Grab your snacks because the declarations from AC Milan Coach Leonardo are long as he talks about almost everything on the eve of the Italian Serie A Week 13 against Cagliari on Sunday, November 22, 2009 in San Siro Stadium.
Clash against Cagliari, coach Leonardo, during the press conference at Milanello, spoke about how useful the break was, the situation of the individuals and his rapport with the players.
MILANELLO – These are the declarations of coach Leonardo during the press conference on the eve of Milan-Cagliari as reported by Milan official website:
ON THE NATIONAL TEAM PLAYERS
“Speaking egoistically, being able to have the players here is not a negative thing. Even in the past the break was useful to recover some injuries and to have some good training sessions. It’s a positive thing, but we are still close to a World Cup and for a player to go to the national team is important. Thiago Silva has just been there and I think that he was satisfied of what he did and I believe that in the future there can also be the opportunity for Ronaldinho and Pato.”
ON MIDFIELDER DAVID BECKHAM
“Since he left, we have always maintained contacts with David Beckham and he remained in contact with many people of this environment. Right now he is ending an important part of his career and we are all very close to him.”

ON THE MATCH AGAINST CAGLIARI
“Cagliari is a team which plays good football and who are coming from important results. Tomorrow’s game will be an interesting one.”
Official Called Up Players for AC MILAN - CAGLIARI for the Italian Serie A Week 13 on Sunday, November 22, 2009
ON HENRY’S HANDBALL GOAL
“We are going towards something different. So far there has been no rule which allows the referee to be more decisive in certain situations. It’s difficult to judge the player inside such a particular situation. We are moving closer to video replays, the use of technology on the pitch and I think that soon we will be close to a solution for these problems, because the introduction of such instruments will allow the referee to judge. Many episodes, even in the past, have occurred which were difficult to judge.”
ON THE USEFULNESS OF THE BREAK
“If this break can be useful like the previous one we will find out in every game. Playing a game every three days there are pros and cons, the same thing for the break. We will have to return on the pitch with the same spirit and concentration that we had in the block which ended before the break.”
ON MIDFIELDER GENNARO GATTUSO’S RETURN
“Every thing that happens must be evaluated at that moment. I’m calm, today he injured, I have with him a very direct rapport. He has a lot of will to return and I don’t think that there will be rotation problems in the moment in which we will have available all the players.”
ON HIS RAPPORT WITH THE PLAYERS
“A role of responsibility like mine implies a bit of everything, I don’t know if it’s possible but we must find the key to understand everything: give the right motivations, we must try to put the player in the best possible condition to give his best.
“At the start we had many things to fix and to recover, the defensive department had a lot of things to try. There was the idea of reorganizing a bit everything, but so far I’m very happy thinking about the performances of Oddo and Zambrotta, think about the growth which we will see during the games of Abate and Antonini. These are all signs of great availability of the players and for a coach these are the best things.”
ON THE TACTICS
“Often it’s difficult to give a number to the tactics, you can define the tactics according to the lines or according to the departments of the squad. However, there’s a lot of desire for a nice game, then the team fields itself depending on many things.
“With my little experience in this role, I think that we must start from a base, an idea, then things will present themselves one at a time and you must make modifications which adapt to the moment because it can happen a fever which can revolutionize everything. There are many variables to have a fixed idea. The spirit, however, is that of a team who wants to hurt, but then things can change according to what is happening.
“Whoever has a tactic tries to impose his rhythm and risks a lot. However, I’m happy of the way in which we play, the approach to the game and the involvement of the players, then if we concede a goal more it is just an individual episode. If we maintain this way of playing, results will arrive.”

ON THE MANAGEMENT OF MIDFIELDES ANDREA PIRLO AND CLARENCE SEEDORF
“I don’t think that it’s something to think about now, because once we found a balance we play in a less tiring manner. Once we found this balance, we must then go forward, if then it will be necessary to affect a turnover, we will find alternatives which we would have available.”
COMPARISION WITH LAST SEASON
“Today’s Milan is a Milan side of great enthusiasm, there’s a lot of involvement. Today the players have an involvement which if we keep it up, it can lead this team to reach something.”
ON THE INDIVIDUALS
“I think that Ronaldinho will recover for tomorrow, he had a fever state which unfortunately in these days it is going around, even Oddo had it five days ago.
Flamini twisted his ankle a bit during Wednesday’s training session and will not recover for tomorrow unfortunately.
Strasser and Markel from the Primavera team will be called-up, then we will evaluate how to manage the bench.
Gattuso will have a weekend of tests to see how he is, but he is recovering, he lost a bit of time, but he is recovering. We must not hurry him up.
Di Gennaro is currently with the Primavera, after this period where he did not play, playing for 90 minutes can be useful and we can then evaluate his condition.”

ON INZAGHI’S RENEWAL
“The attachment that Inzaghi has with the club is deep and I don’t think that for him it’s a problem the renewal, for the way I see him charged up on the pitch, I think he is calm and does not think about it.”
AC Milan goalkeeper MARCO STORARI
ON THE GOALKEEPERS
“We spoke with Abbiati, he is returning after all these months and the next step will be that of helping him find the match form, therefore he will continue his preparation to return for the game at his best. We shall find some game situations to have him regain the right concentration. Even Storari has recovered. Dida is very well. They are all players of great experience and we shall evaluate the situation at the moment.”
ON THE SUBSCRIPTIONS
“You cannot ask for favours from the fans. The only appeal which we can make is to play. Little by little if there will be involvement from the fans for what we are doing that’s good, because everyone knows how important the support of your public is.”
