Congratulations to Italy and Juventus Goalkeeper Gigi Buffon for Being Among the UEFA EURO 2008 Team of the Tournament

By Anna Italia

Certainly, this EURO 2008 famous "Europei," represents one of the worst chapters of Italian Football.  What was supposed to be "Italy's EURO," turned out to be a nightmare not only for the team but for the players too.

We, Italian football fans are used to see our players among the best all the time.  This year, only Juventus Saint goalkeeper Gigi Buffon made it to the UEFA EURO 2008 Team of the Tournament Final-23 list.

Personally, I take great pride to congratulate Buffon on behalf of Italian Soccer Serie A  for this distinction.  I also congratulate each of the 23 players selected because their performance in this tournament have been rewarded.

While I feel happy for the 23 selected players, I also feel super sad for not seeing our Italian footballers among the list.  Though, I recognize that their performance were below standards.

What do you think of the absence from our Italian players among the Final 23-list?

I'm so happy that Saint Goalkeeper Gigi Buffon made it to the list. Despite Italy's poor performance, the fact that our Gigi made the list shows he is the best goalkeeper in the world.Gigi kept us in the tournament when he made that save against Mutu.
I'm saddened by the fact that no another Italian player made the list, but not surprised considering our performance. Giorgio Chiellini is the only player other I feel deserved that honor. I'm still proud our Azzurri who have won us 4 world cups, and given us so much joy over the years, so Forza Azzurri.

Congrats to Buffon for being Italy's savior. Chiellini played his best match against Spain. Whe I was reading the article, I thought it is true, we are used to our players being the best and it is sad not seeing Pirlo, Gattuso, Del Piero and Luca Toni in this list. Reason is obvious they did not do well in this Euro which became a nightmare for us fans.

Man, i thought i was the only one asking why Ballack made it to the top when he did not have a good tournament. That Senturk did good, but not here in the list. Good to see Podolski in the list. But man where are our guys?

Players of Italy really didn't perform better than those in this UEFA list. Let's be honest. "Parliamoci chiaro"

Toni next to Torres? I don't think it's the player's fault only. But Donadoni who didn't lineup the ideal team for each opponent.
