LAZIO - FC JUVENTUS
Olimpico Stadium di RomaStadium
Serie A Standing:
  Lazio 4th position, 6 points
FC Juventus 2nd position, 6 points

Hello, hello, hello... guys, this is a match not to miss.  Lazio and Juventus are head to head batting for the first position.  A victory can keep the leadership depending on the results of Sampdoria and Genoa who also share the same 6 points.

We could say that Juventus will have maybe the most tired players, especially the 7 participating in the Italian National team for the 2010 World Cup Qualification: Gigi Buffon, Marchisio, Mauro Camoranesi, Fabio Grosso, Giorgio Chiellini, Fabio Cannavaro, and Vincenzo Iaquinta.  Though, it is also true that they should be motivated enough to go grab the 3 points from Lazio in the Olimpico.

Lazio will have the benefit that goalkeeper Fernando Muslera despite being called up for Uruguay did not play. So, he should be ok.
Lazio is facing a difficult moment right now with forward Tommaso Rocchi injured and even Mauro Zarate might miss the match.  Rocchi injured during today's training when clashing with his teammate Berni, pain around the knee, right leg. Zarate still undergoing medical treatment after the match against Zaragoza.

So, it means that Ballardini will use Pandev? hum?!  Is not like Pandev is in honeymoon terms with Lazio after even threating to take them to court....  Other option for Ballardini will be to use Argentinian forward Julio Cruz next to Foggia? .....

Juventus might also try players who were not busy with their national teams to give them time to recover and be ready for the Champions League game against Bordeaux on Tuesday, September 15.

Juventus, is coming to this match energized and with Amauri, Alessandro Del Piero and David Trezeguet rested as neither were called up by their national teams.  Bottom line guys, if Juventus beat Lazio with more than one goal they might be the leader of the Serie A..... unless Genoa and Sampdoria score more goals.

Here is the probable formation for Lazio: Fernando Muslera, Lichsteiner, Diakite, Siviglia, Kolarov, Dabo, Baronio, Mauri, Matuzelem, Julio Cruz, and Foggia.

Here is the probable formatoin for FC Juventus: Gigi Buffon, Zdenek Grygera, Fabio Cannavaro, Giorgio Chiellini, De Ceglie, Mauro Camoranesi, Felipe Melo, Marchisio, Diego, Amauri, and David Trezeguet.

LIVORNO - AC MILAN

Artemio Franchi Stadium
Serie A Standing:
AS Livorno 15th position, 1 point
AC Milan 9th position, 3 points

The challenge for Livorno to beat the rossoneri and climb the ladder of the Serie A.    Fact is that AC Milan is not the same strong team of few years ago where almost everybody used to tremble... not anymore.   Milan has become an inconsistent team and definitely not a top shot, unless, things change....

It is obvious that Ronaldinho has not been able to deliver the "expected hope from President Berlusconi" to be the "KAKA" of the squad.  Milan lacks a leader, someone who can score...  Not everything is lost because midfielders Andrea Pirlo and Gennaro Gattuso seem recovering from their respecting injuries.   Pirlo having a great match yesterday with the Italian National team and even making the "precision assist" for the goal of Fabio Grosso.

Big question mark is the "goalkeeper' situation.  Christian Abbiati the most experienced is still injured.  Dida not at his best lastely. So, the only hope is
goalkeeper Marco Storari while AC Milan coach Leonado still have to test goalkeeper Flavio Roma.

Advantage is that none of Milan forwards were called up by Brazil, so Ronaldinho and Pato might be ready without injuries.  Klaas Jan Huntelaar playing for Netherlands during the 2010 World Cup qualifiers made a good impression  Th
e one not making a good impression was defender Kakha Kaladze  scoring the 2 own goals  against his  country while giving the victory to Italy.

Anyway, Livorno and Milan have played 34 times in the Serie A.  Milan winning 15 times, including winning 6 times in Livorno.  10 draw while Livorno have only won only 7 times.  Total goals also in favor of Milan with 55 goals while Livorno scoring only 36.

Get this one, guys, last time Livorno beat AC Milan was on January 23, 2005 with a goal by Corrado Colombo.  A good record for Livorno is knowing that the first victory in Serie A was against AC Milan on November 17, 1929 in the 7th round beating Milan 4-1. Last time AC Milan beat Livorno was on April 27, 2008 4-1 with a hattrick from Filippo SUPER Pippo Inzaghi and Clarence Seedorf. For Livorno the goal was by Knezevic.

Livorno might upset AC Milan and if there is a defeat expect some changes....

Here is the probable formation for AS Livorno: De Lucia, Perticone, Rivas, Miglionico, Diniz, Pulzetti, Filippini, Candreva, Moro, Tavano, and Lucarelli.

Here is the probable formation for AC Milan: Marco Storari, Gianluca Zambrotta, Alessandro Nesta, Thiago Silva, Marek Jankulovski, Mathieu Flamini, Andrea Pirlo, Massimo Ambrosini, Ronaldinho, Pato, and Klass Jan Huntelaar.

BOLOGNA - CHIEVO VERONA
Renato Dall'Ara Stadium
Serie A Standing:
  Bologna 13th position, 2 points
Chievo Verona 18th position 0 points

The flying donkeys better start flying to leave the "relegation area."  The least thing Chievo needs is to start the season already with the agonizing journey of saving themselves.

Bologna clearly in need of their top star forward Marco Di Vaio who was the second top scorer last season. Di Vaio has been injured but seems ready to start this week.  So, start waving your Bologna or Chievo flags to root for your teams.

Here is the probable formation for Bologna: Viviano, Raggi, Portanova, Britos, Zenoni, Mingazzini, Guana, Tedesco, Valiani, Marco Di Vaio, and Osvaldo.

Here is the probable formation for Chievo Verona: Sorrentino, Frey, Morero, Yepes, Mantovani, Luciano, Rigoni, Marcolini, Pinzi, Sergio Pellissier, and Erjon Bogdani.

FC INTER - PARMA
Giuseppe Meazza Stadium
Serie A Standing:
FC Inter 4th position, 4 points
                              Parma 5th position, 4 points

A direct match to unblock their position.  Inter and Parma having 4 points each. Inter has a better goal difference having a +4 while Parma has only a +1 goal difference.

Some of the international players already training with the squad including Mario Balotelli, Davide Santon and Rene Krhin.  Problem for Inter coach Jose Mourinho will be to have his South American group available until Friday: Julio Cesar, Maicon, Javier Zanetti, Diego Milito, and Honduras forward David Suazo. They are returning to Italy after their 2010 World Cup qualifier games with their respective countries.  By the way, Cristian Chivu and Dejan Stankovic will also start training until tomorrow Friday.

There might be a problem for Mourinho with midfielder Wesley Sneijder who got some minor injury while playing for Netherlands in the 2010 World Cup qualifier.  I think Mourinho rather give resting time to recover and use Patrick Vieira instead.  Also, Mourinho must be thinking on having a TOP and healthy formation ready for next week match against Barcelona for the UEFA Champions League game.

Midfielders Esteban Cambiasso and defender Marco Materazzi continue their recovery process.  Bottom line, guys, Inter can win this match but don't expect a submissive Parma.  As forward Alberto Paloschi says they are not afraid of Inter but will go to the Meazza to play their game and try to win.

Anyway even if Inter or Parma win, they still cannot be  leader of the groups as  will give them a total of 7 points while the quartet Sampdoria, Juventus, Genoa, and Lazio will try to keep the leadership by winning their respective games which will give them a total of 9 points.

Bottom line guys.... Parma is not afraid of Inter and heading to the Meazza to battle like the giants.  I can't wait to see in action Zaccardo and Christian Panucci again!  What a match....

Here is the probable formation for FC INTER: Julio Cesar, Maicon, Lucio, Walter Samuel, Javier Zanetti, Patrick Vieira, Dejan Stankovic, Thiago Motta, Sulley Muntari, Mario Balotelli, and Samuel Eto'o.

Here is the probable formation for PARMA: Antonio Mirante, Christian Panucci, Paci, Lucarelli, CHristian Zaccardo, Morrone, Mariga, Galloppa, Davide Lanzafame, Biabiany, and Alberto Paloschi.

UDINESE - CATANIA
Friuli  Stadium
Serie A Standing:
  Udinese 15th position, 1 point
                              Catania 17th position, 0 point

Problems with Udinese and injuries.  Midfielder Gokhan Inler who injured during the 2010 World Cup Qualifier matches playing for his country Switzerland might be out for another 2 weeks.  Coach Pasquale Marino will see in action new players Sammarco who transferred on a loan basis from Sampdoria.  Udinese forward Simone Pepe giving thumbs up  to Sammarco, Lodi and ready to win at home.

In the testing match today, Udinese beat 5 - 0 Manzanese with a brace from Lodi, Romero, Domizzi, and Youssou.  Resting for the match against Catania were the international players Simone Pepe, Antonio Di Natale and goalkeeper Handanovic.

Catania  if not winning will continue sinking and at this point even a draw will be positive for them.  Come on, better to bring home a 1 point than none.

Positive for Catania also having a practice match game today with the "Primavera / the younger players from the club" and winning 6 - 0.  Scoring a hattrick Morimoto, Mascara and Carboni converting penalty kicks, and another goal by Plasmati. So, both teams had their preparatory games with "goleada." Question is who will really score big time in this real game to grab the 3 points.  Can Morimoto score a hattrick or a brace at the Friuli?

Here is the probable formation for Udinese: Handanovic, Isla, Coda, Felipe, Domizzi, Sammarco, Gaetano D'Agostino, Lodi, Simone Pepe, Floro Flores, and Antonio Di Natale.

Here is the probable formation for Catania: Campagnolo, Potenza, Silvestre, Spolli, Pesce, Delvecchio, Carboni, Biagianti, Ricchiuti, Giuseppe Mascara, and Morimoto.

Catania coach Atzori really wants at least 2 goals!!!!

GENOA - NAPOLI
Luigi Ferraris Stadium
Serie A Standing:
  Genoa 3rd position, 6 points
                              Napoli 10th position, 3 points

Guys, there has been 48 games played away the San Paolo Stadium between Genoa and Napoli including games from the Serie a and Coppa Italia.  Here are the numbers:

21 victories for Genoa
18 draws
9 victories for Napoli
82 goals by Genoa
57 goals by Napoli

Last victory of Genoa against Napoli on October 5, 2008 3-2 goals from Genoa by Papastathoupoulos, Palladino and the ex Diego Milito while scoring for Napoli were Ezequiel Lavezzi and German Denis.

Last draw on June 10, 2007 in Serie B 0-0.
Last draw in Serie A on September 25, 1994 with a score of 3 - 3

Last victory by Napoli against Genoa in an away match in Serie A on January 19, 1992 with a score of 3-4.  Oh my gosh, imagine Napoli cannot beat Genoa at the Luigi Ferraris since 1992!!!! Can they do it now?  Hummmmmm  German Denis will have a golden moment to celebrate his birthday if winning and scoring !  Denis turned 28 years old on Thursday, October 10.

Here is Napoli Argentinian forward German Denis during training and ready to make a "wish" for his birthday...  can he deliver the winning goal against Genoa?

This is the probable formation for Genoa:  Marco Amelia, Papastathopoulos, Moretti, Biava, Rossi, Milanetto, Zapater, Domenico Criscito, Palacio, Figueroa, and Sculli.

Here is the probable formation for Napoli:Morgan De Sanctis, Hugo Campagnaro, Paolo Cannavaro, Contini, Maggio, Walter Gargano, Luca Cigarini, Marek Hamsik, Jesus Datolo, Fabio Quagliarella, and Ezequiel Lavezzi.

FIORENTINA - CAGLIARI
Artemio Franchi Stadium
Serie A Standing:
  Fiorentina 7th position, 4 points
                              Cagliari 14th position, 1 point

Honestly, I am surprised with the bad start from Cagliari who last season had an amazing experience.  Cagliari losing even at home last week  Winning at the Artemio Franchi Stadium will give a super boost to the morale of the squad to face FC Inter next week at the Sant'Elia.

Fiorentina will have on mind their UEFA Champions League match on Wednesday, September 16 against Olympique Lyon.  Though, Fiorentina cannot lose this match at home either.

What to say about the Roman gladiators?  Will you ever expected to see Roma in the bottom of the Serie A table with a big flat "0" and having -3 goal difference?  I Don't!  Actually, I refuse to believe Roma can remain in the bottom and they should start climbing the ladder before it is too late.  ''It's too bad coach Luciano Spalletti had to resign.  Now, the challenge is for the tactician Claudio Ranieri to raise the fallen spirit of the Roman gladiators.

Problem for Roma is they are playing an away game and Siena with the determination to win at home.  Hello, are you kidding me, is not that Siena is willing to lose. It will be a fierce battle and the best way for Ranieri to make his debut will be with a super convincing victory.

Good thing is that the Italian Ministry and the CASMS which is responsiblto guarantee teh safter at sports ground and sporting events reversed their decision by allowing Roma fans to travel to Siena and support their team.  There are only 1500 tickets available for Roma fans and they should present identity proof to get their tickets.

Click here to see the protests of Roma fans contesting AS Roma management and asking among many things the right to be with their squad during the match against Siena.

Around500 AS Roma Fans Contesting President Rosella Sensi Asking her toLeave, Applause only for Luciano Spalletti. Watch Video

Good thing for Roma is to see in shape Daniele De Rossi and even forward Mirko Vucinic who scored for his country in the 2010 World Cup Qualifier match.

Can AC Siena coach Giampaolo pick a winning formation to block the gladiators?  Will forward Maccarone be enough to blast Roma?

Here is the probable formation for AC Siena: Curci, Terzi, Ficagna, Brandao, Del Grosso, Vergassola, Codrea, Fini, Abdel Ghezzal, Emanuel Calaio', and Maccarone.

Here is the probable formation for AS ROMA:  Julio Sergio, Motta, Nicolas Burdisso, Philippe Mexes, John Arne Riise, Taddei, Daniele De Rossi, Pizarro, Simone Perrotta, Mirko Vucinic, and Francesco Totti.

PALERMO - AS BARI
Renzo Barbera Stadium
Serie A Standing:
  Palermo 8th position, 3 points
AS Bari 12th position, 2 points

Palermo coach Walter Zenga will have to work wonders with the offense.  Technically, Bari is one of the so-called small teams, yet, they have been giving a headache to their opponents.   Hope right now for Palermo is with forward Fabrizio Miccoli while Edison Cavani is returning from South America after playing for Uruguay National team in the World Cup qualifier.  A key player for Palermo is defender Simon Kjaer.

Question is how goalkeeper Rubinho will do... is he adapting to the squad?

Probable formation for Palermo: Rubinho, Cassani, Simon Kjaer, Bovo, Federico Balzaretti, Nocerino, Blasi, Mark Bresciano, Simplicio, Cavani, and Fabrizio Miccoli.

Probable formation for BARI: Gillet, Masiello, Ranocchia, Stellini, Parisi, Rivas, De Vezze, Gazzi, Langella, Meggiorini, and Kutuzov.

ATALANTA - SAMPDORIA
Atleti Azzurri D'Italia Stadium
Serie A Standing:
  Atalanta 19th position, 0 point
                              Sampdoria 1st position, 6 points

Hey guys, ex coach Luigi Del Neri returning to face his ex Atalanta!

Sampdoria is rocking the Serie A this week being the top leader, though sharing the spot with Genoa, Juventus, and Lazio.  One advantage for Sampdoria to win this match is the much acclaimed duo "Antonio Cassano and Giampaolo Pazzini," both ignored my Italy head coach Marcello Lippi in the last called up players fro the 2010 World Cup games against  Georgia and Bulgaria.

Sampdoria also motivated by the great performance from midfielder Angelo Palombo with the Italian National team.  Plus, Padalino and Marilungo being key players for the Italian Under 21 team.  Atalanta is not that strong in this early part of the season, losing both games.  The challenge is to win at home and might see forward Robert Acquafresca become a hero along Captain Cristiano Doni.
