Thursday, October 8 - Giovedì 8 Ottobre 2009
h.  13.30 ca   Press Conference with players  / Incontro con la stampa (Calciatori)
h. 16.30    Italian National Team training (open to the press for the first 15 minutes) / Allenamento (aperto alla stampa per i primi 15 minuti)

- Guys, based on the training Italy Head Coach Marcello Lippi will play against Ireland with the 4-2-3-1 formation.

Here is the probable formation: Gianluigi Buffon, Gianluca Zambrotta, Nicola Legrottaglie, Giorgio Chiellini, Mauro Camoranesi, Danielel De rossi, Angelo Palombo, Mauro Camoranesi, Andrea Pirlo, Antonio Di Natale, Vincenzo Iaquinta.

-  Lippi putting his trust on Juventus forward Vincenzo Iaquinta leading the attack while leaving Giuseppe Rossi and Fiorentina forward Alberto Gilardino in the bench.  It might be that Lippi if qualifying on Saturday, will use Rossi and Gilardino on the match against Cyprus.

================

- Press conference with Italy and Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon who will be Italy captain in the absence of Fabio Cannavaro.

  In reference to play against Ireland the team coached by Italian and former coach of Italy Giovanni Trapattoni, Buffon commented: "Coaches like him, Maldini,or Zoff had the ability not only to dealwith the squad but dealing with players beacuse they were footballers it will be difficult to repeat characters like them.  They lived another football and brought their experience to the field.  Trap is a man that has won a lot, but most of all leaving his mark.

On current Italy head coach Marcello Lippi, Buffon said, "Lippi has a different character.Trapattoni was more calm, laugh more but even he had his tough moent.  Lippi, like Capello and Ancelotti are technically more prepared, they are all unique."

Against ireland, "we will find a strong opponent, they will give us a tough moment.  We have to be prepared. It will make us happy to qualify on Saturday. If it had to finish with a score 6-6, I won't sign because it will mean that I would have conceded six goals. Yet, a good match ending with a draw but playing well, I can sign it immediately.

Regarding the rumors of the return of Marcello Lippi to Juventus after the 2010 World Cup, Buffon says that "at his age and experience, he is not surprised anymore.  However, I think is premature to talk about it. I know Lippi is  very professional and he is concentrated right now only on the World Cup.
