How has everyone been? I hope everyone is well and I have missed our dysfunctional group. Guys, on May 7 I was proud to be a Trekkie and Wednesday night I was proud to be an American.
You better believe people knew where I was from. Even though I have been disappointed by the coverage here on the Southern part of Italy. Hey, it is the feast of San Pietro here and our town celebrates it big time.
Anyway I did get to see the Italian - Brazilian game which was a huge disappointment Italy 0 - 3 Brazil and I thought the Americans were helping out the Italians and when they said the semi finals included the Americans well I painted myself red, white, and blue and called myself Uncle Sam.
The Italian media called it a miracle and who would disagree? I stayed home to watch the game since there was very little interest from anyone here including the Italian game. Spain 0 - 2 USA I guess the Summer months during the off season no one pays much attention to soccer except maybe some of the old generation.
I gave up a night out on the little town I call bedrock to watch the Americans. I'm glad I did because it was the right decision. I could not believe how great the Americans played in the first 20 minutes. They had scoring chances and a solid defense. after they scored their first goal they tried the Italian National team strategy of defense which was one man up and everyone back. Also they took a page out of Inter by using the great wall defense plan which was mostly unbreakable.
Spain played fairly well, but I think they underestimated the Americans which would be a mistake. I was running jumping and screaming at every play. and when Torres lackadazicle sleepy defensive blunder ended up giving the states a 2 goal lead. Does anyone know of Anders Cantor??? I think he is the best Spanish/American soccer announcer and I love listening to him when he is on.
Anyway, I did my impression of him twice when the U.S. scored. I can't tell you how I felt. I was in tears actually believing the Americans can defeat the most winning team to date. You know I don't care who the Americans play on Sunday, I really don't. They have to believe they can win and play their best game and they will do well.
I'm sure Brazil wont underestimate the Americans. they have already played each other in the group stage and lets just say it was a cake walk for the Brazilians. Yet, this could be a different team on Sunday and winning would mean being the best in the world. Yeah. I know they won't be number 1 in FIFA point standings but those Statistics are misleading and not always correct.
If USA wins they should be considered the best in the world until the World Cup at least. Some think the Confederations Cup to be a generic of the World Cup and so do I. COME ON USA!!!
Anyway i will be watching this game on Sunday night and screaming louder than the bands will be playing at the piazza Sunday night. WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! baby 2 miracles and going for the triple crown Sunday. Are you guys with me?/????? Ok gotta go guys i hope I can establish another connection and check up on you guys before I leave Monday, if not I will see you in the States with cup in hand.
