How are you? Are you ready with your coffee, tea, juice or snack?
Let's read the
news from the front page of Italy's sports newspaper "Il Corriere dello Sport"
from this morning Friday, October 31, 2008.
NAPOLI
Headline says, "Many news on the eve of the Super Match in San Siro Milan-Napoli. Napoli Calls Maradona: Now that you are the head coach of Argentina come and see how good are Denis and Lavezzi."
Anna Italia Opinion - The article is about Napoli DG Pasquale Marino talking on the match valid for the Serie A Week 10 AC Milan - Napoli this Sunday, November 2 in San Siro.
I agree with Marino who says that "Napoli has nothing to lose, Milan is the one in a difficult position."
In a sense it is true. Napoli who is right now in the second position with 20 points only 1 point ahead of Milan has nothing to lose if considering that Napoli is on top positions after 17 years while Milan is used to be among the top.
However, Napoli has big time to lose too. Is not that Napoli wants to give up to the privilege position at the top of the Serie A Standing right now shared with Udinese also with 20 points.
AC Milan is in the third position with 19 points. A victory will see Milan in the second position if Udinese beat Genoa, but if Genoa beat Udinese, MILAN WILL BE IN FIRST POSITION.
For superstition Napoli is changing hotels when arriving in Milan.
Marino makes reference to ex Napoli forward Diego Armando Maradona now head coach for Argentina. Today, is Maradona's birthday and he makes a toast for him. At the same time, considers Maradona as part of Napoli football. Marino says that Maradona will always have the doors open in Napoli but right now he belongs to Argentina and is making his dream come true to coach the National team. The ideal will be for Maradona to come to Napoli and observe forwards German Denis and Ezequiel Lavezzi.
I agree with Marino that right now Napoli is proving to be a team ready for the Champions League. Yet, we are only on Week 10 and considering that Napoli could not handle the presure of beating Benfica to qualify for the UEFA Cup, I won't be that confident. Is not enough to win matches, but winnning matches in key moments is what really counts to show maturity, personality. I hope Napoli to be consistent and make it to the top 4 because they are playing better than one of the traditionals: AS Roma.
AC MILAN Transfer Market
Headline says, "Milan, Beckam Coming FREE. Agreement signed: Will play on loan from January 2009 to March, then, he will go back to the United States."
Anna Italia Opinion - Just like the article mentions, it is official! L.A. Galaxy midfielder David Beckam is coming to AC Milan for 3 months on loan as confirmed by AC Milan VP Adriano Galliani from January 7 2009 to March and he will return to the USA after to continue playing with his team L.A. Galaxy from the Major League Soccer - MLS.
AC Milan welcomes English Midfielder David Beckam in January 2009
Whether this is a good idea or not for AC Milan, we will find out. It is known that Beckam wants to continue playing for the Englan National Team. So, if he wanted to be considered for the next world cup qualifiers he had to be playing.
England Head Coach Fabio Capello said that he won't call players who are not active. So, there is the "origin" of Beckam to join a club to be fit enough for a possible call.
The one not happy with this whole 'on loan' issue is Beckam current coach in L.A. Galaxy Bruce Arena. Well, I don't blame him because is not a common practice to have players joining another club to play few months and then return.
According to the article, Beckam might come to Milan on December 20 for the medical tests and presented the next day for the match Milan - Udinese. Beckam will then join Milan to travel with the team on December 29 for the friendly match in Dubai. Here is where the "confusing" part is going on.... Beckam will train with the team and in the friendly match BUT AS AN L.A. GALAXY player not an AC MILAN PLAYER. It means that he will be playing with the rossoneri but representing the L.A. Galaxy? Why not wait until January where he can represent Milan?
Bruce Arena must be fuming!
Is not that Beckam has made a great contribution in Galaxy either. So much was expected by Beckam but he has done more in the marketing than in the field.
Juventus - Pavel Nedved
Headline says, "Juventus-Nedved, renewal. Pavel Nedved not thinking on retiring anymore but on playing for one more season. Juventus is ready to extend his contract."
Anna Italia Opinion - Just like living legend AC Milan Captain Paolo Maldini who at 40 years continue playing, Nedved who was about to retire wants to keep playing. Well, this is a good news because you might argue that Nedved is already over 35 years old and might be history. Yet, seeing him play in the last matches far from retiring he seems to have rejuvenated and playing well.
In the match against Bologna, Nedved scored the two goals and played maybe his best match this season. Point is that Nedved seems motivated now that he is playing in the Serie A after being in the Serie B for the Calciopoli scandal.
Nedved is enchanting to be playing also in the Champions League and does not want to give up this special moment. I agree that Nedved should continue one more season based on his performance and after being so loyal with Juventus, the best thing they can do is to extend his contract for another season. Go Nedved!!!

FC INTER: Mourinho or Mancini?
The newspaper Il Corriere dello Sport is making a survey on who is better for Inter: Jose Mourinho or Roberto Mancini?
It seems the whole fever of "Mourinhomania" is slowly disappearing and turning in "desperation" among many Inter fans. Inter is now in the 4th position with 18 points, 2 points behind the leaders Udinese and Napoli and 1 point behind their archirival AC Milan with 19 points.
Reality is that at this stage Inter is with 3 points less than last season. Most interesting is that the much announced "NEW INTER OF MOURINHO" has not been seen yet. I will say that compared to Mancini, there is not much change with Inter's current performance in the local league. I might say the difference is "maybe" in the Champions League. Inter right now is leading their group. Yet, with Mancini they also passed to the next round, so up to here many Inter fans questions on how effective was the change of coach.
Mourinho has given proof of being a tough leader and attracting media attention at times even more than the team. This bothers some Inter fans who thinks that much attention is given to the coach than to the team. Besides, the good relation with some players apparently is damage. Well, this is no surprise because Mancini also faced problems in the dressing room for indiscipline, specifically with forward Adriano. Mourinho now is experiencing a similar situation when everything seemed that Adriano finally was rehabilitating and committed to follow a better lifestlye and train properly. The whole thing seems to collapse when on Monday Adriano arrived late to the trainings for being "disco night" until 4:30 a.m.
Just to calm the waters, Inter President Massimo Moratti is reassuring sponsors that Mourinho knows what he is doing. Guys, remember that Mourinho was already contested by Inter fans with whistles at the Giuseppe Meazza. So, Moratti is doing his best public relations work to calm the tempest among disappointed fans and members.
Simply put, guys, have you say. Do you think there is a difference with Mourinho and Mancini? Who is better to coach Inter?
AS ROMA - SAMPDORIA
The Serie A Week 9 match AS Roma - Sampdoria suspended by Referee Tagliavento on Wednesday, October 29 will be played on January 14, 2009. The match was suspended for rain.
In a sense it helped both teams. Roma who were coming to the match with a long list of injured players had this extra day to recover physically and mentally. Bad thing is that now Roma and Sampdoria will be more worried about this pending match when both face the relegation zone with 7 points each, 13 points behind the leaders Udinese and Napoli.
Lazio Transfer Market
The article is about Lazio President Claudio Lotito wanting to protect his precious investment: Argentinian forward Mauro Zarate. Just few months before the next transfer window and avoiding all possible temptations that might lure his player, Lazio is thinking to extend Zarate contract for 5 years.
The dream of Lazio fans is to keep Zarate. Lotito is in negotiation with Zarate's manager who happens to be his brother Sergio. Lotito and Sergio met in Villa San Sebastiano, the headquarters of Lotito to analyze the conditions for the extension of the contract until 2013.
Bayern Munich - Schweisteinger
The shopping around is going on and the latest transfer market rumor is that Juventus-Milan-Inte all want to sign Bayern Munich Schweistenger! This news has only alerted Bayern who relies on Schweisteinger as one of their best players.
Question is if Schweisteinger has the option to leave Bayern Munich where will he go, Milan, Juve, or Inter? What do you think?
