Hey, guys, let me enjoy reading the declarations from our beloved Saint goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon.   So, I am taking a break to have my protein shake and see what Buffon had to say today after the training of the Italian National team in Pretoria preparing for the kick off of the 2009 Confederations Cup match on Monday, June 15, 2009  USA -  Italy .

About chances of Italy winning the 2009 Confederations Cup South Africa and influence on Italian football, Buffon said:

"Would a victory for us help Italian football? Yes, it would. If we haven't really progressed three years after the World Cup victory, where would we be if we hadn't won? We do feel like ambassadors of Italian football.  I hope that Italy win the Confederations. For us players and the nation to be on top of the world will be a continuation of good results. It will be a joy to the fans too."

It's no surprise why Buffon says that "It's nice having so many Juve players in the Italian National Team."  Hello, hello, hello.. you have Juventus defenders Fabio Cannavaro, Nicola Legrottaglie, Giorgio Chiellini, midfielder Mauro Camoranesi, forward Vincenzo Iaquinta and Buffom himself!
 
Guys, according to Buffon Brazil right now is the favorite for many fans. "Brazil perhaps have something more in terms of the quality of their talents, but we and Spain are going for it. For me this tournament is worth a lot, the best teams of every continent are involved."

I agree on the point that Brazil have many key "individual talented players." Hey, hey, hey, is no wonder that 6 of their players play in the Italian Serie A !!! Hip hip hurrah!  Guys, the main guy for me in Brazil is FC Inter goalkeeper Julio Cesar and it will be a real challenge on who is who when Italy play against Brazil... the confrontation of the 2 top goalkeepers. 

Though, while almost everybody is talking about Brazil, I will be also paying attention to the progress of the United States soccer team.  The dangerous man is forward Landon Donovan.



PRETORIA (SUDAFRICA), June 13, 2009 -  Italy and FC Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon


Apart from talking about the Confederations Cup, Buffon also commented on the transfer market from Real Madrid:  "Considering the economic crisis the world is going through, it seems a bit strange to be proud of spending so much on transfers. Perhaps Real Madrid wanted to give an important signal, it could be that they can rise above the economic crisis."

"If Juve had spent that amount of money, I would be happy, but I understand why our clubs are being more cautious. I'm happy Juve are continuing to strengthen themselves, but not because of other teams' difficulties. The important thing is that the best team still wins, instead of the least weak one. The richest team doesn't always win and a bit of morality is always needed. Some amount of money are inconsiderate."

BAMMMM guys, a great truth!   I agree with Buffon that the "richest teams" not always win. I am so curious and eager to start the new season and see what will happen with the MEGA WELL PAID footballers Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo.   Can they play together with all the other galacticos or will it be a battle of egos?

Guys, as long as our Italian football improve, I will be happy.  The challenge here is more for AC Milan to show their "reconstructed Milan" with positive results.

Anyway, Italy should worry first about winning the kick off game against the United States and, then, we can start worrying about Brazil.   Right now.... GO ITALIA!!!!!!

I think USA can be a revelation in this tournament too.  Don't you think guys? 

I am glad to know also that Buffon supports the idea on having Dossena in Juventus too.  The transfer market for Juve is still going on.....
