Covering the UEFA Cup from an Italian Perspective

I am including the press conference from AC Milan Coach Carlo Ancelotti on the eve of Matchday 5 of the UEFA Cup Group Stage E AC MILAN - WOLFSBUG.  I agree with the point  that the main objective is to win the match to finish first of Group E.  Though, Milan must also win to start afresh after their disappointing defeat against Juventus. Don't you think?

I want to see a consistent Milan playing in the Serie A and in the UEFA Cup with victories.  I agree also with the point that Milan lacks "solidity and that the responsibility not only depend on one department." Howver, it's about time that Milan players, especially the three ex golden balls: Ronaldinho, Sheva, and Kaka start being consistent.

28 OTTOBRE-MILANELLO: ANCELOTTI IN CONFERENZA

MILANELLO - Here's Carlo Ancelotti, coach of Milan, ahead of the match against German side Wolfsburg. The first questions regarded the team coached by Felix Magath: "Considering that both teams are qualified, the objective for tomorrow both for us and Wolfsburg is finishing in first place which will allow us to have an easier match in the last 32. Wolfsburg have good qualities, they alternate good performances with less good ones. They are still an excellent team coached by an experienced coach. I think Wolfsburg have the qualities to continue in the Uefa Cup. Of the teams in our group they were the most prestigious, the strongest. We know Barzagli and Zaccardo, of course there aren't many Italian players who go abroad, so the few ones that do we follow with attention. German football at the moment is a step below Spanish and English football."

On the current problems of the Rossoneri:

"We lack solidity. Sometimes the defence lacks cover. The responsibility is never of just one department. Right now we lack compactness and solidity. It's not a question of players, but of the team. We have to cure other aspects of the way we play. There are some parts of the season where certain flaws are evident and others in which they are concealed. This year's team shows limits when it lacks compactness. The sacrifice has to be constant, not just a resource to use in moments like this. The sacrifice must always be there. I think that some players who have just come back will improve their condition soon, but against Juventus I did not see all this difference physically. They were quicker than us in the counterattacks. We must not redesign the team, also because it isn't easy to do that during a season. We have to replace a very important player like Gattuso and to do that we bought Flamini, who came to Milan to make up for certain lackings."

On the singular players:

"Pato? Sunday he played as a central striker in the first half and made some good movements aside from the goal. In the second half he played more laterally and showed some good things, even though in a one on one he tried to dribble his way in instead of looking for the wing with his speed.

Kaká? I think he can play on Sunday. Leonardo? He has great experience, he is doing the coaching course and he will be a part of a long series of contenders for Milan's bench. Unfortunately it's a long list, he isn't the only one. Tomorrow? Dida will be there. We will also have Zambrotta and Ambrosini."
