2008 Summer Olympics Games: Getting to Know the Azzurrini Midfielder Luca Cigarini
Well, the Olympics are right around the corner and soon Mark will be ordering the Pizza, Pietro will be singing the popo popo, Anna will be adding the flags, and the rest of us will cheer on the Azzurrini. I thought that this would be a good time to get to know some of the non-star Azzurrini players who I think will be the difference Makers.
We always hear about Giovinco, Rossi, and Montolivo, but hardly ever about the likes of Ignazio Abate, Domenico Criscito, and Luca Cigarini.
My pick for the day is Luca Cigarini.

Cigarini is a 22 year old midfielder currently playing for Parma.
Cigarini has previously played for Italy U-17 and Italy U-19 teams. He has so much potential and is almost a guarantee future Azzurri maestro.
What I like the most about Cigarini is his totality in the midfield.

Cigarini is currently sought after by big clubs such as Villareal,Atletico Madrid, Chelsea, and Juventus. However, according to recent reports, he is likely to leave Parma and join former teammate Rossi at Villareal.
In any case, I wish Cigarini all the best in the Olympic Games and hope to see him as a star with the senior squad soon.
Without further ado, watch the video,
one of the only good compilations I found for the talented Azzurrini Cigarini midfielder.
It is not his best plays, but the downside to not being so famous is having not
so good videos on you tube.
After you watch the video, can you guys tell me who he reminds you of?

Congrats "contributor writer Nina", wow, man, so happy for you and thanks for sharing about Cigarini. I watched the video, though not that clear when he does those long passes, especially almost from half the field reminds me Pirlo. What's your take?

Pietro, thank you though I don't consider myself contributing much, I’m just sharing some of my favorite topics to rant about lol.
Cigarini does resemble our Andrea, doesn’t he? Pietro, we are thinking alike today lol. His long passes are very accurate, and his vision is beyond belief. He is also very aggressive defensively, sort of Rino and Pirlo in one. I hope he gets to move to a bigger club as the papers mentioned.I would hate to say him play in serie B next season.

Congrats Nina, Cigarini looks very young. Nina I watched the video and it resembles a combination of Pirlo - Del Pierto. That was my impression. What do you think?

Man i am ready to cheer for our Azzurrini. Kaka and Gerrard, might be.
I had the feeling also of pirlo-del Piero.
Cigarini good but not yet like Kaka's passes.

Milan99 I also think Cigarini has potential but still a long way to be A KAKA.
Though, I think Cigarini has more the technique from Pirlo. Don't you think?

I agree with you all, he does have to improve a bit, but all he needs is big team football. Playing in serie B will be a waste. He reminds me of Pirlo a lot. If I was inter this would be my guy. Inter keep claiming that there isn't a creative midfielder who is Italian with the qualities that they are looking for, how about Cigarini? He might be young and a bit inexperienced, but his price is much less than Lampard. If the attitude of top clubs in Italy towards the young Italian players doesn’t change, the Azzurri will suffer big time

Sure Anna he have the potential! Sure Pirlo but the MOST THING I LOVE IN PIRLO IS HIS FREE KICKS, I LIKE KAKA'S PASSES MORE THEN PIRLO'S, maybe that is just me, I LOVE GERRARD'S TACKLING STYLE AND I THINK CIGARINI POTENTIAL CAN MAKE HIM IN THE FUTURE A COMBINATION OF KAKA AND GERRARD!!!!
So I didn't think of Pirlo right away because I see Pirlo more at free kicks that was it!

Milan99 we are rocking! I agree with your reasoning, man, Kaka's passes are the best and the killer pass he shows in the training ground is perfect. Did you see that post Anna added about a month ago?

See the thing is, all these players you guys mentioned are great, but if you think back 8 or 10 years, we didn't know Kaka or Gerrard, but today because of practice and the chances given to them my big teams like Milan and Liverpool, we see them as the best in the world, and that is all Luca Cigarini needs. Give him a year or two in a big club with enough playing time, and we will be looking at an excellent midfielder for the Azzurri. I was green with envy, when I saw all these 21 or 22 year old Spanish players who were already super stars, while we in Italy are pushing our youngsters to serie B or C sides. By the time they make it to the big stage, they are over 26 or 27 and can only participate in one world cup at most. That is sad.
