COUNTDOWN! One more day and Italy will play the first match of the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup in South Africa against the United States. No hesitations, no "IFS," but the 2006 World Cup Champions must show their might and whether they are ready to defend their title as World Champions next year too. Wow, guys, I am just all excited about this match and waving y Italian flag while singing "FRATELLI D'ITALIAAAAAAAAAAA"
Finally, I am happy to see Italy Head Coach Lippi talking in about another tone not the superstition that whoever wins the Confederations Cup will not win the World Cup. Today, Lippi bluntly challenges Brazil and Spain apparently the serious contenders of the Confederations.
Lippi says, "We are the World Cup Champions, which gap we have to fill? We must win and possibly playing well, but it is vain to say it before the games. We are like the Germans, when the moment requires it they did well and won often. I want to demonstrate to the world that Italian football is not that of the clubs."
BAMMMMM guys, I love the statement, but now "the gap to fill" will be for Italy to start playing well and winning like champions. I agree Italian clubs did not well this season being all eliminated from the Champions League. It's up to the Italian National team to show they are commanding in the big level.
The challenge for me is Spain not much Brazil, guys, Spain have been winning consistently and the "hattrick" from Fernando Torres to New Zealand today is just a wake up call for our defense to be alert and prepare to stop him. Time for Nicola Legrottaglie, Giorgio Chiellini and most of all to my beloved saint goalkeeper Gigi Buffon to stop the FURIA ROJA. Don't you think?

Wow, guys, Lippi also responded to the critics about keeping an "old team" based on the ages of the players compared to the youthful team of Spain. Here is the punch for the critics when Lippi instead of agreeing, reaffirm his belief to keep the OLD PLAYERS.
, “I’m keeping my old boys. I probably won't keep them until they reach the age of "villa Argento" [meaning going grey], but surely I will keep them up to the next World Cup. Even more, I am sure tht we will do better than many more youthful teams. If I had to play an entire championship, I won't choose thiese players, but with their mentality in this tournament of 30-40 days I don't think we have many rivals. My old boys still have a big hunger. It’s not as if Brazil or Spain has an average age far inferior to ours.”
Now, guys, talking about having a youthufl team, Lippi mentions the case of Spain. People used to say that Spain sustained that their football was not inferior to Italy or Brazil. Though, as Lippi says, "they have not won a World Cup yet; they have just won their first Europei."Wow, guys, that was a super punch!!!! I only hope Lippi to start showing this MIGHTY ITALY with the OLD GUYS tomorrow against the United States with a convincingly victory, period.
Lippi says, "You bet we are ready! We have all the will to do well. I watched today the opening ceremony, the color... and my hands started to sweat."
Talking about the United States, Lippi commented: "They are a different team than the ones we played in the World Cup. They are physically more prepared and playing a 4-4-2 with Donovan and in the midfield there is the son [Bradley] of the coach who is very good."

Lippi still not sure on whether to use Alberto Gilardino or Luca Toni. Yet, Lippi says that for sure defender Nicola Legrottaglie will play even if he is not fully in shape. Lippi just ask his players to play well and do their work right. Their mission is tough but they can do it. Imagine is already difficult to govern a town, a city, a region.. imagine the world."

Guys, I hope Lippi will pick Gilardino because he is more consistent and all energized to continue scoring. As for the comments of Lippi keeping the "old guys, i vecchietti" Hum? I agree only if he combines the experienced players with the new talents. It's time to form the new Italy and our youth are knocking at the door of the National team with their goals and performance.
So let's go ITALYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
Guys, don't miss the match. I will cover the game so I expect your comments.
