Covering the 2008 Summer Olympics Game in Beijing  from an Italian Perspective


Congrats to our Napoli Serie A striker Ezequiel "el pocho" Lavezzi for the victory of Argenina over the Ivory Coast on their debut on Thursday, August 7, 2008 in the Men Football from Group C.  Lavezzi is the only player from the Serie A in the Argentinian National Olympic team.

Although the match was agonizing and Argentina struggled, Barcelona striker Lionel Messi opened the score in the 43rd minute.

Men Football Olympic Group A

Sekou Cisse equalized the score with a header goal in the 53rd minute.  From here it was an agony for the Argentinians struggling to score and nothing.  Lavezzi missed many opportunities too.

Lavezzi was substituted in the 63rd minute by Angel Di Maria. Well done Lavezzi and Forza Napoli.

Second goal was from Lautaro Acosta in the 85th minute shooting from the rebound from Messi's shot when Ivory Coast goalkeeper blocked it, though, Acosta was there, saw the ball, and voila he shoots  An important victory to keep the 3 points and hope to pass the preliminary round.

The top two teams in each of the four groups advance to the quarter-finals.

In Group A:  Argentina is on top with 3 points while Australia and Serbia who finished with a 1-1 draw have 1 point each.
