PREVIEW Italian Serie A Week 32 - Thirty-Second Round Saturday, April 18 and Sunday April 19, 2009. Post your PREDICTIONS now

By Anna Italia

Hello my friends,

A sad day for Italian football with the elimination of UDINESE of the UEFA Cup in the Quarterfinals Second Leg by Werder Bremen.

Psst....  Prepare your snacks and let's enjoy the rollercoaster ride.  It's officially a COUNTDOWN for the big Clash between FC JUVENTUS - INTER MILAN.

Like it or not, a victory for Inter can have the "Scudetto" in a secure section for the neriazzurri.  The battle this week is mostly for the second and fourth position.  Moreover, the desperate "survival" for salvation for Torino, Bologna, Lecce and Reggina.

As for the Roman gladiators, it is sad but their quest for the 4th position to be in the Champions League seems "an impossible dream"  Hello, hello, there are 8 points between Roma holding the 6th position and Genoa holding the 4th position with 57 points. Making matters worst for Roma, Fiorentina also pushing to leapfrog Genoa with only 2 points difference.

Having said that, here is my  PREVIEW  of the Italian Serie A Week 32 - Thirty Second Round on  Saturday, April 18 and Sunday, April 19, 2009.

The difference is clear "10 Points" and Inter closer to win their fourth consecutive Scudetto.  Here is the only chance for Juventus, who wasted their chances to shorten the distance last week when losing against Genoa, to delay Inter's Scudetto.  7 more games and if Juventus beat Inter, the difference will be only 7 points.

Disciplinary information:

FC Juventus
Cautioned: Amauri, Giorgio Chiellini, Zdenek Grygera, Pavel Nedved, Tiago.
Disqualified: Mauro Camoranesi, Marchisio.

Inter Milan
Cautioned
: Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Julio Cesar, Dejan Stankovic, Javier Zanetti.
Disqualified: - NONE

Bottom line guys, Juventus will go to this battle "FOR THEIR HONOR."  Come on, they are guilty for their luck.  Worst scenario will be losing at the Olimpico in front of their fans.  Wow, I cannot even imagine it.

Good news for Inter is the possible return of goalkeeper Julio Cesar. Guys, Inter without Maicon and Julio Cesar risks a lot.  Julio Cesar has been training this week and seems ready to take his position again.  Just in case, there is Francesco Toldo.

Not very good news for Juventus.  Midfielder Sissoko and Hasan Salihamidzic are still injured.  Though the heaviest loss is the suspension of Mauro Camoranesi.  The best shot for Juventus right now is the motivated forward Vincenzo Iaquinta.  Wow, guys, can you imagine Iaquinta delivering the winning goal?  As for Juventus flag Alessandro Del Piero, he might play only first half.  Though, in this type of "HONOR" match, I rather see Del Piero playing the entire match if he is fit.

Challenge for Juventus coach Claudio Ranieri is to choose between Iaquinta, Trezeguet, Giovinco and Del Piero.  Amauri is still out for injury. The key for Juventus more than their forwards is to have a solid defense!

Oh my gosh!!!  For Inter, the TRUEEEEE main shot is guess who?  who!!!!  Come on, who else, guys!!!! SUPER ZLATAN IBRAHIMOVIC!!!!   Ibrahimovic is even the top scorer of the Serie A with 20 goals and you bet he is not ready to stop.  Wow, so it will be IBRAHIMOVIC versus Juventus saint goalkeeper GIGI BUFFON!!!!  Oh my, my!!! I don't want to miss this match.

GENOA - LAZIO
Luigi Ferraris Stadium
2008 - 2009 Serie A Standing - Genoa  4th position, 57 points
                                           - Lazio 9th position, 44 points

Here is the match for the "super otivated teams."   Genoa on cloud 9 after beating Juventus and Lazio still flying after beating AS ROMA for the bragging rights of Roma!

Lazio is only 1 point difference with Cagliari holding the 8th position.  Lazio will push to get a victory to keep hope for a spot in the UEFA Cup.  There are only 5 point differences with Roma holding the 6th position.  Yet, Genoa will not sit on the pitch to have a picnic while Lazio do their game. Hello, hello, Genoa want to hold tight the 4th position to be in the Champions League next year with Fiorentina following them closely!!!!

The inspired Thiago Motta might be the hero of the match again just as he netted a brace against Juventus!  Diego Milito is still out for injury. Though you have Giuseppe Sculli also challenging to help the team.

The emotional moment will be for Lazio coach Delio Rossi who directed Genoa from 1999 to 2000. Rumors of the sacking of Delio Rossi were set aside after their convincing victory over Roma. Challenge for Lazio is to keep consistency and show the same determination against Genoa.   Otherwise, expect a loud protest from fans.

For Lazio suspended players Francelino Matuzalem and Christian Brocchi. The hope here is the tridente Goran Pandev, Mauro Zarate and Tommaso Rocchi. Question will be if Delio Rossi will continue to use goalkeeper Fernando Muslera or will it be finally the redemption of Argentinian goalkeeper Juan Pablo Carrizo.

Lazio can go to the Ferraris with hope because last season they beat Genoa with 2 goals!!!!

Wow guys,  both teams need this victory.  Though, Torino really need to win to escape relegation!  A defeat might send Torino to the dreaded zone of the relation if Lecce and Bologna win their respective matches.  Yet, AC Milan is so close to leapfrog Juventus with only 2 points difference!    Milan cannot let go this victory at home knowing that Genoa is following them too with giant steps!

Disciplinary situation

AC Milan: suspended defender Marek Jankulovski. Milan also have one cautioned player, Flamini.

Torino: No suspensions and four cautioned players: Barone, Dzemaili, Ogbonna, Ventola.
----
Torino coach Giancarlo Camolese is not afraid of the Rossonero but coming to San Siro with the firm determination to win just as they did when beating Catania last week.

Guys, the BULL is mad and looking for blood!!!!  San Siro will be a battlefield for survival.  Challenge will be for Torino midfield to create goal opportunities for their forwards and not lose ball possession.. a difficult thing considering the determination of Milan.  It will be up to forward Rolando Bianchi and Roberto Stellone to deliver the bullets or else.

Yet, for Milan the main shots are Alexandre Pato and Filippo Inzaghi.  Good news for the rossoneri because defender Paolo Maldini seems ready to play and you bet  Milan need a strong defense.

Guys, it will be a joyous moment for Torino if beating AC Milan because they have not beat them in the last 6 games.... so, will they change the record?  What do you think?

RIGORE E GOL: RONALDINHO ESULTA

I want to see here Ronaldinho because after warming too many minutes the bench he is desperate to win and SCORE!!!!  David Beckham might be in the starting lineup. So, it will be a chance also for young Torino midfielder Ignazio Abete to show his no less than the "spice boy."

Stats are positive for Milan winning the last 3 matches at home with just 1 draw. Though for Torino it is 2 loss and 2 draws.

PALERMO - BOLOGNA
Renzo Barbera Stadium
2008 - 2009 Serie A Standing - Palermo 7th position, 46 points
                                           - Bologna 18th position, 26 points

Hey guys,  prepare your snacks for this match!!!!!

Palermo super motivated after their super display, a "rimonta" against Inter last Saturday!!!!!  You bet Palermo coach Davide Ballardini will want to win in front of Palermo fans!   It is the best chance for Palermo to keep the dream for a spot in the UEFA Cup..

Get this one... Palermo is only 3 points away from AS ROMA holding the 6th position with 49 points!!!!  Roma will play against Lecce who are in the 19th position!   If Lecce beat Roma wow, guys, and Palermo beat Bologna, we are in for a complete ROLLERCOASTER!!!!!!   Palermo would be in the 6th position!  Though, not so fast guys because following them closely is Cagliari with 45 points.  In other words Palermo need to win, period.  A draw will not be enough and Cagliari with a victory can take the 7th position again.

The emotional part will be for new Bologna coach Giuseppe Papadopoulo returning to one of his former teams....  It is an uphill battle for Bologna because they are fighting relegation and cannot risk losing.  Well, advantage is that Papadopoulo knows already the atmosphere of the Renzo Barbera Stadium while he coached Palermo from 2005-2006.   He can handle the pressure, the question is whether Bologna players can handle it!!!!!

Bologna have lost 4 matches in a row and losing this one might be devastated!  It's no wonder why Coach Sinisa Mihajlovic was sacked.  Bologna must think in their salvation and Mihajlovic was not finding any solutions.

So much pressure for Bologna forward Marco Di Vaio to take the team by the hand.  Guys, Di Vaio has almost single handledly won the few matches of Bologna.... he is the second top scorer of the Serie A wiht 19 goals.

Well, the challenge is also for Palermo forward Uruguayan Edison Cavani to continue his "good moment."  Guys, Cavani has scored 12 goals so far surpassing his fellow teammate Fabrizio Miccoli!

Yet, Cavani and Miccoli can create more goals and their chance to shine at the Barbera.

Wonder whether Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini opens the bottle of champagne to receive Papadopoulu after sacking him LOL.   Uffaaa can you imagine if Papadopolou beat Palermo????  You better not be next to Zamparini!!!!

The match will be also emotional for ex palermo midfielder Massimo Mutarelli who played for the Pink Boys from 2002 to 2006!!!!  Disadvantage for Bologna not counting with Davide Marchini, Gabriele Paonessa, Luigi Lavecchia, Cesar Aparecido and Marcello Castellini... geee guyssss so who is going!!!!!!

Anyway, Bologna had a double session today ending with a game against the Primavera and winning 10-0!!!! Massimo Marazzina following indivual training to recover from  his right leg injury. Miguel Britos will have surgery tomorrow for appendicitis. I don't know how Papadopoulo will be able to form a competitive formation with so many injured players.

Disadvantage for Palermo is the suspension of midfielder Fabio Simplicio, a key player!  Also missing for injuries are Fabio Liverani, Antonio Nocerino, Igor Budan, and Roberto Guana.

Guys chances for  Davide Succi to be in the starting lineup are good after his equalizing goal against Inter.   Hey, come on, the guy deserve it!

Stats are totally against Bologna too!   Imagine in their last 4 away matches losing 3 and 1 draw without any victory!

AS ROMA - LECCE
Olimpico di Roma Stadium
2008 - 2009 Serie A Standing - AS Roma 6th position, 49 points
                                           - Lecce 19th position, 24 points

Guys, I don't know whether to sing the "ARRIVEDERCI ROMA" or not... Point is that after the blow of losing the Roma Derby against Lazio with a smashing result:
Lazio 4 - 2 AS Roma

Imagine the morale of the "fallen Roman Gladiators."  Wow,  guys, but here is the chance for Roma to wake up... though a bit too late.  It would  be a total disaster, a set back if Lecce beat Roma in the Olimpico!!!!  Lecce is coming desperate for the 3 points.  They are in the relegation zone and not feeling sorry for Roma.  They need the points, period.   So, how much Roma and Lecce want to win this match???  Hey, hey, hey... we will find out!

Disadvantage for Roma is the suspension for 3 matches for defender Philippe Mexes after his battibecco with  Lazio fellow Matuzalem.  Though, wait... also defender Christian Panucci suspended for one match and even Coach Luciano Spalletti suspended for his behavior after the match in a controvery with Lazio Sporting Tare.   Things are not looking bright for Roma because Mirko Vucinic and Cicinho continue injured!!!!!

Guys, things might look even with Lecce having also 3 suspended players: Giuseppe Vives, Guillermo Giacomazzi and Raffaele Schiavi. Making matters worse, forward Daniele Cacia injured. Adding the  cherry on top of the ice cream, stats are so negative for Lecce losing their last 4 AWAY matches!!!!!!  Not only that guys, Lecce have the second worst defense conceding 53 goals, scoring only 27 having a total negative goal difference of -26.

It's the time for Captain Francesco Totti to take the fallen flag and ignite the battle in the Olimpico. Roma is only a shadow from last year.  The numbers are clear, so far Roma have scored 48 goals, conceding 46 and having a total positive goal difference of only +2.   Ouch!!!!

UDINESE - FIORENTINA
Friuli Stadium
2008 - 2009 Serie A Standing - Udinese 12th position, 39 points
                                           - Fiorentina 5th position, 55 points

What a major blow for Udinese!   Guys, Udinese eliminated today of the UEFA Cup by Werder Bremen in the Quarterfinals Second Leg 3-3.  Aggregate result in favor of Werder and you  don't want to even joke with the morale of Udinese players.  Not to mention forward Fabio Quagliarella despite scoring twice but not able to deliver a winning goal even if trying until the end.

The match at the Fiuli Stadium was a curse.  So, it will be a good chance for Udinese to do a prompt recovery and win against Fiorentina this Sunday.  Udinese fans will support the team but now it is the team who need to deliver.

Fiorentina will go for the 3 points looking to upset Genoa who are holding the 4th position.  Chances for Fiorentina to jump to the 4th position depend on Lazio beating Genoa.  There are only 2 points difference between Fiorentina and Genoa.  Problem will be if Fiorentina lose because if Roma beat Lecce there will be only 3 points difference with the giallorossi who are looking to reach the 4th position too.  So, it is all or nothing for Fiorentina.

San Paolo  Stadium
2008 - 2009 Serie A Standing - Cagliari 8th position, 45 points
                                           - Napoli 12th position, 39 points

Wow guys, It is just amazing to see the numbers between Cagliari and Napoli!

Hello, just in the beginning of the season Napoli was among the top 6 teams and now in the 12th position?  OUCH!  Not only the sacking of coach Edy Reja has not given a solution with coach Roberto Donadoni.  Draws or defeats are adding  for Napoli.

A different story is for Cagliari right now in the 8th position with only 1 point difference with Palermo holding the 7th position with 46 points. Cagliari will be hoping for Bologna to beat Palermo at the Barbera to catch up.  Wow, guys... who would have said it... last season Cagliari struggling for salvation and now struggling to get a spot in the Uefa Cup.. way to go!!!!

Hey, guys,  a  victory for Catania  will equal the points with Sampdoria!  Three points difference.  Yet, it will be a difficult task considering the brilliant moment of the Dorian duo Giampaolo Pazzini and Antonio Cassano.

Catania need to win at home.  It was not an easy defeat against Torino and their moment for redemption is today.  Only wondering whether  Sampdoria will give in... I doubt it.

Who can save Reggina???   By now guys, Reggina being in the last position with only 20 points looks more on their way to the Serie B than remaining in the Serie A.
