What a magic moment for young FC Inter defender Davide Santon on his debut with the Italian National Team against Northern Ireland at 18 years old.  Guys, Santon spoke on Rai Sport after making his debut  with a victory commenting on the words of praise from Italy Head Coach Marcello Lippi.  Guys, Lippi has said that Santon is a "predestinato" a special defender destined to great things.

"They are beautiful words, and coming from such an important coach as Lippi makes me even more pleased,. This has been a fantastic year for me but I still have a lot to do. My career still has to take off."

How did Santon got to the Azzurri?  Santon's road to his first national team call-up began step by step starting last January 21 when he made his first-team debut for Inter in a Coppa Italia match against Roma.  Way to go for Santon, thumbs up!

"It's always hard for a youngster to make his debut in the first team, and I think it's even harder at a great team like Inter. I have been lucky. José Mourinho believed in me and I hope to continue to do well. I hope many other youngsters like me make their debut in the future."

I totally agree with Santon, Mourinho gave him the chance for playing time. However, it is also his own merit because Santon has trained hard and not disappointing the trust from Mourinho plus not giving any scandals.  On his position at club and national team level, Santon said: "With Inter I played twelve matches on the left wing and I played very well. Then I changed wing and I had a lapse. In general I can play on both sides, but I am at my best on the right."

When asked to compare Inter coach José Mourinho with his Italian counterpart Marcello Lippi, Santon responded: "I have known Mourinho for a year. He's a fantastic person; he knows how to transmit the right motivation to us players for any match; he laughs and jokes. I think Lippi is a positive person as well, but I don't know him very well."

Santon revealed that several senior members of the Azzurri set-up congratulated him after his debut. "The national team debut went well. Gattuso and Materazzi called me straight after the match and paid their compliments to me. They all told me to keep my head on my shoulders and continue. It's a splendid period for me but I know that there's still a lot of work to do. There will soon be another representative of Inter in the national team and his name is Mario Balotelli."

And the magic continues for Santon because now he can  look forward to the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup too.

"Going to South Africa is a dream. Up to a week ago I thought I would be called up to the Under-21 team, so just going there and being with my national team companions is a great result. I really wasn't expecting this call-up and I am very happy, but I will try to stay concentrated and work. I'm not thinking about whether I will play or not; these are decisions for Lippi, but being part of this great group is very important. I can't wait to meet Cannavaro."

I am sure Cannavaro will help Santon grow and give him some good tips to improve his skills. So good for Santon!   Bravo.

On the rumours of Super Zlatan Ibrahimovic leaving Inter, Santon said:

"He's a great champion. I hope he stays in our team but if he doesn't want to I think it's better for him to go and play elsewhere. But if he stays at Inter he will be very important, as always."
