It's one more day for the final qualifying match for the 2010 World Cup South Africa and such a good feeling knowing ITALY already qualified leading Group 8 with 21 points followed by the Republic of Ireland with 17 points.
Guys, it is the third training day of Italy National team in Coverciano and a happy mood even by Italy Head Coach Marcello Lippi doing "capriole" show. Wow, turning a gymnast now? LOL. Hey, I am loving to see the camaraderie among our guys.
Tuesday, October 13 - Martedì 13 Ottobre 2009 h. 10.30 Italian National Team training (open to the press) / Allenamento (aperto alla stampa)
After training Press Conference with coach and players / Al termine incontro con la stampa (CT + Calciatori)
h. 17.30 Departure in pullman to Parma / Partenza bus per Parma
- Italy and Juventus goalkeeper trained separately and most likely will not play tomorrow against Cyprus. Lippi might use Cagliari goalkeeper Federico Marchetti in the starting lineup. Buffon continues training despite suffering from meniscus.
Here is the probable formation for the Italian National team against Cyprus:
Goalkeeper: Federico Marchetti
Defenders: Davide Santon, Salvatore Bocchetti, Fabio Cannavaro, Alessandro Gamberini
Midfielders: Gennaro Gattuso, Gaetano D'Agostino, Simone Pepe,
Forwards: Giuseppe Rossi, Fabio Quagliarella, Alberto Gilardino
- Lippi says that "Against Cyprus 11 different players will play compared to those who played last Saturday. I had promised the group that if we qualify with a match earlier I would make play everybody and I am sustaining my word. "
- About Totti, Lippi says, "he is a great person and a great footballer. I am sure there will be tormentoni until June." Bottom line guys, Lippi is not closing the door to anybody but thinking towards the World Cup. The only one who seems the road difficult to be called up is Sampdoria forward Antonio Cassano who keeps getting more public support and pressure for Lippi to keep responding why he has not called him.
Oh well, so let's see what is going on. It seems now that the new topic en vogue is no longer Antonio Cassano but "the possible return from AS Roma forward Francesco Totti" to the National team. Yep! Everybody is talking about it including Italy forward Giuseppe Rossi.

Here is what Rossi said, "The eventual return from Francesco Totti to the National team won't be a burden. For us, the younger players it is always nice to play next to the great champions. I have 22 years old and a long way to make my experience."
Hey, I love it how Rossi ackowledges what Totti has done and how he as a youngster still have to build his experience. By the way, I have no doubt Giuseppe Rossi will be one of our future great champions.
Regarding being in the starting lineup in the match against Cyprus, Rossi commented, "It will be an important test for many of us. The objective is to win and play well. For me, it will be like returning home to Parma where I stayed for over 5 years."
Guys, Rossi played in the youth team of Parma from 2000 - 2004. In 2007 Rossi played with Parma first team on loan making 19 appearances and scoring 9 gols.
