Good morning, buon giorno, guten morgen, buenos dias!  This is it!

The UEFA EURO 2008 arrives to the finish line and the reality is that ITALY is not running to reach the final destination. ... the only Italian in this final is Referee Roberto Rosetti.

Italian Soccer Serie A   Congratulates SPAIN FOR WINNING THE UEFA EURO 2008 AFTER 44 YEARS!!!!
EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP "SPAIN IS THE WINNER"

                             Germany 0 - 1 Spain
                                                                    33' Fernado Torres

The two contenders made merits to arrive to this final:  Germany and Spain
In good sportsmanship, may the best win.

Any mistake could result in a defeat.  So, both teams must go to the field highly concentrated and execute the strategies prepared by their respective coaches to win the much awaited UEFA EURO 2008 Final Tournament in Austria and Switzerland.

What a moment for Spain and Germany!

I watched the Spain channel TVE this morning to check the news "Telediario" and from the 45 minutes, more than half hour was dedicated to the final of the EURO 2008. Of course, it is a historical moment for Spain finally arriving to the final and the chance to win. 44 years waiting to win and Spain Coach Luis Aragones rewrote history for Spain.

Good news for Germany is that Captain Michael Ballack was listed in the starting lineup after speculation he might miss the match for injury.

Here is Ballack and Referee Roberto Rosetti.

Imagine, yesterday, Spanish Tennis Player Rafael Nadal played against German Kiefer and won the match! Nadal watched the match with his buddies, including Feliciano Lopez.  Double victory for Spain!

Unbelievable, in the 22nd minute, Spain forward Fernando Torres had a great chance to open the score when he heads the ball and hit the post!

Though the first 15 minutes Germany dominated, it was Spain opening the score.  In the 33rd minute, Fernando Torres blasts the net of Germany goalkeepre Lehman. A big mistake by Lehman leaving the net alone! Perfect move for el Nino Torres.
Germany 0 - 1 Spain

Who would have said that the goals from David Villa were forgotten for 1 minute when El Niño Torres scored this important goal?  Sure, after celebrating with Torres,  history got the unexpected hero. EL NINO TORRES for delivering the winning goal to Spain breaking 44 years of frustration.  Today, Spain rules Europe!  Plus, David Villas is the top scorer of the EURO 2008.  Spain got the whole enchilada!  Congrats.

A scary moment for Germany goalkeeper Lehman when Sergio almost scored the second goal!!!!

Imagine the nervousness from Spain Head Coach Luis Aragones!  Great way  to say good bye with his name written in PURE GOLD in all books from Spain soccer history!   It was Aragones, el sabio, to rewrote history and putting Spain back in the main scenario as the 2008 UEFA EURO 2008 Champions!!!!

Here is Aragones during the match giving instruction to his boys!  Well done Aragones!  Photo: afp

AMAZING GAME! Torres missed a lot but thanks for a nice goal, and thanks Lam for the help! the Germans were great in the first 20 minutes, but the Spanish made a GREAT comeback! Ballack was great when he got hurt but still wanted to be there with the team! but the ref made two mistakes one when he did not catch a hand ball against the Spanish and when he gave casillas a yellow card.

Milan99, hush about the handball against Spain lol.Just kidding, I'm beginning to think that Rosetti has something against calling a penalty,he overlooked 2 handballs for the first game of the tournament too(Czech against the Swiss),and then there was that clear tackle by D.Drogba against a Liverpool player in the box and right in front of him in the semifinal of the CL Liverpool vs Chelsea.
As for Iker's yellow card,we don't know what he said to the ref, maybe he said something Rosetti didn't like,or it was the fact that he approached the ref, some of them don't like that.Oh well, the game is back on,later.

I totally understand the Italian sorrow. My roots are Spanish but I also cheer for the Azzuri. So much so that I was torn between Spain and Italy. I was always going to cheer on the winner of that game. Now that Spain has beaten not only the Germans, but 44 years of bad history, WOOOOOOO! Especially as the game went on. Ballack has proven himself to be a thug. And. I'm sorry Azzuri fans but I have to mention that it seems that Rosseti never forgave the Spanish for the result against Italy either. It seemed to me that the Spanish were up against 12. Especially in thr first half where he indulged Ballack in letting him be as big a thug as he pleased. No matter who you cheered for however. Everyone has to acknowledge that tonight, the best side one. The Germans were second best in every sector of the park.

Rafael, Rosetti is a professional and will not hold a grudge against the Spanish for winning on penalty kicks, I thought he gave the Spanish a brake when he overlooked a handball in the box that should have been a penalty. He is only human and can make mistakes, but I didn't sense that he favored either side.He had couple of minor controversial calls against both teams.

Hi Nina. I will agree that Rosetti blew calls on both ends. I was in the heat of the moment and did not even sit down the entire game. And, Ballack was indeed shown a yellow. I've calmed down somewhat. It's just that I went thru the roof when Ballack stepped either Iniesta's or Xavi's foot(I can't remember which one) long after the ball was somewhere else. He should have gotten a yellow right then. My accusations of Rosetti were emotional. I'm new to this site and this blog. So let me give a little background of myself. I am Puerto Rican. My roots are Spanish. That said. AC Milan is my favorite team in the whole world. I follow the Serie A much closer than anything. I love the Azzuri and always cheer for them.I know more about Azzuri players than any other country. As far as Rosetti goes. All is forgiven. As he is after all human..... Also, my Rossoneri heart tells me that the verdict on Donadoni was cruel. The Azzuri were the only team that the Spanish could not score a goal against. And that was with the very backbone of the team either hurt or suspended. Though the exit was early, it took the eventual champs to just barely get past them. And I emphisize barely. Donadoni and the Azzuri deserve some credit I think. I'll admit, I am an optimist and tend to look at things with a glass half full sort of way. But for the Azzuri, a quarter final exit is just not acceptible. And rightly so. Italy are still the world champions despite the results of this tournament. For all Italians reading this, don't forget that. You should still hold your heads high. RAFAEL

Ballack did commit several ugly fouls, and should been sent off, but sometimes refs make the wrong calls, or overlook certain actions.

Just kidding, we all get along fine and respect each other despite rooting for different teams.I also follow La liga, and Real Madrid is my favorite team. Was rooting for Spain because of Iker Casillas and S.Ramos.

As a Milan fan, and someone who loved the ex Milan winger, I understand your sympathy for Donadoni, but I was never sold on his credentials. Coaching Livorno does not prepare you to be in charge of the world champs. What did you think about his formation in the first game against Holland? Any Idea why it took him forever to make subs?

Well Nina. I must admit. The system and lineup were suspect to say the least. If you were going with that formation, De Rossi probably should have played instead of Ambro. But the vogue system right now is a 4-5-1 of some sort. And for good reason. You can play this system with a defensive or offensive mentality. Italy won the last World Cup playing this way. It's very balanced and versitile. The way Italy started with 2 forwards and a trequartista. You need a Kaka, or a Seedorf, or a Zidane. I might be missing something but the only Italians who can fit this role right now are Totti, or Del Piero. Pirlo is more effective from further back in the midfield. Aquilani isn't there yet. I don't remember who Donadoni started in that role. But maybe with Del Piero the system may have worked better. Sometimes being a great coach means knowing when not to change and "fix" things. I wanted to see Donadoni Succeed.... Also, I love the fact that from what I've seen, Everyone on this site gives good intelligent and respectfull commentary. I've seen other sites where everyone just insults eachother. What fun is that? Thank you for welcoming me.

Rafael,I agree with everything you said.We have all been complaining about Don's 4-3-3 formation which didn’t work at all with his line up.5 year old would know that it is criminal to have Grosso and Chiellini on the bench while playing old Panucci as a right back instead of the centre and having slow as a turtle Materazzi in the center with Barzagli. Did he not watch inter games all season??He insisted on playing Zambrotta out of position on the left when his best at right, and kept Del Piero, and DDR on the bench. What infuriated me even more was how long it took him to make the substitutions. He never substituted Luca Toni, and the only plan he seemed to have was sending long balls to Toni via Pirlo who was torn between helping the defense and linking up the play upfront. I’m more than thrilled to see him go.

I agree that Rosetti was not exceptional and at one point he lost control of the game with Ballack going to the other referee on the sideline, Germany #7 just grabbing his hair in surprise.

What about that yellow card to Casillas just for protest and none for the Spanish player who actually committed the foul. Would Massimo Busacca been better?

But just like I told Emilio, in this specific case I just couldn't be happy seeing LA ROJA celebrating while my heart wanted to see the Azzurri celebrating. I did recognize and acknowledge that Spain deserved the victory because they played better and if ITALY lost was becase of their own mistakes like Nina mentioned.
