ON THE MATCH AGAINST LIVORNO

“Tomorrow’s game at Livorno will be a different game to the one of Siena because in these two weeks which preceded this clash we have worked without the national team players. Siena’s match was prepared with the entire squad. However, Livorno is a team which plays more or less like Siena, we will still be in Tuscany, but every game has its own story.”

ON THE TACTICS AND ANDREA PIRLO’S POSITION

“With Andrea I spoke a lot during this period on his role. His use in Milan is different to the one with the Azzurri because with the national team there are still different players. At first there was half an idea to play him like in the national team, but for tomorrow’s game there are still many things to see.

 “The tactics to use will vary according to the players’ characteristics, I think that today more than before we have the possibility of changing men and this allows us to have various game solutions.

“The games which we will have to face are a lot and we will surely change something on the pitch, but we have various alternatives and I repeat, Andrea can cover many roles.

“With the national team Pirlo played a great game, playing differently than here at Milan. I think that it is something to evaluate calmly and see which are the possible solutions for the future.

“There was a lot of talk about the full-backs, we tried to give more push to this role. We have available players who know perfectly well their duty and are available when called to take their position on the pitch.”

ON MILAN’S MOMENT

“Now we start an intensive series of games which we need to manage. During the training sessions I see the team and players, who stayed here during this break, do well, as well as those who played for their national teams. They returned well. We have many consecutive games which we need to manage at our best. The last game was very difficult for us and we return in the league with a lot of will to be close to the top teams, it’s an important moment in the league, but also because on Tuesday the Champions League starts.

“This team, once it has met, had a positive approach also in the game against Inter. Surely a defeat always some traces, but this is a very experienced team. I’m calm: I see the team in a positive way, we worked well and I think that the squad is alive. On the use of the attackers I think that the management of the period is fundamental: we must manage the strength and mood well, and I think that the team is aware of this. This surely facilitates my management, because I know what we must face from now until the next break. There are many games, each one of them has its own story.

“Inside the team there’s the right tension. Even during training this morning, it was positive and these are all signs which make me happy. Going forward thinking always about what happened. We must not forget the derby, because it can be useful to remedy to certain errors. Our moment is not the game against Inter, of which we only remember the result, but we are improving little by little.

“We have always scored and suffered many goals. We must surely find the concreteness from the defensive level and I think that it is the main thing for the Italian league. We go forward with our work, constantly trying also many exercises on the set-pieces, but only the continuous work can be useful to find the remedy to suffer fewer goals.”

ON THE INDIVIDUAL PLAYERS

“Inzaghi and Seedorf are fine. Inzaghi, in particular, is serene and has the same hunger and will of when he had 11 years of age. However, the choices are made match after match. Pippo has an incredible motivation which allows him to do all he did in his career, our rapport is transpired and he is an important player for us. Even though Huntelaar arrived, we make the right evaluations, but Inzaghi is a player no one can discuss.

"The players know how we play and the players must be available to do what is best for the team. A great player, like Huntelaar, adapts to the situations, then clearly tries to meet halfway to the characteristics of the same players. However he is an attacker, a striker and will be used like that."

"He is training, he already played as a right back and I cannot deny that I think he can play anywhere. Gattuso has trained. He returned from injury after six months, then he had highs and lows due to the problems to his knee. “The procedure of the bench is clear to everyone. In that occasion a series of things happened which brought us to this situation. I already spoke and told Gattuso and Seedorf what I think. Even they spoke to each other. The following Monday everything was already solved.”

    

ON SILVIO BERLUSCONI

“I always talk to Silvio Berlusconi. The president a public figure and due to his job he is forced to respond to everybody’s questions. With him I speak, listen and then confront myself. I have my ideas, he has his and his declarations don’t upset me. I have no embarrassment because I know the declarations which come out on the newspapers, because the confrontation we have happens regularly. We live for Milan and think that about the president as Milan president. I have been here for 12 years and I don’t see anything different to the past, despite today he is the prime-minister. A fundamental thing of this club is the consistency.”

ON THE CRITICISM AFTER THE DERBY

“They accused me to be inexperienced, but I think that this was the most obvious criticism that could be made about me. It’s simply a fact and even if we had won the derby 5-0, the day after they could have written the same thing. Obviously these are the pros and cons of this career in my position. I go forward serenely and even being criticized I know that this helps to grow from the personal level. This experience is a continuous emotion and I live on emotions.”
