In memory of Candido Cannavò, the historic chief editor of LaGazzetta dello Sport who died last March, and who wanted thisrecognition to remember the great player, manager and president ofInter, the prize was given to Prandelli this morning in the DinoBuzzati hall at the headquarters of the RCS Quotidiani publishinggroup. Prandelli is the fourth winner of the award after Paolo Maldiniin 2008, Younis Mahmoud Khalaf in 2007 and Julio Gonzalez in 2006.

Prandelli, who was presented with a bronze sculpture and a cheque for 10,000 euros that he chose to give to the Umberto Veronesi Foundation for the research and cure of tumours, was chosen as the winner by a jury composed of CONI president Gianni Petrucci, Gianfelice Facchetti (who was a 'pupil' of Prandelli in the Atalanta academy) and La Gazzetta dello Sport's current chief editor Carlo Verdelli.

"I feel very embarrassed. I don't think Ideserve such an important prize. I'm honoured and I hope to be equal toit, though I think Gianfelice influenced the jury...,"said Cesare Prandelli

Gianfelice Facchetti remembered Candido Cannavò in his speech. "Ican't not think of him because the fact that I'm awarding he who was mycoach when I was little is one of those nice things that Candido like dreading in a newspaper," he said. "I am happy that this award goes to Prandelli. He is a unique person and he deserves it all."

The moderator of the event was Daniele Radaelli. In attendance were Lega Calcio president Maurizio Beretta, Italian FA president Giancarlo Abete, Franco Carraro, FC Internazionale managing director Ernesto Paolillo and AC Milan vice president Adriano Galliani. Giovanna Facchetti and Franca Cannavò joined Massimo Moratti and Gianni Petrucciin presenting Prandelli with the award.

Previous winners: The first edition in 2006 went to Julio Gonzalez, the Paraguayan and former Vicenza player who returned to football after losing his arm as the result of a car accident. In 2007, the prize was given to Younes Mahmoud Khalef, captain of the Iraq national team that won the Asia Cup. Paolo Maldini, the AC Milan captain, won the 2008edition.
