Covering the UEFA Cup from an Italian Perspective
Time for our updates on the 2008 - 2009 UEFA CUP. Italian Soccer Serie A supports all three Italian clubs competing for the UEFA Cup: AC Milan, Sampdoria, and Udinese.
The draw was today, Tuesday, October 7 in Nyon. I am including the complete Group Stage so you can do your own analysis on how our Italian clubs will do.
There are now only 40 clubs competing. Teams divided in 8 groups with 5 teams in each group. Only 3 teams will pass to the Round of 32 in February along with the finishing third in their UEFA Champions League sections.
Matches and Fixtures - Rules for Round of 32 Draw
Matches begin on October 23 and continue on November 6 and 27th, then on December 3-4 and December 17-28. In the Round of 32 draw on December 19, the teams finish first and third will be paired, with the runners-up meeting the sides currently competing in the UEFA Champions League. UEFA is rewriting another chapter because this is the last year that the tournament will be in its current format. The competition will be relaunched as the UEFA Europa League.

AC MILAN - GROUP E
The big challenge here is for AC Milan, 2007 FIFA World Club, to win for the first time the UEFA Cup. Milan is in Group E competing against SC Heerenveen, SC Braga, Portsmouth FC and VfL Wolfsburg.
Guys, Milan will find our 2 ex Palermo players playing for Wolfsburg Andrea Barzagli and Zaccardo!
SAMPDORIA - GROUP C
Sampdoria is in Goup C competing with Sevilla, Stuttgart, and Partizan.
UDINESE - GROUP D
Udinese is in Group D competing with Tottenham Hotspur FC, Spartak Moskva, and Dinamo Zagreb.
