"I want to win this tournament. If we win and are eliminated, I will be happy the same. It's always important to beat strong teams like Brazil. Egypt -USA? It will be balanced. Italy can beat Brazil, Spain, and again Brazil," Italy and Juventus goalkeeper Gigi Buffon




It's an open challenge for Brazil from Italy and Juventus goalkeeper Gigi Buffon. You bet Buffon is not happy at all seeing Italy in this situation depending on the last match to pass to the semifinals. Yet, this is the reality and I love how Buffon takes control of the situation by standing firmly even against the critics. 

Guys, Buffon said after the defeat against Egypt and waiting for Brazil, "Italy has never heen a country of the Champagne football, or technical, or that of easy victories like 6-0.  Our footbal is strong. Historically, Italy is a competitive  team that if they are physical well is almost impossible to beat. Though, it is a team struggling with all kind of adversaries, it has been like this  even in the World Cup where we won. Champagne football "Il calcio champagne" did not even work with Sacchi, this type of football can work for Brazil, Barcelona. We have never been Globetrotters, I don't see why it is asked now to have a champagne calcio."

Wow, guys, I was like HUM?!  What!!!  Really!!!!  Well, I agree with Buffon on the historical point that Italy usually is a team struggling to win and then comes a moment where BAMMM they take the top prize.  However, I would love to see more of a "champagne calcio."  Why does Italy have to struggle all the time?  I don't want this.  If players are not fit, why Italy Head Coach Marcello Lippi calls them?  Is not better to have a fit Italy to win convincingly and not struggle to win?  Your take guys?



Sure, as an Italian fan, I love my Azzurri either win or lose.  However, I AM CRAVING TO SEE ITALY PLAYING LIKE CHAMPIONS WITHOUT STRUGGLES. Can they do it?  YES, THEY CAN.

"Don't massacre Italy. We knew this Confederations Cup is a preparatory test for the World Cup and that there were going to be experiments. It is not fair to massacre the coach and the National team.  If things don't work out, Lippi will make his changes, we are always ready to change. Regarding teh 4-3-3 formation, we have been trying for  2 years even with Donadoni. It's not a novelty. Lippi can change it, if he sees that won't work. But, at least let's try it."  

Buffon continues saying, "The coach as opposed to the players, has a clear mentality to understand what is not working in the pitch as pre established. The knockout of the EURO  still hurts."  I agree with Buffon that experiments should be done carefully and not burn some of the young players. "To play in the National team it is not enough to have technical qualities, its necessary to have personality, experience. I did 2 years of panchina before playing in Nazionale until I got my opportunity."
