"I've always said that it's better to be top of the table than second because it gives you the tranquility," FC Inter Coach Jose Mourinho after the Serie A Week 29 match FC INTER - REGGINA

By Anna Italia

I was watching the interview of FC Inter coach Jose Mourinho after the Italian Serie A Week match FC Inter 3 - 0 Reggina.

Guys, there are some good points.  A journalist asked Mouriho on whether Inter President Massimo Moratti asked him to win the Champions League, Mourinho said no.  Wow?  what?  Really? Hum? Hello, many times Moratti declared the clear objective for Inter was to win the Champions League, period.  Inter might win the Scudetto this year, still, that will not change the failure of not passing to the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals, period.

Mourinho also commented on the declaration of PELE saying that Diego Armando Maradona was not a complete player because he could not play with the head.  Mourinho responding that it is too bad Maradona did not play for Inter.

Anyway, guys, here is the video of José Mourinho analyzing Inter's 21st win of the season in an interview with Sky Sport Italia.

"I'm very pleased with today's victory," he said after Sunday afternoon's 3-0 victory over Reggina. "I've always said that it's better to be top of the table than second because it gives you the tranquillity of thinking only about your matches and not worrying about what the others do. A few weeks ago I said there were 29 points left and now they are 20. This is our privilege - having won six points from important home and having gone into the break in this position before the last nine matches."

The Inter coach continued his analysis by commenting on the different approaches a team can have to a game.

"The confidence with which Inter plays a game depends on its attitude, but football is football. Sometimes you don't manage to start a match like you want, but we started very well today and could have finished off the match after 30 minutes, and there was also that great move with Santon and Ibra (who hit the post). Reggina played their game and when you look at the 3-0 result it seems like Julio Cesar was on holiday for 90 minutes but he made some very difficult saves."

On Zlatan Ibrahimovic's new record of goals in one Italian season, Mourinho said: "I don't know if his improvement is thanks to me. I think a coach is always responsible, whether a player does better or worse. I don't think he has to change anything to be as decisive in Europe as he is in the Italian championship. In the end, what's the difference with the crossbar he hit against Manchester United? It's just a matter of centimetres. I know that he has won a lot in Italy and still hasn't managed to do the same in Europe, but there are only two or three teams in the running for the Scudetto, while there are maybe ten competing in the Champions League and they are all of a very high level."

José Mourinho continued his post-match interview with a few remarks on the second-placed team. "Juventus don't have anything more than Inter," he said. "They have seven points less. This is the objective way of looking at the situation. Juve play as a team, suffer as a team, but they are not more of a team than us. Inter are a team in every moment and this is why it can fight against every difficulty.

For example, I have never seen a team play with nine different pairs of central defenders. Today we played with Cambiasso and Rivas - the ninth pair of central defenders since the start of the championship. Inter play well because they work, because all the players want to do well, because our midfield works very hard. Perhaps we lack a playmaker, a number 10, but watching from the bench I have to admit that they do a great job.

The strikers are also doing a great job. A few months ago Balotelli didn't help the team in defence. Today he was always running to do this. We are a team. Juve deserve the praise for the great job they are doing, but I don't think Inter are inferior. We don't have fewer points than last season, we have one more, but this doesn't count much. If we still haven't won the championship it's because Juve keep winning, so we still need 20 points."

Mourinho will fly to his native Portugal today to receive a honorary degree from the University of Lisbon. "I studied hard for my first degree," said Mourinho, "but I haven't done anything for this one. I don't know why some people have questioned this decision, but I read the university's official motivation and everybody, except for one person, voted for me to receive it."

Mourinho was asked how he feels about seeing Manchester United lose two games in a row after their Champions League tie with Inter.

"In the first, they were defeated by Liverpool, a team of a high level that had fewer scoring chances than Inter at San Siro. In the second defeat against Fulham, Manchester had ten scoring chances. This is football, but I think that Manchester United will soon return to their level. Who will win the Champions League? You can never say, but I think that one of the English teams will get into the final, and in the other group it's impossible to say who out of Barcelona, Bayern and Villarreal will do better."

José commented on the 'stomach ache' attributed to Ibrahimovic after Inter's Champions League exit. "I like stomach aches after a defeat or a draw," he said. "I like going home angry after a negative result and I like this to happen to players too, as long as they transform this feeling of frustration into the positive energy necessary to fight for another objective, which is our case is the Scudetto."

And after the Scudetto, Mourinho will begin working to make Inter a force to be reckoned with in the Champions League. "To make Inter competitive in Europe we need some reinforcements," he said. "We have two or three young players with great potential who in two or three years' time will be great players. We have a group of players of great stability, and, personally, I like two roads: the one that leads to top players and the one that leads to rejuvenating the team."
