Mourning for Roma President Sensi, AC Milan won Berlusconi Trophy, Juventus Defender Chiellini Injured, Ronaldinho - Messi Against Each other in Semifinal Argentina - Brazil, Front Page Il Corriere dello Sport, Monday, August 18, 2008

By Anna Italia

Good morning, buon giorno!

How are you? Let me tell you guys I AM SO HAPPY TODAY to the point of crying of happiness not only because AC Milan won the Luigi Berlusconi Trophy but also because my fitness role model Spaniard Tennis Player Rafael Nadal won the Gold Medal in the Olympics and is as of  today the #1 Tennis Player.

You bet I am ready to start our "Coffee Mornings Reading"  with my cappuccino, a strawberry-banana yogurt, and a big photo of Nadal with his gold medal in front of me.

How about you? Are you ready with your coffee, cappuccino, espresso, tea, juice, water, a snack? I know, I got your emails asking about the newspapers on weekends and I apologized for not including it. Saturday, after the Italian National Olympic team lost, I was so devastated that could not write a clear review.

I really appreciate your emails and your kind words. They encourage me to continue working in this blog...

Ok, so  let's start with Italy's sports newspaper Il Corriere dello SportHere is the front page from this morning  Monday, August 18, 2008.

AS ROMA - sad... news....

Headline says, "Latest news, Rome is mourning.  Franco Sensi is death.

Anna Italia Opinion - I mentioned in a a separate post  that this news saddened me when I read it the first time.

The newspaper dedicates a big section of the passing of Franco Sensi and I totally agree to give this great man the honors and recognition for what he did for AS Roma and for Italian football.

Sensi passed away yesterday night Sunday, August 17 at 11:35 p.m. after undergoing intensive theraphy at the hospital "Ospedale Gemelli"
 for respiratory problems.

Surviving his death are his wife Maria and daughter Rosella, Cristina and Silvia.

Imaging Franco Sensi was the President of the AS Roma Club for 15 years, the longest administration in the history of the club.

Public Tribute for all family, fans, and friends will be on Tuesday at the Campidoglio in Rome.  Funeral schedules on Wednesday, August 20 in the Church of San Lorenzo.

It is so nice to see how all clubs and players unite to send their condolences to the Sensi family among them:

AS Roma Rodrigo Taddei who according to the article said that "Roma lost a great man.  It is a sad day for all of us. He had a great relation with the squad."

The Mayor of Roma Gianni Alemanno declares that "Sensi not only fight to obtain great results for Roma, but also for the sport no to lose their values against the big finanancial interests."

I like the idea of the Mayor to even help the Sensi family build the stadium and name it "Franco Sensi."

Italian Head Coach Marcello Lippi also sends his condolescences and giving permission to the 4 Roman playeres called up for the friendly match Italy - Austria to join the Sensi at the Tribute in Campidoglio.

Even antagonists rivals like Lazio and President Claudio Lotito unite to honor the memory of Sensi.

Among the clubs expressing  their condolesences as reported by the article are FC Juventus, FC Inter, AC Milan, Fiorentina, Palermo, AC Sinea, Reggina among other personalities.

AC MILAN    4   -  1   FC  JUVENTUS

Anna Italia Opinion - This is a victory worth to be called "the introduction of Milan in Serie A."  Why?  Milan did not have their best players but they came to this match with the morale to win, the winning mentality to give fans a moment of joy after giving fans  3 straight defeats.

Winning against FC Juventus was important for the rossoneri, especially playing at home in San Siro and for the Berlusconi Trophy.

Juventus came to this match without Saint Goalkeeper Gigi Buffon.  Second goalkeeper Chimenti and Third goalkeeper Manninger got the chance to play one half each.  Del Piero-Amarui could not blast the net of the Rossoneri.

The bad news was the serious injury of Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini who left the field on a stretcher and now will miss the friendly match Italy - Austria.  In his place Italian Head Coach Marcello Lippi has called his teammate defender Nicola Legrottaglie.

Just like Juventus website says, what it counts right now are the 4 goals they made to win the first leg of the preliminary of the Champions League against Artmedia, now they are preparing for the second round to pass this round.

2008 Semifinal Men Football Olympic Tournament

Anna Italia Opinion  - Totally agree with the article, tomorrow is the confrontation between the ex teammates in Barcelona and now opponents.   Ronaldinho now as a Milan player and playing for Brazil while Barcelona forward Messi playing for Argentina.

This guys is an ANTICIPATED FINAL instead of a semifinal.  We certainly will see a big clash because Brazil has defeated Argentina in their last three matches. But tomorrow what it counts is to see which show rules:

The Ronaldinho show or The Messi Show.

I am for  both having a great show and then the best teams as a whole to win.   One Serie A player is playing for Argentina Napoli forward Ezequiel Lavezzi and 2 AC Milan forwards Alexandre Pato and Ronaldinho playing for Brazil.

I can't wait for this match to start and cheering for both.

This is sad, so the 4 gladiators will skip training , that's good they cannot concentrate anyway and is a human sentiment.

Sensi deserved this honor at the Campidoglio and man i agree with the mayor that building the stadio for Roma should be named after Franco Sensi, the guy gave 15 years figting for Roma and like the note says he wanted to keep the clean spirit of sport not to be influenced with the interests of commercialization. Man, wonder how Totti must feel.

I agree too Pietro, Roma has been growing thanks to Sensi's effort and this is why I did not agree that Roma be sold to outside control because Sensi had keept it a family club fighting for the city of Roma, and no money can buy this.

I agree too and also I am a strong supporter for the Sensi to keep the club or sell it to another Italian family that loves Italian football and the city. Just like Berlusconi and Moratti fighting for their clubs.

Milan: man i agree Anna that our rossoneri came to this match with the winning mentality. Almost nobody expected that Milan could beat Juventus.
True Saintgoalkeeper Buffon was not here but man Del Piero, Nedved, Chiellini the rest were there and even Amauri who many gives him much publicity, but for me today he had his chance and did not show me great stuff Milan won and Abbiati was great then Dida conceding a goal, but Milan worn with merits. What's your take?
