All rumors about Brazilian born and Juventus forward Amauri on taking a spot in the Italian National team this year are only rumors.  Amauri will be able to become an Italian citizen after March 5, 2010. It means Amauri will not be considered for called up in the last friendly match of the Italian National team on March 3, 2010.

Here is the thing guys.  It is true as Sampdoria forward Giampaolo Pazzini declared that Amauri does not have  Italian heritage. So how in the world is he getting a citizenship?  Well, Amauri is getting an Italian citizenship because he has lived and played in Italy for over 5 years and after his Brazilian born wife  obtained an Italian citizenship on March 2009, Amauri then qualified for the citizenship by marriage.

The issue of Amauri joining the Italian National team while excluding until now a called up for Sampdoria forward Antonio Cassano is creating discomfort among fans. However, it is not only about Cassano but if Lippi has only 5 or 6 available positions, then, we have to consider whether it will be fair to leave out Alessandro Del Piero, Giampaolo Pazzini,  Fabio Quagliarella, Antonio Di Natale or who else of the forwards to give a place to Amauri who has not played any of the qualifier matches. 

 Personally, I will say that selection should be based on current performances and not personal reasons.  Moreover, the fact of the group also should play a key factor on who can bring more unity to the group and not division or uneasiness...  let's keep the ball rolling..... what do you think?
 
Bottom line,  if any of the Italian born or half Italians are playing better than Amauri and yet not called up, then, expect a lot of protests from fans.  Imagine all the ongoing pro Cassano.... wow, what a bad way to make his way to the National team from Amauri who previously was called up  for the friendly match against Italy by Brazil Head Coach Dunga for on January 31, 2009 when Luis Fabiano got injured. Although it was ex Juventus president Cobolli Gigli to announce the club was not giving permission to Amauri to accept the called up.

Bottom line,  Amauri did not respond to the called up. Amauri's mother Janette Oliveira even advising his son to choose Italy  as declared in the Brazilian website Terra: "Amauri's dream is to play for  Brazil,  but to be honest, I think he should play for Italy because this country has given him so much." Point is  that Amauri was called up only because Luis Fabiano was injured.





                   


A similar case is with ex Juventus forward Angelo Sormani who was also Brazilian born and italian naturalized.   Sormani played for the Italian National team making 7 appearances from 1962 to 1963 and scoring 2 goals.  Interesting in his declarations from  November 16, 2009 in Repubblica, he responded to journalist Silvia Scotti  that he did not know the anthem of Italy but only that of Brazil. However, he played for Italian in a match against Brazil and he even scored for Italy.    Sormani played for Italy in May 1963 against Brazil and scored the first goal, Final result Italy 3 - 0 Brazil.

Sormani is in favor of Amauri playing for the Azzurri  while he thinksit will be nice for players to play for their respective national teamswe are living in a globalized world.
