A good warm up for Sampdoria prior the Serie A Week 12 match against Lecce.  Sampdoria beat Empoli 2-1 in the Coppa Italia Eighth Finals. Bad news was that Referee Tommasi sent off Sampdoria midfielder Daniele Dessena after getting a second yellow card in the 36th minute!

In the 31st minute, Sampdoria forward Bruno Fornaroli sends a headed pass to forward Emiliano Bonazzoli blasting Empoli goalkeeper Bassi.

I was a bit disappointed with young midfielder Daniele Dessena.  He got a second yellow card in the 36th minute and left the team with only 10 players!  Good thing is that Sampdoria instead of slowing down, they kept their coolness and even scored the second goal before the end of the first half.

Referee Tommasi granted a penalty to Sampdoria when forward Bruno Fornaroli was brought down inside teh area.  Taking the penalty was Fornaroli himself and converting to give Sampdoria a comfortable lead.

Well, the "honor goal" for Empoli was in the 61st minute with midfielder Francesco Lodi.

In the 76th minute, Referee Tommasi granted a penalty to Sampdoria  for a foul on Marius Stankevicius.  The surprising part was when Sampdoria midfielder Reto Ziegler failed to convert the penatly after Empoli goalkeeper Davide Bassi made a great save!
