What a match guys! Challenge was for Catania to win the match and keep the race for the scudetto alive being in the third position with 14 points along with Udinese and Napoli with 14 points too and only 2 points away from Inter the sole leader with 16 points. Yet, Catania failed to beat a combatant Siena dominating the match with 65% ball possession as opposed to 35% from Catania.
I watched the match on RAI ITALIA and let me tell you the first half was a constant bombarding from AC Siena forward Massimo Maccarone. Practically, it was a duel between Maccarone and Catania goalkeeper Bizzari saving every attempt to score from Maccarone. Just amazing.

In the 5th minute, firs t clear signal from Maccarone determination to score. Houssine Kharja provides the assist and Maccarone with a left footed shot from the center of the box starts knocking at the door, though it is blocked.
Now, wait, because immediately, in the 6th minute, Maccarone again with a right footed shot from the left side of the box shoots to the bottom left corner while Catania goalkeeper Albano Bizarri saves!
In the 10th minute, Simone Vergassola gives an assist to Maccarone and guys I had to set aside my orange juice because it was a joy to see the grinta from Maccarone. Though, Maccarone with a right footed shot from the center of the box shoots this time to the top right corner and guess what? what! Well, Catania goalkeeper Albano Bizarri again saves!!!!! I am telling you it was a one-on-one duel between these two and I was loving every minute of it.
In the 15th minute, it was Catania turn to attempt to score with Pablo Alvarez who shoots from the right to the bottom right corner and AC Siena goalkeeper Gianluca Curci saves.
In the 32nd minute, hello, hello.... a deja vu. Abdel Ghezzal provides a headed assist to Maccarone who shoots from outside the box to the bottom right corner and guess what? what! Again, Catania goalkeeper Albano Bizarri saves!!!!
Well, first half ended 0-0 with Siena dominating the match.

Battling for the ball between Kharja and Martinez
In the 52nd minute, AC Siena coach substitutes Massimo Maccarone and gives chance to forward Emanuele Calaio.
Maccarone left the field among applauses. Hey, too bad he could not score because he was a constant danger.
Finally, in the 75th minute, bam, bam, bam, a goal from AC Siena forward Emanuele Calaio with a header ball from the center of the box to the bottom right corner blasting Catania goalkeeper Albano Bizarri. You bet it was a total explosion of joy at the Artemio Franchi with fans never stopping to cheer for the team. Joy also for Cristiano Del Grosso who provided the assist.
AC Siena 1 - 0 Catania
Too bad for Siena that the party lasted only 4 minutes! Unbelievable, a bad foul from AC Siena goalkeeper Gianluca Curci on Catania forward Michele Paolucci. Referee Nicola Stefanini grants a penalty to Catania and gives a yellow card to Curci.
In the 79th minute, taking the penalty spot is Giuseppe Mascara converting the penalty with a right footed shot directly to the bottom left corner blasting Siena goalkeeper Gianluca Curci.
AC Siena 1 - 1 Catania
This draw is more like a "defeat" for Catania because far from remaining in the top 3 positions, they now risk going down. A victory would have been a blessing, though, better gaining one point than losing the entire 3 points. What do you think?
