Covering the 2008 Summer Olympics Game in Beijing  from an Italian Perspective

The friendly match scheduled today between the Italian National Olympic Team and the Chinese team Guoan has been canceled for security reasons, as announced by the Italian Football Federation (FIGC).

Well, this is double bad news because Coach Pierluigi Casiraghi really needs to see whether the team is  improving or not in a regular match not only in the practice.

Instead Casiraghi had to limit himself to play a match between his group divided in two.   I am not liking this at all. Come on, the  2008 Summer Olympics Games in Beijing  are just around the corner.  Only one more week to the kick off on August 8,  to August 24, 2008 in China.

The last match of the Italian National Olympic team was not convincing at all apart from Goalkeeper Viviano, Sebastian Giovinco, Giuseppe Rossi,  and Robert Acquafresca.

The Azzurrini need to test themselves with thse friendly matches. For example, Ignazio Abate, he was fast and brought a new rhythm during the Italy-Romania match, but also made simple mistakes that could have resulted with goals.

So, this cancelation is not helping our Azzurrini.  Just hope Casiraghi somehow manage to do a practice match at least with a local team during this week.

Will Casiraghi be able to test the progress of the Azzurrini before the Olympics?

Nigel, the makes two of us,Also Lanzafame is another key player that was left behind and Santacroce's suspension isn't helping our defense either.Add on the that the fact that Rocchi is the only over age player selected.I'm not optimistic about this tournament,we would be lucky to get the bronze medal.

Man, that makes 3 of us because i also don't get why Casiraghi did not call Osvaldo when the man scored goals and is fit. Maybe having too many strikers? At least he called Acquafresca and Giovinco the Little Del Piero.
