Covering the 2010 World Cup Qualifier South Africa from an Italian Perspective

Oops, somebody was really mad after the 2010 World Cup Qualifier Europe Group 8
Italy 3 - 2 Cyprus.  Yep! Guys, at the end of the match during the interview by RAI from Carlo Paris to Italy Head coach Marcello Lippi, BOOM you could hear the explosion, outburst from Lippi against some fans who were yelling the name of other players, which was "Antonio Cassano."  I am including the video so you guys can watch it.

Paris indicating that Cyprus coach congratulating Lippi.

Lippi said we earned mathematically the qualification in Dublin on Saturday, and you could imagine it was a great joy. Now, I changed the entire squad for another 11 players, a thing nobody did in the world.  We are the World Cup champion. We come here to play a game that really did not count and when we had some difficulty which was normal because these players never played together.  the fans instead of motivating these players and encouraging  them while acknowledging what they had done starts to yell the name of other players or saying  to start working. this is a shame. The people should love more this national team."

Guys, let's put it this way, Lippi is right to protest but also the fans are freely to express themselves. Don't you think?  Anyway, in the first half Italy did not show control of the game but were losing.  Sure, I give credit  to Lippi that he dared to change all 11 players to give playing time to those who have not played much as Italy already qualified.  However, I might also say that only a group were calling the name of Cassano not the entire stadium because you would have listened to it clearly and I was watching the game in the Italian Channel RAI ITALIA.

I applaud the efforts from the Azzurri in the last 20 minutes of the second half not giving up and somehow the inspiration from Italy and Fiorentina forward Alberto Gilardino making a hat trick. Thumbs up for Gilardino.

Here is the thing guys and I don't know if you agree or not with me.  The Azzurri did qualify for the 2010 World Cup and I applaud them, but I also say that we never saw a convincing victory, consistent game.  This does not mean that I don't respect the efforts of the actual national team but as a fan I feel free to say when the team plays well or not.   I do hope Italy now will stop struggling to win and win like champions in a convincing way, for example like Spain.   It's time to see Italy being a strong protagonist as defending World Cup champions, don't you think? I DO.
