Covering the UEFA European Under 21 from an Italian Perspective
Sad news guys with the defeat from our Italy Under 21 in the friendly match against Germany. The Azzurrini lost the friendly match and now we have to think what went wrong considering Italy could not score a single goal.
The starting line up formation for Italy Under 21 by Coach Pierluigi Casiraghi:
Italy 4-3-3: Sirigu; M. Motta, Andreolli, Fabiano Santacroce, Domenico Criscito; Daniele Dessena, Bolzoni, Paolo De Ceglie; Davide Lanzafame, Mario Balotelli, Sebastian Giovinco.
In the 48th minute, FC Bayern Munich midfielder Toni Kross with a right footed shot to the corner blasts Italy U-21 goalkeeper Sirigu.
Germany U-21 1 - 0 Italy U-21
It was the first defeat of Casiraghi in a friendly match with the Azzurrini and the debut of FC Juventus forward Sebastian Giovinco as captain with a defeat.
I agree it was a friendly match. Yet, I expected at least 1 goal for Italy. FC Inter forward Mario Balotelli played 80 minutes but could not find the door to equalize the score. Parma forward Alberto Paloschi substituted him in the 80th minute.
Let's not forget that Paloschi was called in the last minute to replace also Cagliari forward Robert Acquafresca who could not travel with the team for injury during the match against Fiorentina in the Serie A Week 12.
In the 70th minute, Italy forward Sebastian Giovinco shooting from long range misses the target.
I might say the best part for Italy was in the 77th minute when Inter forward Mario Balotelli attempts to blast Germany goalkeeper and in the rebound Napoli defender Fabiano Santacroce had the chance to equalize the score. Bad part the ball hitting the outside of the post. Though good team effort here.

Italy still having problems with "finalizing the actions." Balotelli had his chances as well as Giovinco.
Casiraghi made 7 substitutions to test players. Good thing is Di Gennaro making his debut even if playing only for 10 minutes when he substituted Daniele Dessena in the 80th minute.
Time for Casiraghi to draw another strategy and practice more on finalizing actions.
