PREVIEW Italian Serie A Week 30 - Thirty Round Sunday, April 5, 2009. Post your PREDICTIONS now

By Anna Italia

Hello my friends,

Wow, we are back to our Italian Serie A after the 2010 World Cup Qualifiers break.

I still have a headache with some of the results. Though, let's see how this break will condition the matches of the Serie A in this Week 30.  It's SUPER SUNDAY because all matches will be played on Sunday!!!

What do I mean?  Hello, hello... many of our Serie A players got injured while playing with their National teams, such as Napoli forward Ezequiel Lavezzi, Inter defender Maicon, Genoa forward Diego Milito, Udinese forward Antonio Di Natale and won't be able to play this week and some even until next season!  Ouch.  Plus, some of the players, for example, those playing with Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Paraguay will arrrive super tired  on Saturday... if there are no delays with their flights.  Clubs resenting this fact are precisely the ones dealing for the top 3 positions: FC Inter, AS Roma, and AC Milan who have players with Brazil and Argentina.

Here is my  PREVIEW  of the Italian Serie A Week 30 - Thirty Round on Sunday, April 5, 2009.

Here is the moment for Palermo to get the 3 points at the Renzo Barbera..... there will be no excuse if losing or drawing.  Coach Davide Ballardini and players believe Palermo can reach a post for the UEFA Cup next season.  Is this realistic?  YES AND NO. wow... wow, wow... Let's see guys, Palermo and Cagliari have 42 points each. Cagliari will play against Catania at home and most likely will beat Catania.  Though, there is another obstacle with Lazio having 41 points and playing an away match against Siena.

So, bottom line... Palermo must win this Sunday, hope for Cagliari-Catania to draw or Catania beat Cagliari and for Atalanta to beat Fiorentina....  If all this happen... you might have some hope to reach the UEFA spot... but not so fast guys because Palermo will play against FC INTER next week at the Meazza... technically speaking Inter is the best and will beat Palermo... though.. we never know considering Inter's latest alarm situation with injured players.

The challenge is for Torino coach Giancarlo Camolese making his debut with Torino after the sacking of coach Walter Novellino. Hey, guys, if Camolese beat Palermo, prepare to see the "OLE FOR TORINO" everywhere and the "CRYING AND PRANKS" from Zamparini blasting the team and coach.   Torino practically has their luggage ready and a reservation spot for the relegation!!!!!  Losing will only speed up the process for relegation.  If Lecce beat AC Milan or draw, Torino can go down to the 19th position!!!

I am telling you, Palermo on paper has everything to win this match.  Goalkeeper Marco Amelia is fresh .... by the way guys, today is Amelia's 27th birthday....  Amelia was in the called up list for the Italian National team 2010 World Cup qualifiers but did not play. It means he is ready to go and block all attempts to score from Torino. It will be awesome to celebrate his birthday with a clean sheet on Sunday!

Torino has not won a single away match!  OUCH....  If we keep checking the statistics, it looks somber for Torino because they have not won at the Barbera in September 1962!!!!!!!

Wow, guys, here is the thing.... the return of the ex Palermo players now with Torino: Eugenio Corini, Simone Barone, Paolo Dellafiore and Andrea Gasbarroni... the rollercoaster of emotion will be up and down, down and up....

Palermo training on March 31, 2009 preparing the match for Torino.... who is flying higher???
2009 Soccer jersey Sale
Disadvantage for Torino only one suspended player Marco Pisano... injuries? Let's name them... Elvis Abbruscato, Marco Di Loreto, and Angelo Ogbonna.  The hope and prayers from  Torino fans will be for forward Rolando Bianchi and midfielder Alessandro Rosina to take the team to victory.

Liverani during the training to prepare for the Serie A Week 30 match Palermo - Torino.  I love this photo, Liverani like saying to his teammates "Let's go get the 3 points."

Although Palermo forward Fabrizio Miccoli is returning from a bad suspension, there are 2 suspended players for this match: Cesare Bovo and Mattia Cassani. Like Torino, Palermo also has a long list of injured players Mark Bresciano, Igor Budan, Roberto Guana.  Palermo will rely on forward Fabrizio Miccoli and Marco Amelia as the main two players.  I still think forward Edison Cavani will unravel his potential. He is still with Uruguay, though he did not play but the traveling is a killer one.    Hernandez?  Well, we have not seen him play that much yet.

Marco Amelia, Levan Mchedlidze and Samir Ujkani are back after their participation with their respective national teams.

Based on the statistics, Palermo has better chances to win at home... In the last 6 matches 4 wins, and 2 losts.  Torino in the last AWAY matches have 4 draws and 2 lost... so... either is a victory for Palermo or a draw....

On paper, AC Milan is the favorite to win ... Milan have lost in San Siro only 2 times this season.  Yet, underestimating the small teams is a big danger because these are the ones creating problems to the big teams. Ironically, Lecce have only won 2 times in away matches.   Besides, Lecce have not won an away match since  February 1  SIENA 1 - 2 Lecce, unbelievable.... help!!!!

Here we can say it is a battle between GOLIATH AND DAVID.... wow, guys, Milan and Lecce risk big time. Milan might lose the third position considering there are only 4 points difference with Genoa holding the 4th spot.  Here is the thing, Genoa will play against Reggina and most likely will win, if Lecce beat Milan, then, big problems because there will be only 2 points differences and considering Fiorentina is also in the battle for a spot in the UEFA Champions League, Milan is obliged to win, period.

Milan need desperately to get back in shape and start winning all their remaining 9 matches.  Tension is huge because Milan have to play against Juventus, AS Roma and Fiorentina... all these involved in the battle for the Champions League.

The problem is for Lecce!!!  After the sacking of coach Mario Beretta, Lecce is still on their fast lane to the relegation.  Losing against Milan and Reggina beating Genoa will only worsen their situation.

Although there are no suspended players for Milan and Lecce, problems is for Lecce because coach Luigi De Canio and club's doctor Palaia are suspended. OUCH!!! Two players carrying a yellow card for AC Milan: Kakha Kaladze and Marek Jankulovksi. Eight players for Lecce carrying a yellow card: Benussi, Fabiano, Giacomazzi, Giuliatto, Munari, Papa Waigo, Polenghi, Schiavi.

One major problem for Milan is that they have their key players Kaka, Pato, and Ronaldinho still in Brazil.... these players are tired after playing for the National team and taking a fly all the way from Brazil to Italy will be so tired... supposedly, they will be arriving late Friday or early Saturday morning.

Kaka played 90 minutes today and seems he is recovering from his left foot injury.  An advantage for Milan is the inspired midfielder David Beckham with a brilliant participation with England National team and breaking the record of Bobby Moore now having 110th appearance with England. Also, forward Andriy Shevchenko scoring against England, might be a good option for Ancelotti to include him in the starting lineup while waiting to see the condition of Pato, Kaka, and Ronaldinho.

Again, the injured lists for Milan is alarming starting with goalkeeper Christian Abbiati. Yet, goalkeeper Dida seems is ready and gaining self confidence to pull the rossoneri for another victory.

MILANELLO-19 MARZO: ANCORA DIDA

Checking the stats in the last 6 matches in San Siro AC Milan have won 3 and draw 3.  Lecce last 6 AWAY matches 4 losts, and 2 win.

AS ROMA - BOLOGNA
Olimpico di Roma Stadium
2008 - 2009 Serie A Standing - AS Roma 6th position, 46  points
                                                      - Bologna 17th position, 26 points

Wow guys, it is a crucial moment for AS ROMA!!!!  I am so concerned for goalkeeper Doni and forward Julio Baptista still in Brazil and making their flight  back to Italy.  Doni did not play any match with Brazil, so he would be ok. Yet, Julio Baptista played both matches and I hope he makes it to recover and be ready to give his contribution to the Giallorossi.

Totti is still injured, and Roma although have lost four matches and eliminated from the Champions League by Arsenal, need to get back in the competition.  Roma might even not be in the next Champions League because they are struggling with injuries.  Roma in the 6th position must wait for Genoa and Fiorentina to lose their respective matches to catch up.  Losing against Bologna and Genoa  beating Reggina will see the chances of Roma to be in the CL becoming blurry.........

Latest report from April 1 about the condition of Roma players include: Mirko Vucinic with a right gluteus maximus injury, Francesco Totti still recovering, training limited: Cassetti, Rodrigo Taddei and Max Tonetto. Alberto Aquilani and Juan undergoing physiotherapy.  So. guys, if you are a Roma fan... start praying and don't stop until the match is over.

Bologna coach Sinisa Mihajlovic is expecting to win in the Olimpico to avoid relegation. Wow, guys, Bologna is only 2 points away from Lecce and Torino having 24 points each.  Bologna somehow need to win to have hope for salvation.

I am afraid that if Mihajlovic lose this match despite the confirmation from Bologna President, he might be sacked.  There are only 9 more matches and continuing losing is not the best medicine to be saved.... so, most likely, Mihajlovic will be preparing his suitcase soon.

The added  motivation for the Roman gladiators will be to have their leader Captain Francesco Totti back in the field to lead the team.

Bad news for Bologna includes the suspension of forward Pablo Osvaldo.  The hope for Bologna is forward Marco Di Vaio the top scorer of the Serie along FC Inter Zlatan Ibrahimovic with 19 goals each.

Pablo Osvaldo will be suspended for this game so Mihajlovic will definitely line a 4-5-1 formation based on counter attack. Up front Marco Di Vaio will be looking to increase his already impressive scoring record but it won't be easy for him against the Giallorossi.

In the last 6 HOME matches ROMA have won 4, 1 draw and 1 lost.  Gee.. guys... the problem is the last match because it was a defeat in the Olimpico against Juventus.

Accessories: Inter Milan Gymsack, scarf, balls, Centenary Ball,

Wow guys, 33 points difference!!!!!

Here is the real test for Inter, guys, and let me say that if INTER win this match, it is most likely they will win the Scudetto providing they don't lose their match with Juventus who are only 7 points away from Inter.

Udinese might have some hope to beat Inter since they have not lose at home since November when Chievo Verona surprised everybody by getting the victory at the Friuli.

Inter coach Jose Mourinho has been preparing his team so carefully considering the absence from his international players.  A major blow for Inter is the injury of Maicon during the 2010 World Cup Qualifier match for Brazil because he might miss the rest of the season.   This is really a blow because Maicon along goalkeeper Julio Cesar and forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic have been the key players for the success of Inter.

Sure, Inter might have the option to see young defender Davide Santon in the place of Maicon.  Well, guys, Santon has proven consistency but can he handle the pressure in the last 9 matches?

Udinese also suffering a major blow with forward Antonio DI Natale injuring during the 2010 World Cup qualifier match against Montenegro and also missing the rest of the matches. Injured players for Udinese is also long and coach Pasquale Marino must do miracles to prepare a compettive formation.  Injuries include Damiano Ferronetti, Andrea Coda, Aleksandar Lukovic, midfielder Fernando Tissone and goalkeeper Samir Handanovic on the crocked list.

So, expect the debut from Slovenian goalkeeper Jan Koprivec.  OUCHHHH guysssss wrong timing to make a debut when facing Super Zlatan Ibrahimovic..... However, if Koprivec blocks Ibrahimovic and keep a clean sheet, expect many new fan clubs for Koprivec!!!

Adding more problems for Udinese, forward Alexis Sanchez and defender Maurizio Domizzi are suspended.

On paper, Inter have the stats in their favor.  They have won 8 matches out of their 10 last matches.

inter.it 115207

Good news is that defender Nicolas Burdisso is back in training after he injured on March 7 in the match Genoa - Inter. So, things might not be that bad for Inter as Burdisso seems ready to battle again.  He trained today Thursday for 90 minutes and completed the whole training: warm up, possession drills, tactical work and practice games.

As reported by Inter official website, Mario Balotelli and Davide Santon, who went through individual aerobic sessions yesterday on their return from international duty, trained with their team-mates this afternoon. Zlatan Ibrahimovic (individual strength building session in gym) and Luis Jimenez (treatment, physiotherapy, strength building, aerobic work), worked separately.  Yet, Amantino Mancini and Luis Jimenez not fully fit.

Brazilians Adriano and Julio Cesar and Argentines Walter Samuel and Javier Zanetti are on their way back from South America. Dejan Stankovic, who played 45 minutes for Serbia against Sweden last night, had today off, as did Maicon and Mancini.

Last 6 AWAY matches from FC INTER 4 wins, 2 lost.

11/03/2009 UEFA Champions League Manchester United vs. Inter Milan L - 2:0
07/03/2009 Serie A Genoa vs. Inter Milan W - 0:2
04/03/2009 Coppa Italia Sampdoria vs. Inter Milan L - 3:0
21/02/2009 Serie A Bologna vs. Inter Milan W - 1:2
07/02/2009 Serie A Lecce vs. Inter Milan W - 0:3
28/01/2009 Serie A Catania vs. Inter Milan W - 0:2

Last 6 HOME  matches from UDINESE 5 wins, and 1 draw.   Wow guyss......   if we based our predictions on the stats, then Udinese will win.  However, statistics don't count during the 90 minutes match because everything can change.

15/03/2009 Serie A Udinese vs. Catania D - 1:1

Juventus - One Century Of Emotions

Juventus will do their best to win this match and hope for Udinese to beat Inter to shorten the distance for the Scudetto.  Difference with Inter are 7 points.    If Udinese beat Inter, the difference will be 4 and considering there is a pending match between Juve and Inter, another victory over Inter will shorten the distance to 1 point!!!!!

You see how crucial is this match?   Juventus have no other choice than winning, period.

Advantage recovering goalkeeper Gigi Buffon, but disadvantage having an injured defender Giorgio Chiellini playing with a mask protection.  Guys, Chiellini is excellent no doubt about it, but he is risking getting another blow in his nose.  True, Juve with all their long list of injured players must use those best fit.... so we expect to see Chiellini.

28/01/2009 Serie A Chievo vs. Lecce D - 1:1

Juventus have the advantage of not losing their last five matches.  Their elimination from the Champions League by Chelsea instead of discourage them, it gave them an added fuel to keep the race for the Scudetto alive.

Chievo, slowly but surely, have climbed the Serie A Table and are now out of the relegation zone.  Yet, losing will ring back the "alarm sound."  Chievo surprised many when they beat Lazio in the Olimpico Stadium and beating even Palermo.

Challenge will be for forward Vincenzo Iaquinta who is rocking after he scored the goal in the 2010 World Cup qualifier match against the Republic of Ireland.  Amauri is sitll injured.  It is now up to Iaquinta and Captain Del Piero to take control of the offense.  Unless the differences between Coach Ranieri and Trezeguet are clear, we will see Iaquinta - Del Piero in the formation.

Will it be a party celebration for Chievo??????

2008 - 2009 Serie A Standing - AC Siena 15th position, 31 points
                                                      - Lazio 9th position, 41 points

Wow,  here is a challenge for Lazio goalkeeper Fernando Muslera.   Most likely, Muslera will be the starting goalkeeper.  Coach Delio Rossi has preferred Muslera instead of Carrizo lately.  Anyway, after the humiliating goleada from Argentina in the 2010 World Cup qualifier match against Bolivia on Wednesday losing by 6 -1......  I don't think Rossi will risk putting back Carrizo who was the goalkeeper for Argentina.  Plus, Carrizo will be arriving  in Italy until Friday or Saturday morning.

The honeymoon for Carrizo and Lazio seems over as he has declared being treated like a baby in Lazio.  Honestly, guys, I don't understand what happened because Carrizo was the undisputed goalkeeper.....

REGGINA - GENOA
Oreste Granillo Stadium
2008 - 2009 Serie A Standing - Reggina 20th position, 20  points
                                                      - Genoa 4th position, 51 points

Genoa cannot let go this match but neither Reggina.

Point is that Genoa is only 4 points away from AC Milan!!!!   Right now Genoa is keeping the 4th position and continue their quest for a post in the UEFA Champions League next season.

Problem is that Fiorentina is also following closely Genoa and there are only 2 points difference!!!!  It means that if Reggina beat Genoa and Fiorentina beat Atalanta, Fiorentina will take the 4th position!!!!!!!   You bet they won't let go once holding the 4th spot.

Disadvantage for Genoa is losing forward Diego Milito after he injured during the 2010 World Cup match with Argentina.  Hello, hello, Milito has been the savior for Genoa.... He is the third top scorer with 16 goals, only 3 behind the top scorers Bologna forward Marco Di Vaio and FC Inter forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Reggina will give all their best as they still believe in the miracle of salvation ... they are the last team with only 20 points while the 18th and 19th places have 24 points.   Winning can have some hope for Reggina... though.... most likely... relegation awaits for them.
