preparation of the match
itself in December was strange because until a few hours before the
game it was uncertain whether we would play or not. Tomorrow only Milan,
Fiorentina, Cagliari and Udinese will come on the pitch. Now Milan are
doing well and that's the most important thing."
ON THE LEAGUE TABLE
"It's normal to look at
Milan's journey since the start of the season and feel some regret for
certain results. I'm not just referring to the six points lost in the
derbies, but there are also other games which have brought us valuable
lessons. The current situation in the table confirms that we are having a
good season, both from the point of view of our position and of how
we've played. If we win tomorrow in Florence we'll still have to take it
slow, and see where this team can go, game after game.
I'm not sure what's more difficult between beating Manchester and
catching Inter on top of the table, they are different things. The
match against Manchester is unique, we need to win well. The league
chase behind Inter in the league is like running a long distance and
that always depends on the team's condition.
I don't think the
victory in Bari was different from other situations which have happened
this year. This team has always shown it's humble and intelligent in
many situations. The players have been the real protagonists this year.
Ronaldinho
perhaps experienced this in a more profound way compared to the others
because he was coming off a complicated situation, but in any case all
the players with their will and availability made the difference in our
season."
ON THE EPISODES CONCERNING INTER IN THE MATCH AGAINST
SAMPDORIA
"I don't have enough information to judge the
situation and I don't want to talk about it."
ON HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH CARLO ANCELOTTI AND THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE
"I
speak to Carlo every day, we talk about many things, not just football.
I am very close to him and his results, I have been part of his history
for a long time. I cheer for Carlo.
However Italian football needs a
big victory and to give great messages: the Champions League might give
us the chance to send positive messages abroad. If an Italian team
progresses we should all be happy because a Champions League final with
an Italian team is always fascinating.
From my part, however, I
won't be cheering against Inter."
ON ALBERTO GILARDINO AND MARCO BORRIELLO, TOMORROW'S OPPONENTS, THE CALL
UPS TO THE NATIONAL TEAM
"Marcello Lippi has a difficult
task, he's had his idea for many years, he has already made a winning
group, in which he has to insert the players who are doing well right
now."
ON STRIKER ADRIANO
"I am happy for him, he's doing
better and I think he could improve. We know his history. He is 27 and
can still do many things in football. If his desire is to return to
Europe and get back to great football, I am happy for him. I wouldn't
know about him at Milan, however, we already have many Brazilian
players, for many of them Milan is a dream."
ON A POSSIBLE CHOICE BETWEEN DANIELE BONERA AND MAREK JANKULOVSKI
"I
have to evaluate the situation and take into account the tiredness of
the players who came back at 3am from the match at Bari and are now
facing another game immediately.
I'm happy with how Jankulovski has
handled this period, it wasn't easy. At Bari he came in well. Also
Bonera was extraordinary, he played four matches in different roles and
I'm happy with his performances. It wasn't easy to come back after a
long injury."
ON THE GOALKEEPERS
"When a player is replaced
due to a technical choice, the one who's replaced is often considered
finished. However, choices are also made because it's thought that the
player who is inserted can give something particular to a specific game.
This year all of the goalkeepers have been injured, and making a
balance, Dida has had a fine season, and he's still available. Abbiati
is coming back after a long injury and by saving the penalty against
Bari he consacrated his return. Also Storari is doing well at Sampdoria. My
choice, however, is not definitive."

to me Ronaldinho is perhaps the best player ever...too bad his party habits dont let him play to the full potential, i would do the same if i were in his shoes, its just sad for the fans though
