What was Vieri expecting, a royal welcome with an extended red carpet and thousands of photographers? Instead hundreds of upset fans were very vocal and even tried to attack the car of Vieri during his presentation at the Centro Sportivo Bortolotti di Zingonia.
Hello, wake up and smell the coffee. Atalanta fans were not joking when they almost covered the entire city with ANTI VIERI Posters and telling the Club that they did not approve the return of Vieri for considering him "Ungrateful."
Bergamo, July 9, 2008 - Here are Atalanta fans giving an UNFORGETTABLE welcome to Vieri who is inside this car.
In the press conference, Vieri said that he is feeling super well, better than 5 or 6 years ago. "I returned to help Atalanta achieve salvation."
Hey, the season has not started and already talking about salvation? I think Vieri is giving many wrong declarations which instead of helping him gain the trust of the fans it gets them mad. I am sure Atalanta can manage salvation without Vieri. Let's not forget Atalanta Captain Cristiano Doni who is a true symbol for Atalanta fans.
Outside the press conference fans were holding banners with "not friendly messages." One of the banners read "One who spit where he eats cannot be a Champion. Vieri this jersey should be an honor, respect"
Amazingly, Vieri said:
"I wasn't expecting this type of reaction from the fans, I think is exaggerated. Everything because I celebrated the goal made against Atalanta but I did not even realize who was the opponent. I just wanted to celebrate the goal because I had trained for 3 months without playing and that goal was my first one with Fiorentina." Vieri is talking about the match when Fiorentina played against Atalanta.
Come on, Vieri would have done better by keeping silent or not even signing for Atalanta. Yet, he is surprised on why fans are against him. Hey, Vieri... common sense, don't you think?
Anyway, Vieri said that he hope to gain back the support from teh fans hopefully with goals.
I definitely think Vieri used poor judgment when deciding to return to Atalanta for the second time after he betrayed their trust by moving to Fiorentina.
Sure, Atalanta fans have one idea clear which is that Vieri could not find another club and picked Atalanta to recover again for later sign for a bigger club. That's the entire argument. Can this happen? Yes, you bet!
Obviously, VIERI is no longer the great bomber. He is getting old and not scoring often plus taking forever to heal from injuries. For every body's sake, let's hope for Vieri to start scoring since the first matches and avoid injuries.

I feel bad for Vieri because his best years were with Inter and now he is just the shadow of the great Inter bomber. I think fans have the right to protest against Vieri for all the reasons you explained, still makes me feel sad as an Inter fan.

Man, i was going to make a joke for you interisti but i see the news of has been Inter bomber affected you. So, ok, i am waving the white flag as sign of our peace treaty. Though, i think he took the wrong decision to sign for Atalanta again because if he improves he won't stay with Atalanta and here is where i understand the indignation of Atalanta fans. What's your take?

i have no idea on this attack to Vieri, but i feel sorry for him since i like him as for his effort for Italian national team at the World Cup 2002 in Korea.

Well, Christian "Bobo the Donkey" Vieri as I affectionally call him, has been unjustly afronted here. I just don't understand the need to intimidate anyone, regardless of how many headers someone misses at a Euro...this is one of the evils of calcio, it is all to often fans go to far, that picture of the fans surrounding his car is awful...
