You bet not only Santon, but all FC Inter fans!
Davide Santon happily declared, "I hope to become the Maldini of Inter. He was an example and he always will be. I would be happy to do half of what Paolo has done in football," said the 18-year-old Inter full-back, one of the new players in Marcello Lippi's Azzurri squad.
Santon also hopes he can follow in the footsteps of another great of Italian football - Giuseppe Bergomi, who won the World Cup with Italy in Spain in 1982 at the age of 19. Wow., that will be awesome to win the 2009 Confederations cup at 18 years old. po po po po po po.
"I would like to become a Bergomi without a moustache," said Santon at Italy's training facility in Coverciano. "I hope I can have this chance, but a lot will depend on what I do next season."
Lippi has already made it clear to Santon that he could be part of the Azzurri squad that travels to South Africa for the 2010 World Cup if he repeats his form at club level next term. Kudos for Santon!!! Italy needs younger defenders in the nazionale. I am so happy!!!! Just hope Mourinho continue to give Santon more playing time to improve his skills.
Wow, guys, imagine that Santon made it first to the BIG GUYS AZZURRI than his teammate forward Mario Balotelli who almost everybody calls "super Mario." On this regard, Santon commented, "Mario could have been in this national team if he hadn't behaved in ways that might have irritated fans and opponents."
wow, wow, wow.. what a blow and it is so true. Guys, come on, let's be honest. Balotelli technically speaking is great, but it is his temper that needs to improve and not be so provoking towards fans or opponents when playing. The least thing that Italy Head Coach Marcello Lippi needs is to have a risky players who might get an unnecessary yellow or red card in a match just by making provoking gestures.
In other words, the message is loud and clear to Balotelli: "Control your temper."

Anyway, guys, Santon admitted that his call-up to the national team is also thanks to the work done with FC Inter Milan coach José Mourinho. "The merit is his if I have played a lot and accumulated appearances in Serie A and the Champions League. It might not have been possible with another, Italian coach."
Undoubtedly, 2008-2009 Season will be unforgetable for Santon.
Santon, who is only 18 years old and nicknamed by Mourinho as "Il Bambino (the kid)" made his debut for the first team in the Coppa Italia match against AS Roma. Guys, where Santon really showed he was a potential defender was during the Champions League match against Manchester United where he became a headache for forward Cristiano Ronaldo.
